Really doubt you'll make up that much of a compute disadvantage with memory bandwidth. If 9v12 is true, MS would have screw up pretty badly to starve the gpu of bandwidth. As it looks, there's a 320bit bus with a theoretical max of 560Gb/s which is somewhat low IIRC but not low enough where the system would be bandwidth starved. They can fix that by jumping up to the next tier of ram chips. Keep in mind, it looks like ram will be the costliest aspect of the upcoming consoles.Even though many people are making it all about TF, it will be interesting to see how memory configurations workout for XsX and PS5. Even if there was a 3TF difference in compute, a 30% difference in memory bandwidth – assuming it was matched to alleviate typical next-gen workload bottlenecks – could result in a weaker GPU having a computing lead on a stronger GPU system.
You realise that PS4 is x86 and so is PS5?Here's what I believe we will get from a PS5 GPU.
Almost 2 years ago a Rumor about PS5
And AMD in a joint venture on RDNA 1.0 navi. RDNA 1 is GCN/RDNA.
Why and who needs GCN as a part of it's architecture?
I would Argue it's Sony who needs this as apart of it's apu. It's the Easyest path to backwards Compatibility.
As you know there's many ways to achieve this goal. Ms is doing this with software recompile. Sony is using hardware, that's why you need GCN as a part of your architecture.
That link is the leak of PS5'S power modes, PS4 GHz , PS4 pro GHz setting, and even the price of the cooling system(hot).
GCN + navi RDNA 1.0.
Then we have ray tracing hardware that I guess will be from RDNA2. I don't know if VRS hardware will be apart of the GPU as MS has said that it's "patented" vrs technology. Of course they can design there own Solution.
GCN + RDNA 1.0 + RDNA2 ray tracing hardware.
This fills Sony order for a PS5.
Here is something I don’t understand. To those that are disregarding GitHub, yet still accept the 9.2 TF number, why?
Rebel Wilson is hot.
They just got used to that number, and have no other to brag besides what insiders and devs say. Here is something I don’t understand. To those that are disregarding GitHub, yet still accept the 9.2 TF number, why?
Oh the true successor to the GameCube! Give me now!
clockspeed matters just as much as CU counts.Okay. If the PS5 turns out to have 54 CU’s and XSX has 56 CU’s does that make XSX more powerful, or are there other variables to consider like clock speed?

And also depends on the cooling solution you have as well, like how that Bloomberg article mentions Sony spending more on an advanced cooling solution. This allows them to play around with the clocks more, and you have other factors such as the RAM, SSD, the "secret sauce" and etc.clockspeed matters just as much as CU counts.
You can increase clock speed to compensate for those 2 CUs, but you've got to consider thermals and yields.Okay. If the PS5 GPU turns out to have 54 CU’s and XSX GPU has 56 CU’s, does that make XSX GPU more powerful, or are there other variables to consider like clock speed?
A 10% Delta could change due to clock adjustments, so makes sense to be silent for a while.
Also, what kind of "advanced" cooling solution do you guys think Sony is using that cost them "a few dollars" per unit? And also depends on the cooling solution you have as well, like how that Bloomberg article mentions Sony spending more on an advanced cooling solution. This allows them to play around with the clocks more, and you have other factors such as the RAM, SSD, the "secret sauce" and etc.

I mean, is an advanced high-quality thermal paste possible? Doesn't seem too far-fetched though right? And maybe a bigger fan too.Maybe Sony are spending more on a cooling solution because they have a more traditional form factor, the xsx cooling could be just as good or better because of its unique shape.
One sec, let me ask Blue and Dealer first. Is there anyone on this thread that thinks there's still a slight chance for HBM2 RAM on PS5 or is it just me?

On power efficiency they are way behind but Not on ipc they are most on par! Maybe you have confused the two thingsI saw the figure quoted in a Moore's Law Is Dead video, and I take them as a pretty good source (among others) for tech talk it it seemed a good fit given Nvidia's generally been a bit ahead of AMD on GPU efficiency for a while now.
But if my quote is wrong, I've no problem with that. Just makes RDNA (and RDNA2 in particular) even better!
Can we get some Stone Cold vs the Rock debate going? The two machines will be pretty even, like Stone Cold vs. the Rock.
The consoles are so close..PS5 is Stone Cold and Series X is The Rock. the Series X can do stone cold stunners to the PS5 all day and the PS5 can do Rock Bottoms to the Series X all day longCan we get some Stone Cold vs the Rock debate going?

Can occur on any number of specific next-gen topics.
So wouldn't that confirm they have some insider knowledge about the PS5? Would they be about legal ramifications about them having insider knowledge about a rival console when the rival hasn't announced anything? It would confirm that they're 1000% confident that the PS5 will not match or even exceed the Series X in terms of power, which as of right now they're not. Because if they went ahead and announced that the Series X was "the most powerful console of this generation" and Sony comes out with a more powerful console, that would end up being one of the biggest marketing failures for Xbox in the history of gaming.
Nah...everyone Say that Sony don't wait Microsoft for the price (on gaf the thread was even closed)Heres an idea.
Sony hasn't delayed their reveal because of Corona Virus, Sony hasn't changed their plans.
They waited on MS to reveal 90% of their details on Series X. They will wait for MS to reveal Series S, specs, form factor and many more details. Then they will have a PS5 announcement and say PS5 is more powerful than Series X and S.
Then after MS names a price, Sony goes slightly below that and banks on PS Plus sales and Playstation's brand power to count on massive sales out the gate to make up for the small loss they take.

And Penello said that at this stage you can change very little in the hardware
And this is to go...EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!RDNA 4
Hardware was already changed in 2017, that is plenty of time.
Why anyone would believe Mr. 40% is beyond me. Shame on you for being fooled again.
That would be a MassacreHeres an idea.

Welcome to the Thunderdome amigo. We are a roudy Luny bunch here, and get a little crazy with things like, RDNA 3, mucho Terafloppes, and cough the neverending Github debate. so excuse our craziness and enjoy this threadHi Everyone. My first post.
I just want to see some next-gen games. We haven't really seen any games for PS5/XBSX yet. Hellblade 2 looked promising, but it wasn't in-game demo.
Regards
Not completely true if you are moving from GCN to a new architecture. Although it can be done it is not easy. X86 is just half the work. Furthermore if it was so easy why did they even have a mode selection in the AMD test .You realise that PS4 is x86 and so is PS5?
GPU architecture has almost zero impact on backwards compatibility! A simple patch is all that would be needed to get PS4 games on PS5.
Just think! PC has no problems when running games with different GPU's.
It's a simple patch/driver mate. Not completely true if you are moving from GCN to a new architecture. Although it can be done it is not easy. X86 is just half the work.
When there's actual information to be had, we'll have it.A week ago this thread was a way of seeing actual information or leaks. Now its just petty squabbling.
I still believe... Sony can take a bigger hit on price.. because they have guaranteed sales of 2 million plus in week 1. MS may take longer. MS didn't take a hit on Xbox One X.. Sony could have the same specs and still price It a little lower. That would be a Massacre![]()

And I am really looking forward to the next generation of gaming and want to see what's in store for these next gen consoles. Going to be some exciting stuff.![]()
