Final Fantasy 7 Remake Spoilers Thread!

After completing this game, I have hopes that part 2 will allow players to define the storyline by actions/choices taken throughout the game. This is all based on the ridiculous ending of part 1 of changing what has already been predetermined. If part 2 isn't an open world affair, I'll skip it.

Dude, this isn't a Bioware game. FF games have set plot lines, and SE would spend even more years making the games trying to work in multiple choice plots with different outcomes.

I also would not want or expect an open world. It would just wind up being a vast expanse of emptiness, that they would try to fill with meaningless tasks to try and justify.

Did anyone else think for a brief moment that the Angel of The Slums was gonna somehow be Yuffie?
Was thinking "Nahhhh, they wouldn't do that, surely....Would they?" lol
I'm looking forward to her interacting with Yuffie hopefully at some point though.
They seem like they would lock horns right away. lol

havent started my hard mode run yet. i waned to level up and beef up all my materia, to hopefully make it easier. still though, i am not looking forward to hell house after hearing so much about it.

I am doing my Hard run right now and I was thinking it wasn't too bad (i did start at level 50 and lots of upgrades materia) until I got to Hell House. That fight killed my confidence quick.

You mean the same pointless quest in the linear affair of part 1 with "look for X cats", "look for X kids", or even "change X water filters" :messenger_sleeping:

Additionally, you can throw set plot lines out the window with how they ended part 1.

Yes, and it would be even worse in an open world, with more pointless unrewarding collectathons and boring hunts.

No, you can't. The plot will be set, it just won't be the same as the original. You will still have a linear story. It took SE 5 years to make a linear game with a small game world like FFVIIR do you really think they'd risk stretching out dev times even more by trying to add several different plot outcomes based on your choices? Not to mention recording much, much more dialogue and making more cutscenes than they would for a linear plotline?

Can anyone confirm for me if the original game had cloud dressing up in drag and dancing with a flamboyant man on stage? Honestly dont remember.

The original had the cross dressing cloud too, but how you get the dress is different, first, you must to do some subquests like taking back the clothing shop owner's father inspiration back to make the dresses for cloud and aeris (in the original, the inspiration was to make a dress for a man, in the remake, it was a honeybee inn vip pass), you must also have to get a wig as a reward in the gym's squat mini game. The entire honeybee inn was optional, but there, you get either the bikini briefs or make up to make your cross dress more atractive to Don Corneo.
So, in the original, there is either the trios nor the dancing scene/mini game in the honeybee in.

Says the video is unavailable and the first image looked like the gym.

So Im assuming it was in there. :)

That is an optional infamous scene in the honey bee in, cloud is basically raped in a jacuzzi by group of gym men. We lose this, but get that dance scene, a fair exchange I think.

Is there an 'All' materia in this version? Is it called something else?

Remember how you could link all and fire, ice etc. In the original to attack all monsters in one attack?

Hmmmmmm. Just read this comment while reading stuff online:

(The three whispers you fight at the end) are the Advent Children. They are all left-handed, and they even share certain moves that are in the movie. And, they also share the same elements as them. (fire, elec, and wind). Furthermore, they come together to summon Bahamut. Just like in the movie.

It also makes perfect sense as to why they don't want Cloud and company killing the Fates and changing the future. Since it's the original FF7's ending that gave them life through Jenova's will in the lifestream two years later.

This at least.... gives some narrative weight to the Fate entities beyond the devs just wanting to do different stuff. In the OG+AC, Jenova isn't actually defeated completely, as physical fragments still exist in the world, and Sephiroth's spirit survives and takes form of those three in the movie, as they are essentially clones. And Sephiroth's spirit is seemingly permanently stuck in the lifestream. So in this sense, neither Seph nor the team (through the visions they see) are happy with coming future events as it seems like a permanent stalemate.

I hope they go deep into this type of lore building in the future. I.E the reasons why Seph wants the future to change as much as Cloud & team do could be potentially fascinating. I assume the advent children were acting against Sephiroths will then, since they were defending their own "future" existence which Seph no longer sees as viable.

Seph's talk at the end was actually pretty good too IMO. "Careful now. That which lies ahead…does not yet exist. Our world will become a part of it…one day. But I will not end. Nor will I have you end. Cloud, lend me your strength. Let us defy destiny, together. Seven seconds 'till the end. Time enough for you, perhaps. But what will you do with it? Let's see."

