Wow. The main annual conference in my field already canceled this uesr’s in November. I figured it wouldn’t happen as it’s 5kish people and cramped presentation rooms and a rebound of infections seems all but guaranteed in fall/winter, just earlier than I expected them to call it. But I suppose the sooner Given how many years in advance the conference sites/hotels are booked and the thousands of room cancellations etc.

My co-workers wife tested positive 2 weeks ago. He just came back from his 2 week quarantine and we talked last night.
Heres how it went..
We are Central-North Jersey (#2 hot spot basically)
Him and his wife both early 60's. Two children living at home, sons a marine daughter in college, both early 20's.
Wife had allergy symptoms for 3 days, then a 101 temp. Doctor suggested testing. Came to her car in full PPE and tested her as she sat in car. Day or two later local health department called telling her she tested positive (doctors hospitals alert local health department it seems)
Two to three days later she felt better. Never more then allergy type symptoms. Stuffy nose, tired feeling. Her 101 temp and other times with a 'slightly' above temp only occured at night. She felt fine basically during the day, aside from sniffles and tired muscle type feeling.
Co-worker, no symptoms. His kids, no symptoms. Ever. At all.
Hes back at work. Guess he never brought it to work, or if he did none of us got 'sick'.

One of my girlfriends best friends also has/had it.
A nurse in New Rochelle, NY, hour or so outside NYC.
Same deal. Felt a little icky, nothing that would be 'flu' type. Just a little run down with sniffles and a 2 to 3 degree higher temp at times.
She tested positive also. Her husband and children zero symptoms. Both mid-30's and kids between 3 and 8.

Regarding the immunity thing, it's just too early to tell. Some viruses don't mutate much and once most people have it and build antibodies they will be immune to it.
Others are like the flu and mutate and have a bunch of different strains such that even with the vaccine some people still get it as they catch a strain other than the strain(s) targeted by that year's vaccine. No way to know yet how Covid-19 is mutating other than that there are apparently 3 strains so far and some limited cases of people catching it a second time from what I've read. Those people could be the rare exception to the rule and most people build antibodies that will fight off all existing strains. But we don't know if it will mutate more aggressively in the future. We'll find out when things reopen and it hits again this fall. Know other way to know. I just hope we keep banning crowds of thousands and tens of thousands until we know as those could be disastrous spreader events in a worst case scenario and aren't essential to the overall economy unlike every day businesses.

No, it does not mean that.
For there to be a 2nd wave, a 1st wave would have needed to form, and crash. There's absolutely nothing we know that would have randomly stopped a 1st wave.
It's also a nothing story. A military historian wrote a story over a month ago published by the Conservative Review? Where are the facts?
Unfortunately even in hard hit areas like NYC, the antibody results indicate that a 2nd wave could effect far more people than the 1st.
I still think we can have a fairly nice Summer, but if youre not expecting lockdowns, or a larger 2nd wave later this year, you're likely in for a rude awakening.

Mortality rates are dropping, but R0s keep getting revised upwards and no one is immune. There are still a tremendous amount of people going to die from this virus if we don't adjust how we return to daily life, and the numbers would have been much worse had we not locked down.

Two things. There are different strains some more lethal than others. Also it'd be interesting to know how many of these people have permanent organ damage, as even people with mild symptoms are said to have potentially permanent lung damage.
Also I heard from some chinese study that about a third of people who got infected had barely any antibodies some with undetectable antibodies.
