GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

Well I didn't jump on him 'cause I think he's wrong but because he posted that out of place opinion in this rumour and speculation thread where everyone's waiting for a Direct 🙃

This feels like a good time to ask.

Is general Nintendo discussion welcomed in the thread, or should it be kept more strictly to the title keywords of news, rumors, and speculation?

We just have such a good little community here, that sometimes I'm tempted to just talk about Nintendo things that wouldn't be worth making a full thread for.

I had the title changed to Nintendo News, Speculation etc for this reason so encompass all things Nintendo.. any other suggestions for a thread title from anyone?

Why because we can have a friendly debate over graphic fidelity? Stop over to the next gen thread if you want to see an ugly debate. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion about a game and people are passionate about the games that they like. As long as It doesn't get out of hand I see no problem with people debating back and forth with how good it looks.
There's a difference between having a back and forth discussion, and sticking your fingers in your ears and dismissing someone's opinion as "wrong" simply because they had something negative to say about a port on your favorite platform.

Which only one person did, so I'm not even sure why we're arguing here lol

Y'all keep bumping this thread, and I keep getting let down when I see there's nothing new from Nintendo. -Sigh-

I'm actually more pissed about SNES online. It started out great but now it's just typical Nintendo bullshit.

I like it. Would prefer if games were coming out more frequently, and more major releases as of late, but to be able to pay something like 3 or 4 dollars and have access to some of the most beloved, timeless retro games ever is pretty cool.

I got the Switch SNES controller recently, and playing Kirby Super Star with it has been a lot of fun. The fact that I'm able to just jump in and play one of Nintendo's classics for such a small price, and with an amazing controller recreation as well, really leaves me with positive feelings about the whole thing.

I've wanted to get a Super Nintendo controller, and I had also looked at the 8bitdo controllers as well. I want something for more than just SNES, but I also want that top notch build quality. Who here has bought an 8bitdo controller?

Yea I mean it's hard to argue because it's so cheap. But still it would be great if they could add some SNES rpg classics or something. Illusion of Gaia and maybe finally release Terranigma in NA.

I have. It was their really fancy NES controller with dual analog, a few years ago. I liked it quite a bit, but I don't know that I could call the build quality top-notch, although it was certainly good.

However, I've seen people swear by that SNES one they make, with the dual analogs and shaped like a modern controller. That tells me they're probably making some pretty good stuff these days.

The picross thing I love, but the artstyle screams to me of "tumblerite" game. The same trash that is seen with 2064 ROM or that shitty dad dating "VN".

I feel EXACTLY the same. I adore Picross, but that art style is so repulsive and indicative of so many amateurish indie games which I avoid like the plague.

I can get past the art if there is a genuinely good story that isn't SJW/Sheltered BS that we see so often these days in indie titles. Hopefully someone who played it can weigh in.

Just finished Metro 2033. Overall a fantastic game. Superb atmosphere and solid story and gameplay. As an adaptation it was okay, wasn't too fond of the heavy action sequences as it's very little action in the book, and the story went a little too fast at times.

For example,
the arrival at Polis, which is the main objective for Artyom and a huge part of the novel, was done in like 5 minutes, which I thought was strange. Also, the different stations you visit, which plays a big part in fleshing out the lore, was mainly just used as a place for stocking up ammo.

It was clear that 4A games tried for a more action-focused approach with big battles against the various monsters and nasty humans you encounter throughout the adventure, than the more somber, tense filled and psychological journey that takes place in the book. But I know, video games gotta video game so in the end, I'm not too surprised that the the developers went this way. Different mediums and all that. On the positive note, some sections were very faithful to the novel and overall 4A paid a great amount of respect to the source material.

I enjoyed this game a lot. Terrific work on the port, it looks amazing with no frame drops whatsoever. It's precisely the game that the Switch needs to diversify its library of games.

Metro 2033 is the best story-focused FPS I've played since Alien Isolation and Metroid Prime, and that's not a small feat to be compared to those two behemoths.

i have this game waiting to dive into this has made me more excited !

Just a word to the wise about Metro. The main menu says that hardcore is for shooter fans, but is absolutely brutal, especially compounded with the mode that makes things more survival horror, ammo scarce, etc.

Experienced Metro fans maybe. I'd keep it on normal to get into the game with.

I love our Nintendo community. What makes it more awesome for me is that it includes my favourite members on here. Just wish Flintty Flintty was a part of it.
I'm a huge Nintendo fan! I pop in to the occasional thread now and then but usually more of an observer. I especially enjoy the Nintendo Direct hype threads!
I'll try and contribute more 😆👍🏻

I own an SF30 2.4, SN30 Pro and an SN30 Pro Plus. SF/SN30 2.4 isn't very good and was before they started using USB-C. Pro is a great middle ground if price is a concern. The Pro Plus is what I'd recommend, it's a badass controller. Has analog triggers n everything.

For real? Are there any games for Switch that would take advantage of it, or is this feature something that would be useful on PC or some other platform?

I have the wired SN30 Pro and it's mostly a good controller but the D-pad sucks. It's too easy to hit directions you don't want, just by slightly shifting the pressure on the button. I bought it to play rhythm games on PC, but it's not the best fit for that. I haven't used it with my Switch because I have a Lite. I looked up some info online at the time, and some people said the SN30 Pro+ might have a better D-pad. Not too sure about that though. Price and size was a consideration for me, so I went with the SN30 Pro.

Probably just for PC, or if these controllers work on an Xbox. Might be per-game on Switch, assuming that the analog signal is being transmitted when the controller is in "Switch mode" (you can swap between Xinput, Dinput, Mac and Switch modes). Sadly I'm not finding much documentation on the matter beyond this reddit post, where the posters couldn't get it working :messenger_frowning_

Yeah, there's most likely not any way for Switch games to take advantage of the analog triggers since Nintendo isn't supporting analog triggers with any of their official controllers. It's still a nice feature to have! I think I'm going to get a Pro Plus. I've had an eye on it for several months and it just seems like one of the best third party controllers ever made.

Enjoy!! and to address another concern...

D-pad is definitely better on the Pro Plus. Feels less "squishy." Granted I personally did not have as much issue with the d-pad on the Pro.