The "nor will I have you end" implies Seph needs Cloud & team to do something for him. Might be linking back to the black materia and how Seph got the team to do it for him rather than do it himself. Though this was never really explained very well in the OG, so hopefully remake will make the lore around that more intelligible and fleshed out.

Some people think "7 seconds til the end" refers to Aerith dying but I'm not so sure. I'm thinking more like him fulfilling his goal of conquering the planet, as that is what he would consider "the end". Though the "time enough for you, perhaps. but what will you do with it?" is tricky. Is this Seph still holding out hope that Cloud will join his side? Maybe on the promise of saving Aerith? Hopefully they have the full story plotted out to a good extent to fulfill the hype being generated by such an ending. Whew.

Since the three whispers, when assessed, say that they use a sword, gun, and fists, that seemed more like an allusion to Cloud, Barret, and Tifa, not AC.

I think he's getting at the fact that Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo, are characters who all respectively fight with a sword, guns, and fists. Characters who were the focus on AC.

Having had some time to digest all of this, to read other takes, articles, yeah I remain unmoved. I don't like this new direction....at all. Call it purism, but there was so much potential here for expansion using a template that already existed.

I've no interest in future episodes.

Yes, I won't buy Part 2 either. They fuked it up.

Had a good time overall with this...I'd say 7.5/10. Some thoughts:

-Graphics...I thought that all parts in evening/night looked better, & whilst ofc there'd be some light depending on where one is located in the slums vs plate edge (& plate suns), daytime scenes felt too bright overall. Unloaded textures & fuzzy/stretched backgrounds, eep. Hope some of that gets fixed, but they were mostly minor distractions to me..

-I was onboard for a new combat system, despite loving OG, & playing it so many times - so yeah, I really enjoyed the combat, save for camera having a life of its own sometimes, would like some refinements there, & it taking me a bit to figure out wind/ice. Weapons system was a great addition, & thought keeping each ability after becoming proficient was very fair. Since OG, materia has been my favorite spell/ability system, & I was relieved they kept it in, & didn't mess with it too much. Felt the AP levels were pretty well placed for most. Boss fights were great...I mean, if anything, I thought there was too little combat, not that I want hordes of trash mobs, but some more opportunities & a few more mini-bosses wouldn't have made me sad.

-Characters...Cloud slowwwwwly opening up a bit, as well as Aerith & Tifa's friendship were highlights for me, but my favorite of the main party was Barret (tho my least favorite to play). As for Sephiroth, I was fine with SE bringing him up earlier. Avalanche crew was pretty good, I liked Chapter 4, tho could've done w/out Roche. Enjoyed The Turks & Rufus, & Hojo had me loathing him immediately (just as I'd hoped).

-Music had my ears screaming w/joy, main menu theme & 'Midnight Rendevous' being personal favorites. Cannae wait to get my hands on the OST.

-Writing/Story...I'm (very) cautiously optimistic. I liked many character moments w/in side quests, but didn't care for them as a whole. As for main scenario, I'd prefer Aerith & Zack's stories to play out as they originally did, but if they (& other events) are shuffled around or happen differently, I think I'd be OK w/ that...granted, there's a lot of 'if' caveats there.

Finished up the game last night. Really enjoyed the game up until the end.

What the fuck?

I don't know if the decision was made because SE wanted to make things "fresh" for gamers that had played through the original, I don't know if there was concern with SE leadership around wanting to make the game feel JRPG complete, but FF7 really messed things up at the end of the game.

- The whispers are stupid as hell.

- Barrett being stabbed the same way Aerith was — Jesus, why? If Aerith still ends up dying the same way, the impact will be greatly diminished.

- The way that the final battle unfolded was awful. They shouldn't have added the battle with fates; the portal was dumb; the battle with Sephiroth was too over the top.

All they needed was a challenging battle with the robo car (after the motorcycle sequence), a brief encounter with Sephiroth, and the team looking off the end of the highway [close game]

- Zach... Ugh...

NOMURA!!!! I blame you. (he can't keep getting away with it.gif)

This is probably true especially considering that they're trying to keep things the way it original went down. However, the AC trio are a sword, gauntlets (+ a gun), and guns too. It's probably just because that's how they were designed in AC originally though and it's a neat coincidence for Remake.

barrier materia at max has manawall. It really helps do survive bahamut special.

