Netflix The Witcher Discussion

Just finished Episode 3. I'm loving it so far. Episode 3 is so intense!!

I haven't seen the remaining episodes yet, but if there's one episode that will define Season 1, Episode 3 is it!!

I like the acting and the atmosphere better than Disney's Mandalorian. The fight scenes are also better (fight scene in Episode 1, wow!)

I won't binge, I'm gonna savour it throughout Christmas/NY break...........who the fuck am I kidding I prolly gonna finish them all by Sunday

I'm about to try the first episode. I knew it was coming but didn't know it would be so soon. Glad to see a positive review here!

I finished the season.

As someone who has not played the games or read the books, I enjoyed it.

It is a bit of a mess I must admit.

I think the worst special effect monster Is in the first episode, opening scene is bad. It is a terrible start for the whole show. It takes 6 episodes for it to shit.... There are worse monsters as far as effects around episode 6.

But I thought it was fun.

It is messy, and super silly. But there is something.... to it.

Henry perfectly fits as Geralt, his voice, his looks, everything. and I bet ladies don't mind him going shirtless showing his pecs and muscles
I read that his co-workers said that he slept in Geralt's uniform to stay in character. That's dedication

Will judge myself when I start watching

First episode was meh. But i've just watched 5 and i'm really liking it so far. Cavill is great as Geralt. So is the actress who plays Yennefer.

Stopped after 20 minutes. H.C seems okay as Geralt but I wasn't enjoying it. I may try again another evening but first impressions were not good.

I am picky with TV shows so I don't recommend looking to me personally for a gauge on whether you'd enjoy it or not.

So I watched 2 episodes.... at the moment I don't know what to say, The cast is ok I guess, Cavill tries really hard to be Geralt and it works, Ciri is ok, she is not as I figured from the books but I've been spoiled by the videogame.

Honestly I was hoping for something different and less Game of Thrones. The fight scenes are better than expected, they are really good so far.

The forced diversity is just BS and it makes all the lore become more "General Fantasy" than "Poland Fantasy". They could have the people from the south to make some new interesting black character instead of putting black ppl here and there (I mean there is a black elf.....).

For the rest is ok, I'm going to keep watching it.

(The Italian sub is sub par expecially Dendelion)

It definitely gets better from episode 4 on.

It reminds me of an R rated Xena/Hercules. That's not a bad thing.

Almost done with episode 6. Cavill does a believable Geralt and grows on you fast. His swordsmanship choreography work is well done.

Whaaaaa Xena/Hercules? I'm gonna fucking love it then.

Watching episode 1 now...

ummm he sounds like game Geralt a lot

like a lot!

Lol

edit: episode 2 ... loving this

he really sounds like fukkin geralt .

Finished episode 3. I'm loving it so far. But it's a bit confusing and hard to follow. The 3 main story archs occur decades apart from each other but the show doesn't tell you this. I'd expect new comers to be quite lost. Hopefully it gets easier to follow once all the main cast are together.

On eps 5. Story is pretty interesting and Herny freaking nails Geralt. I'm glad to see the personality of the 3rd game come through in his performance.

My main big issue it that there are 3 main stories going on all at different times and I didn't even freaking know this until someone on YouTube mentioned it. The show dose a poor job of conveying time and makes the story confusing for the half of the season until everything starts to mold together

Just finished the season. I thought was pretty well-executed, despite some cheesy/campiness here and there, like the "goat monster" and other lame antagonists sprinkled throughout the story. You'd think with such a big budget they'd be able to make scary looking monsters lol, almost seemed like parody comedy at some points.

But the human costume design choices were usually pretty good. The casting choices were great (especially Anya Chalotra's Yennefer, and obviously Henry Cavill ... what a hunk). The last couple episodes kind of drag a bit, but the ending is perfection. I really enjoyed it, despite it's many flaws, but I REALLY hope they don't cancel it. Looking forward to season 2! I hope the main focus will be on Geralt's back-story, and less on the annoying, singing bard sidekick.

Overall disappointing.
He´s most of the time in the background waiting for others to finish their speech. We don´t see a real Witcher, nor do we see how they get made. At times this looked like a fetch quest Tv Show and the main quest gets ignored for 5 to 6 episodes (young girl).

He takes a nap for 2 episodes? and is when the show goes downhill starting at epi 5 or 6 with the utter boring mage-war-fight-fog-fireballs-Zzzzz. Nothing ya want to rewatch a second time.

Season 2 better be all about the WITCHER and ... less about nobodies, no one cares, who show up for 1x episode.

6/10

I was going to give you the burning fire emoji but it was too far along the list to reach :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'll give the show another go soon. Will post back if I die trying...

Binge watched the whole season.

I didn't like the first episode. But it got far better after ep2 when they introduced Yennifer and some other good characters.

Yennifer is the star of this show. Not Geralt. He was good but not good enough to keep me watching or carry the show on his own. But the actresses playing Yen killed it.

