My comparision last gen and new gen based on cpu+gpu tflops.

Guys can I just say that the SSD is indeed a game changer for Sony, it's bloody brilliant. The problem is that everything else isn't, at all.

And even then, the SX has an SSD anyway. Not as good no, but it doesn't matter.

So, as I did this generation:

SX for multiplats
PS5 for first party

I'm actually still expecting this all to be a bait and switch, and they have a MUCH higher Pro ready for Christmas. Maybe,

So soon after base model's launch, though? That seems really risky.

Honestly I think VFXVeteran VFXVeteran might've been right about two models, but MS might launch a cheaper Lockhart down the line and Sony a stronger PS5 Pro. I don't see MS doing an XSX Pro unless a PS5 Pro just completely laps the XSX.

Can see both PS5 Pro and Lockhart happening in 2022, but not 2021.

So, PS5/XSX delta = PS4 Pro/XOX delta? I know the relative difference will be smaller due to TF numbers, but why were everyone saying they were practically equal with such a difference?

Just in case you're wondering about the gpu in the PS5, it's 10.3 TFLOPS with some quite unique features that sony has built in. Doing the math, the gpu power difference between the 12 TFLOP gpu in the Xbox series X and the 10.3 TFLOP gpu in the PS5 is 16% in the Xbox's favour.
The formula to use is the highest number divided by the lowest.
In this case it's 12/10.3 and the result is 1.16504854369, which in simplified terms is 1.16x or 16%, barely enough to raise the framerate by a couple of frames and a slight improvement in shadows with maybe a slight improvement in vegetation density which isn't enough to warrant picking the stronger unit over the weaker one.

Good post and the PS5 runs at higher frequency which makes the actual difference even smaller than 16%,
but sadly I think your post will go under in the wave of trolls and console war fanboys screaming about being disappointed about things they have no understanding of but just want to provoke people.

3D Audio system is called the "Tempest Engine". Sony really was running with the Shakespearean nomenclature from the beginning.

"It's clear that achieving our goals with 3D Audio is going to be a multi-year, step-by-step process."

"Headphone audio implementation is largely complete at this time."

Sounds like BC and 3D audio aren't complete at this time.

So, Sony went full derp on the design phase and is now clocking UPTO 2.23Ghz on the GPU.

The Xbox is has a better chip design and bet it uses less power while being more powerful.

I also wonder what the sustained clocks for the PS5 are because I expect they are lower than those revealed specs.

I was all in on PS4 last gen, going Xbox this time around as it is going to be the better console for multiplats.

So much audio engineering is done for PS5. I dont know how I will listen to my old games now :D

PS5 = new Walkman?..

But I am really concerned about the clocks, how often we will be able to use the max speed and if the cooling will be able to keep uo, even after some years

Sony GAF going from "Github is so wrong, you should be banned for trolling if you mention it" to

hiding.

Github:

9.2 TF
Navi 10
RDNA 1
2.00GHz
36CU

Reveal
10.3
RDNA 2
2.23GHz
36CU

The Github data was in fact old as people have been saying and not the final hardware.

I told many people on here to not dismiss 100% true data...

and I got mocked for it, like many others.

btw. 10TF is still good, which I also said multiple times. the differences won't be dramatic in real world examples.
I'm just worried that they even clocked higher than the github tests which I didn't expect. I expected 2 additional active CUs to get to 10TF

the heat will be a real issue
Yup, both Xbox and Ps5 target chips were in Github. Just not with final clocks. In Arden's case it was a full 56cu chip while retail will be with 4 disabled.

I'm also positively shocked about the ability to push clocks all the way to 2.2ghz.

I lost all the respect for this Man, what have you done mate?????? He downplayed not just the GPU power, but also the RayTracing He was something like" you can use it you cannot , who cares? games are good with rasterization too" WHATTTTTTTTT? Are you completely insane? Who cares of 3d Audio man, all this fluff talk on the ssd, yes ok is fast but man who cares? I want fully raytraced CGI quality games, you should have given us that man. what is this?

The sound stuff sounds pretty much on par with what the SX has as well, so not even a win there.

I'm shocked.

As for the difference in power, it was essentially flops and flops alone for the percent gulf this gen wasn't it? But this time, near enough everything is far better, so not sure how we even calculate that...?

Multiplats will probably run better on XSX by a bit. 10% would be my guess. BUT i have zero idea what the fuck will exclusives do. there are a shitton on ASICs on that thing.
My guess is anywhere a range from about equal as xsx exclusives to quite a bit more impressive. I expect the game count that is exclusive to the PS5 to increase a bit compared to current gen.
If u design ur game around using all those chips on the PS5 a port to XSX seems unlikely, unless they have similar solutions to those problems. But i doubt it. Cerny always said that he dislikes brute force solutions and that really defines PS5 this time.

Xbox fans who said it XSX would be substantially more powerful were reamed for months, and now in less than an hour when Xbox has the advantage its time to call off the dogs? k

Console warring is moderated on both sides evenly. If there is anything egregious, report it. We can't see everything.

I think once people calm down they will realize this is FINE. First, it will maintain the lower price and that means it will keep dominating sales. Secondly, the difference will literally be a few FPS. As long as we don't have bigger differences in resolution, etc. like the PS4 versus Xbox1, it's not gonna be much of a deal at all. What we need to see is the games.

On another note...HOLY SHIT on that SSD! That's going to be very interesting and I don't think people can really get a feel for just what it will mean until we see some games.

Narrow and fast is better than broad and slow at the same Tflop. In practice PS5 it will be closer to X. Think about Vega 56 and 64.

Cant be bothered finding it ... but I literrally said they would overclock it to just get over 10 tf for marketing purposes.

#justsaying

.. but then the number of insiders posting how the PS5 was faster had me convinced I was wrong.

The only people getting sexy 13tf ass are xbox players now.

Xsx can run OG Xbox games at 4K, and HDR. PS5 can't run all PS4 games. This is a mess. Is it just a software side thing? Do they need a dedicatedly BC team like Xbox?

even no word on the amount of RAM. he is basically like" we can do everything with PS5 but nothing at best, but still you can load a game in seconds" MAAAAANNNN WHO CAAAAARESSSSSS

What was that shit?! The only interesting thing about the PS5 is the damn storage, everything else is weaker compared to the Xbox series X.

Honestly what the fuck was that?!

For those saying $399, Bloomberg reminder

Sony is struggling to keep costs down on the PlayStation 5 as the console hurtles toward its big debut later this year. Bloomberg is reporting that the cost to build the machine has risen to $450 per unit, a big increase on the PS4's $380. The financial outlet's analysts are saying that the sticker price for the new console could be close to $470, which could be a hard sell for cash-strapped buyers.

The report says that Sony is struggling to secure DRAM and flash memory in the quantities necessary for mass production of the unit. And the PS5's component costs are higher than other machines because, for instance, it has a pricier cooling system to avoid its internals from boiling. Bloomberg's sources also say that we can expect a new PSVR headset to debut either alongside, or shortly after, the PS5.

And if lockhart comes out Sony really will be screwed....

have you noticed how he said "most of the top 100 most popular PS4 games will be playable on launch"???

let's go away from the GPU for a moment and discuss this... this doesn't sound so great
