Is iOS really that much better or am I seeing things?

Here my out before you calling me a Apple fanboy and to clarify... I am boob in the tech department outside of some basics

Here the story
Me any my wife are currently using Huawei Mate 20 Lites and my mother in law a Redmi 8 Note 4/64 which I bought recently at Black Friday.

Sadly one of our phones dispplay broke so I took out my old ass iPhone 6 in case it will stop working

The specs alone are dinosaur with the 1 GB RAM.. And the batterly life is a train wreck..... On top on that the display has a green border... But that's off topic.

What I find stragen is... That iOS even with current apps and the absolute lack of RAM is working so damn smoothly and browsing is still fast... What suprises me more that games I play each day like Dokkan Battle or Treasure Cruise are working much much more smoothly on that dinosaur called iPhone 6 and that silly RAM.

How is that possible? is iOS even outside of specs so much better for certain apps or what is the magic? I even considered swithing back to that iPhone 6 if not for the battery life... Current apple products are simply too expensive for me
 
My 2014 Ipad Air 2 has worked like a charm up until recently. Haven't has problem playing any games, even though I'm not a big mobile gamer. This latest update does seem to have made browsing a bit more laggy though.
 
I'm not saying it's the OS (and OS's don't matter if you're just looking to make a call) however most phone lovers have embraced Apple's OS, it's brilliantly made and IMO Google's phone OS' STINK.
 
iOS is phenomenal. No matter how old your phone is it'll always be smooth. This is why I can't change from iPhone. All I need to do is update the phone every time a new iOS update gets released.

Apple aren't only doing great with the phone OS but their computers too. Although I bought a new Macbook Pro 15", my 6 years old 12" is still working smoothly without any fuckery
 
I had an Galaxy S9+ for the past two years, last week I Invested in the Iphone 11. This morning I woke up with Air-pods and an Apple Bumper sticker. I have no idea what happened.
 
Android is like the Wild West of OS. Between every manufacturers own layer of crap over top of the base Android Os and the crapp (see what I did there) store with garbage apps everywhere. I couldn't take it anymore after having droids from the start I had to make a change a few years back. Never been happier with the switch. It all is organized and works well.
 
IOS is more streamlined and will get more performance than Android out of similar specced hardware. But you bought budget phones that are in the same price range as what an iPhone 6 goes for if bought today, pushing to a screen that is almost double the resolution.

I used to HATE Apple with a passion. I thought it was overpriced garbage. Then I got one and saw that they're actually quite brilliant. Apple spends a lot of time carefully engineering the hardware (even if it's the same as a Samsung), then fine tunes the shit out of iOS so it works perfectly with it. I had an iPhone 4 until I got an iPhone 7+. Now I'm thinking about getting a iPhone 11 Max simply for development and because it looks so damn slick.
Also iMessage is amazing. Google Hangouts doesn't even come close. The fact that I can take and make phone calls from any Apple device to any person even if they don't have an Apple device is amazing. Same with text messages. I can send a text message to anyone from my laptop. It just uses my phone as a skipping stone (it does the actual transmission of the text messages). It's just really fucking convenient.
 
It's because they can optimize for the hardware for the processor they built and don't have the bloat of having to support so many different Android hardware pieces. Same reason you're seeing graphically amazing games being pumped out on current gen consoles.

Yeah, I also saw the light 5 years ago OP.
I hated Apple, their prices and sheep fan base, but here I am with a laptop that runs as good as new after 3 years, a phone that feels top of the line after 2 years, and an tablet that's the best device I never knew I needed in my life.
 
Maybe it's because they got sued for purposely making their phones run worse every time they updated the firmware (to tempt idiots into buying newer ones earlier).

One thing I really miss from my iPhone is Siri. I could just bark across the room to set a timer and she'd fucking do it. And now I have a S10+, which is an awesome phone, but what the fuck is Bixby? How could it be this bad? Your phone has to be unlocked before it'll do any commands or some shit. Just awful.
 
I love iOS and because of that can't see myself ever switching back to Android, but I hate the Apple "feature" of no microSD slot and forcing iCloud for additional storage.