If you stagger him, it resets the counter. When he counts a number, it's a good opportunity to try to get max DPS to put him into pressure state. Also, large magical attacks like firaga can interrupt his attacks.

fuck yeah finally got him!

Thanks for the help!

A couple pairs of revival earrings also helped 😊

forgot about those... still almost died after his ultimate attack but managed to stay healed up. My heart was pumping like a jack hammer towards the end

ok, now onto finish this run, the last of my assessing that I didn't do in my first run, then it's hard mode time 💪

I rewatched Advent Children the other day. God that movie sucks. Made me realize how much better the voice acting is in FF7R. Whoever voices the baby Sephorith villain stand-in (already forgot his name) has such a trash VO performance!!!

On the flip side, did anyone else think that Zacks VO in FF7R sounded like shit? The crisis Core VA was better for sure!

English voice acting in Advent Children was pretty bad, yeah. The Japanese is much better.

At least with FF7R the English voices are decent. The only one I thought was questionable was Sephiroth.

Yeah Zack stood out to me since his voice in 7R sucked. I just assumed since he doesn't have many lines they didn't hire someone that good.

Dude what is the point in getting all of the fucking dresses if Corneo only ever picks Cloud?

That's just stupid and lazy, esp when Cloud is up here looking like a trashbag and Tifa and Aerith look glam as fuck.

Ya know, I think this game was a stellar love letter to the original. I want to give it all the praise it deserves and then some because it managed to grab me in a way not many games do these days. It grabbed mah FEELS.

That said...

HOW, THE FUCK!? HOW do you let the english voice for ONE OF THE MOST PIVOTAL CHARACTERS IN FINAL FANTASY VII, sound like mother fucking ZAPP BRANNIGAN?!?

I wondered if maybe it wasn't as bad as I remembered but nope. Completely killed any tension this moment had lmao Here's the original for comparison.

It's a real shame because the rest of cast nails it. Zack's original voice matched him perfectly.

The only way to do a hard mode run is through chapter selection, right?

What are your guys' times on the Pride and Joy boss rush battle simulation?

I got 7:35 so far. Min/maxing this fight is a lot of fun.

Dang you beat Bahamut that quick? Make a vid dude.
Yeah just spam firaga at him and he's stunlocked. Astal Ward, firaga, ATB boost to get max ATB, firaga, firaga. That'll shoot 6 fireballs his way and you can have your other characters do whatever you want in the meantime.

If I increase DPS even more I can probably kill him before he even spits out iftit

I didn't have any luck with that so I thought it was a bogus strat, I'll give it another go/.

I didn't have any luck with that so I thought it was a bogus strat, I'll give it another go/.
My lineup and gear and strat:

Tifa: Mythril Claws, 4 slot bangle, fury ring +magic and MP spec, cure+magnify just in case, ATB assist, lightning, fire

Aerith: Silver Staff, 4 slot bangle, fury ring, +MP cost reduction + magic +MP, ATB Boost, First Strike, Lightning + Elemental, Fire

Barret: EKG Cannon, 4 slot bangle, Gotten-whatever it's called that gives me limit break from the start, +MP +HP, +Luck, First Strike, Lightning+elemental, Time materia

Shiva:

Lay down Astral Ward with Aerith, build up 2 more bars, and have Tifa build 2 bars. Whoever's closer to the Astral Ward, get in and start spamming firagas. Shoot Focus Shot with Barret when you see pressure state. If you have high enough magic stat, you'll kill her in 6 or 7 fireballs without even having to use the limit.

Fat Chocobo:

Build 2 bars with Tifa, get level 3 chi. Build up 2 bars with everyone else too. Use overpower + regular attack to put Fat Chocobo into pressure state and use focus strike and focus shot. When you stagger Fat Chocobo, Tifa should be at 2 bars of ATB ideally.

Right before you stagger Chocobo, start Aerith's Judgement Ray.

Stagger Fat Chocobo do Tifa combo True Strike, True Strike, Rise and Fall, Omnistrike, attack to 2 bars ATB, True Strike, True Strike to put the stagger damage multiplier over 300%. Somewhere in the middle of that combo, or even before you start it, activate Catastrophe with Barret.