The weakest main character is Ciri. Really need to be improved for the next season. Or swapped for another actress.

I don't mind any of the characters. I can't say I dislike anything really.

some of you disliked the man goat dialogue!? Was hilarious

Geralt: "Did your mom fuck a goat?"

:messenger_tears_of_joy:

I think I love this show.

That bard is Dandelion right? I didn't catch a name but it had to...

The butcher if Blaviken fight in episode 1 was awesome. Fucking incredible sword fight.

Oh Henry, you little scamp :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The show is pretty enjoyable. I have my qualms with it, most of it stemming from the usual books to tv/movie adaptation pitfalls. Some slight wokeness crept in but nothing too bad fortunately.
Henry Cavill is great as the witcher Geralt and Anya Chalotra has won me over playing Yennefer. She's also a total babe.

Agree, and now that they set things up and have feedback etc. it can only get better in upcoming season 2.

I just hope they don't get discouraged by some reeeing journalists and remove the nudity. I actually am surprised by how much there was considering I thought the showrunner was a total sjw.

Not having to incorporate three books (consisting of short stories and a main arc) into one season should definitely help. I expect it to be a lot more focused.

Dunno if she's a sjw, but if she is at least she's not a sex negative one that's for sure :messenger_winking:

Is she not a minor? If so that is kind of gross.

Jodie Foster in that gif? She was 17 at the time of the interview, and that was her facial expression when she was asked if there are any men in her life.

Don't project your own thoughts into a joking meme conversation. That is for you to deal with, not us.

I was talking about the ciri girl and cavill not Jodie Foster...

Not sure what you are getting your panties in a twist about?

I really liked it. Plenty of flaws I can nitpick but for a first season it did the job for me. Henry Cavill did great imo - I was really rooting for him going into this and I think he pretty much nailed it. Looking forward to Season 2.

Was never a fan of Cavill as superman but I really enjoyed him in this role. Pretty solid first season, hope there isn't too long of a wait for season 2.

Best job Cavill has ever done acting, as far as I'm concerned. Voice and delivery are almost always perfect.

Really well done minus providing viewers with a timeline. I would have preferred they started the show with Geralt's unintentional surprise claim.

Feel like everybody but yennefer and witcher is straight up garbage. Maybe siri does a solid job. Sadly her effects and story line so far are kinda iffy at best.

Overall I enjoyed it and i'm happy that season 2 has already been green lighted. Some of the Geralt scenes gave me flashbacks to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. As far as casting goes, I'm fine with most of the liberties they took except for Triss which I think was a huge miscast.

Welp. Just finished it. Last two episodes were okay even though they thoroughly changed the plot of the last two short stories. Really felt they should have gone the episodic route and let us follow Geralt's adventures rather than rushing us into the novel saga. Some thoughts:

- Not a fan of Geralt being present during the fall of Cintra. The writers completely missed the point in the books about Geralt refusing to take Ciri and fulfill the Law of Surprise. He didn't want to get involved in the war and it was only mere chance (or destiny) that he and Ciri found each other once more.

- Having them meet at the ending for the first time completely robbed us of one of the most heartwarming scenes in the book. Geralt first met Ciri in Brokilon forest and refused to take her then, which he feels guilty for because he thought she died at Cintra. So his surprise to find out she's alive on the farm was one of the few happy moments in his life. The show's version doesn't have this emotional weight and feels flat. It also makes Ciri's journey to Brokilon completely pointless.

- The battle of Sodden Hill was alright to see. Obviously the showrunners did what they can with the limited budget that they had. Still, nice to see a prominent background event in the books given some screentime here.

- Geralt meeting his mother. One of the few scenes that's actually loyal to the books. Well acted by Henry Cavill, especially when he recounts what he endured to become a Witcher.

So, overall I thought the show was alright. But it did suffer in terms of plot and characterization whenever the showrunners deviated from Andrzej Sapkowski's text and added stuff that they pulled out of their own ass. A lot of the scenes and memorable characters that made the stories special are missing here. Henry Cavill was great as Geralt but I think Anya Chalotra really stole the show as Yennefer.

Hopefully in season 2 they stay truer to the stories, but I'm not holding my breath. I give the series overall a 6/10.

Wached the first episode, that was pretty great. My only complain it's the Nilfgardian armors, they look like garbage.
Geralt is on point.

I really liked the show, the whole three different time line thing was confusing but I caught on eventually. Truth be told I wish there was more monster hunting. Everyone played their roles quite well, especially yenifer she was the stand out in my opinion cause I expected Henry to be a good geralt. I'd give this show an 8.5. Btw that sword wielding mage seems kinda op when you think about it.

Absolutely agree! Its just so strange looking given the context. I've only ever played the video games so I'm not sure how its described in the books but I think it would have made more sense in the world if they kept the original black plate mail.

should i watch this?

i never played witcher, although i own witcher 3. it looks good but im just wondering if i should play through the game first then come back and watch the series or if it doesnt matter.