It doesn't really matter now that nearly all media is streamed but once upon a time it was such a PITA to have to sync it up with iTunes every time I wanted to add a file to the device
 
iOS, iPadOS etc. are optimized for apples specific products, while android has to run on so many different things and is also constantly modded by different manufacturers. I have had an ipad for years and love how smooth everything works even with only 2 gig ram on it.
 
use iOS if you're a productive person and don't have time fucking around - that and the ecosystem tie-in with all the other products is pretty brilliant
 
Android is very open and can do alot, but sometimes the OS can run like crap after a year or so. Apple's IOS is really fast and runs well even years after use, but can be limited. It just depends on what you want out of an OS.
 
Apple creates and designs its own hardware specifically tailored to their apps. That's why they're in both businesses so they can have full control over the end user experience to make sure things are running as smooth and easily for you as possible.

It's a similar situation with million others like you. It's also a similar situation with Windows PCs and MACs.

A MAC will be a smoother experience for someone who doesn't know how to tinker things or doesn't want to bother. "It just works". A Windows PC will always have better specs at lower prices but can also become a bloated landmine after a while (though the situation has been improved compared to the past). However, an experienced user will be able to keep Windows fast and clean for many years without formatting and be able to squeeze all the performance from the better specs (Source: Me).

Same thing applies with Android phones. They usually come with a lot of bloatware but if you root them and install a custom Android package or even just a program that kills/freezes unneeded applications that like to stay in the background, you can make any device feel like it's taking a breath of fresh air. Personally, i do this the moment the warranty expires. Also, just like Windows, Android speed/stability depends on the user. Meaning that the user himself can bloat the OS if they are not a bit careful of what they install and what they let run in the background. AFAIK, IOS is more restrictive and doesn't let users mess with it as easily. Pretty much like MACs.

As an experienced PC user, i never liked MACs because of how restrictive (and weak) they are compared to PCs at a similar price. And although i don't have much experience with iOS phones, i assume the same will apply for me there too. I appreciate the "play and forget" nature of apple products but i prefer tinkering with things to make the best of the hardware i'm getting.

I have both an iPhone and an Android, though my daily driver is the Android. The iPhone is very useful to me mainly because my whole family is Apple and being able to FaceTime and AirDrop with them forces me to keep an iPhone around I wouldn't otherwise use.

If you know what you're doing with tech, Android is much more flexible and lets you do things your way. If you are fine with Apple's way of doing everything, you'll be very happy with iOS.

I personally feel like iOS is very restrictive in what I'm allowed to do. I have to use Apple's keyboard layout or I can get fucked. I have no access to any of the files on my phone, I have to either use the iCloud or iTunes/Mac apps to get anything off the device. Even after I purposely uninstall Apple Maps, I have no way of directly sending anything to Google Maps or getting anything from Google Maps.

Google is retarded in different ways. It's amazing how after 10 years, they still can't come up with anything remotely as convenient or powerful as FaceTime and AirDrop. They have no concept of software integration, UI design, or even maintaining a service. Google shuts things down all the time if they aren't immediately successful, and the few things which are successful never seem to evolve in meaningful ways.

Neither Apple nor Google are perfect, and a perfect world would combine the smoothness, consistency, and predictability of iOS with the flexibility and power of Android. But like it or not, this is the world we live in.

Idk about y'all but but ever time I update my iPhone it just get slower. I have the Xs and my phone keep alerting me to update to the iOS 13.3 any way to turn off those notices?
 
It's not you, iOS really is great. Not expensive to get into the ecosystem either. An SE has a 4K camera and runs the latest iOS swimmingly and can be found renewed for a little over a hundred. You don't need the latest hardware to feel benefits. Hell, if you get an iPhone 7, that should have legs as the latest iPad that just came out is just an iPhone 7 internally pretty much.
 
Its the same scenario as consoles and PC's. Raw power only goes so far, but having a dedicated teams, working on dedicated hardware they understand and have strong documentation for, allows iOS team to put out stronger software.
 
Apple are the best OS makers in the world.
You should check out Mac OS, it's fast and doesn't even receive a 10th of the issues Windows gets.