Leviathan:

Build 2 bars with Barret and Aerith with an Astral Ward. It's tricky to get opportunities to use Thunder, so you need to use Tifa as bait to force Leviathan to do its close range attacks. When it does shoot off a Thundaga in the Astral Ward with Barret and Aerith. Repeat this cycle one or two more times until Leviathan is pressured. Once he is, start nuking with Thundaga, and Focus Strike to stagger. Right when he staggers, immediately use catastrophe since Leviathan's stagger time is really short. If you have ATB to spare, get in some True Strikes with Tifa to increase stagger damage multiplier. Hopefully you kill him before he starts phase 2, but if not, keep nuking with Thundaga and shooting with the ranged characters.

Bahamut:

Use Focus Shots and Focus Strikes to try to get Bahamut's stagger bar up as much as possible before he summons Ifrit. When he's almost at 50% HP, get Aerith in the Astral Ward and do the firaga, ATB boost to get max ATB, firaga, firaga combo. Get Tifa in there too and have her do Firaga, Firaga. Hopefully you did it in the right order so that Aerith gets a little more ATB from Tifa's ATB Assist materia. This should put Bahamut into a fallen down pressure state, and if he's in this state, he won't summon Ifrit. You don't have a timer to know how long this pressure state lasts, so use your best judgement. Use Barret's Catastrophe too. Hopefully it kills Bahamut before he summons Ifrit, but it hasn't happened for me yet.

Pride and Joy:

This thing is a Pushover, just make an Astral Ward, and spam Thundaga all day long with all 3 characters.

im having a blast with hard mode. still only on ch 4 so it isn't that hard yet. the bosses are more off a challenge though. scorpion sentinel spanked me a couple times, then i got real strategic with my materia and wound up absorbing a ton of his attacks and spanking him. super fun.

I changed up my strategy a little - No more cure + magnify.

Time + magnify muahahaha. If I play it perfectly, I don't need to heal anyway. Lifesaver + Chakra is my only healing lol.

Also, Shiva isn't immune to stop :messenger_open_mouth:

Maybe I should switch to Mithril Rod too, for DPS.

Random thought: What if the remake took place mostly on an alternate timeline to begin with and Sephiroth from past or beyond Advent Children came here to confuse and manipulate the Whispers so that he could absorb them and change the fates of ALL timelines to his liking? i.e. Cloud and Aerith WEREN'T meant to meet up in the street, Cloud was meant to kill Reno in the Church, Cloud wasn't meant for the second reactor mission, etc.

Also, this may explain the differences between the Sephiroth that's been manipulating Cloud from Chapter 2 on, and the Jenova/Sephiroth that stabs President Shinra and Barrett, as that one hardly said anything to Cloud.

This coincides with my previous thought of the Remake following Sephiroth through the portal into the original timeline to fight the Whispers as Zack was outside Midgar about to receive his ultimate fate, thus making wonder whether or not Zack/Young Cloud and the Remake heroes switched timelines after the epic explosion resulting from beating Sephiroth.

Dude what is the point in getting all of the fucking dresses if Corneo only ever picks Cloud?

That was really disappointing, why would they have removed it...

I finished the game on normal difficulty couple of days ago with a playtime of nearly 57 hours.

What a fantastic game and you can clearly see that the people who made it really love the original FF7. I got goosebumps so many times during my playthrough. Only couple of times I didn't like the music like for an example I hated the remix of "The Oppressed" and I was really worried that it would play in Wall Market like in the original (the OG track is awesome).

The fighting system might be my altime favorite for any FF game. It's just so good and I can't wait to have more materia slots and materia to try! And I love the fact that you can upgrade your weapons so that they won't became obsolete. I used the Buster Sword almost throught the whole game 💪🏻
And the "matrix / bullet time" is just so cool!

The voice work was just fine for my taste. I think the main cast was really good, but some of the side characters weren't like Kyrie.

I still don't know how to feel about the ending. It's just something that I really wasn't expecting to happen and I'm not sure if I liked it. I don't like the way they handled Sephiroth, he's not that mysterious and bad ass anymore, he got his ass kicked already by Cloud and the others. And holy shit was the Shinra presidents death scene nerfed to a fucking joke. No blood and no horror elements.

I have no idea what the alternative timeline stuff will be. I really don't want that that Zack is alive and Aeris (Yes that's still what I'll call her) won't die by the Musamune of Sephiroth.

I think it's great that they had the balls to change the story, but let's hope that they don't fuck it up too much.

Still trying to wrap around my feelings, because FF7 is maybe the most important and favorite game of mine.
