Honest to God I have no idea when or why that even happened. I usually reserve the ignore function for the worst people I come across, but as far as I know Melon is pretty okay so idk what happened.

Hey if you can find a post she ever made that would warrant me blocking her then more power to you. I usually remember this kind of thing since I regularly add and remove people.

I would normally suggest that you think about how you got to this point, but self-reflection isn't your strong suit.
 
I'm a hair older in the spectrum, and my education both undergrad and law school taught that there are no sacred cows. Question everything. The free flowing of ideas and their discussion no matter what always was better at addressing problems than silencing that discussion long term.

I used to think that was the end game for all people who sought information education and understanding.

I was wrong.

Places like Reset do not value that. They are actively against that. Once you realize that, then you can properly place resetera where it wants to be. Firmly a safe space echo chamber for the far left. They want it that way. And that's fine. We can all do what want. Just don't go in there with any illusion that a discussion is what they are after.

Here is much more open. Say what you want. Get ready to be challenged though.

Only N_I would look at Era and its blatant racism, doxxing, transphobia, homophobia, sexism , moderators that support such and prolific use of terminology such as "coon", and think, "Yea, they are on the same level as GAF." What a joke.

Resetera is cool if you stick to the threads that are largely shielded from the moderators (i.e. community threads - NHL, auto, cycle etc.). Those threads were pretty much the only threads I posted on in Old GAF in the years leading up to the break up, and they really don't have a remaining equivalent here. But with COVID19, a lot of those are of kind of dead anyways. I generally avoid the rest of the forum because its no fun being dog piled on and banned for simply having an unpopular opinion.

General GAF is generally a more comfortable/better place to post. I think I've posted more since the breakup due to less fear of being banned for saying something stupid or unpopular, but that fear isn't completely gone. I do wish moderators would communicate more and make it more transparent re: what is permissible and what is not. I had a warning a few months ago (?maybe a year) on one of my posts, and it was really vague and unclear why. I'm pretty sure my posting slowed down after that, and really only picked up after COVID. I do think the fear of being banned stifles a lot of content on these forums, and the best way to do that (short of just not banning people) is to be extremely transparent and clear with what is allowed and what is not.

Like any tool, it's all in how you use it.
It was a godsent when GFAQs finally added the feature in 2007 or so. Small communities could just unilaterally put obvious trolls on ignore and they are effectively dealt with.

Why did ResetERA dox a Japanese band? Did they get a pronoun wrong or something? Surely, ResetEra recognizes this behavior is wrong.. although the music in Ys 8 was kind of disappointing.. maybe that's the reason?

I also wonder about the transgender person Dave Chapelle talked about in his recent Netflix concert. She took her own life but always defended Chapelle, in fact, she was constantly being harassed by transgender rights people who felt they should speak for everyone.
 
There was a period when GAF was basically dead that ResetEra was better for gaming news discussion.

Now GAF's back and it's impossible to avoid the retardation at ResetEra, even in the gaming section. No need to visit that shit hole, it's a plague on the whole industry at this point.

Yeah I agree, I have 2 people on ignore and they are both just massive politics section trolls if I couldn't filter their low effort shit posting in there it would be very disappointing

God, that thread was the most disgusting piece of crap I ever read. Even a mod was mocking him over his suicide. Massive amount of people mocking...if they ever got banned was not because of their shit attitude. It was because the nazi mods were afraid of being target of heavy criticism.

To be fair, Trump does suck and as a result America isn't the shining beacon it once was. But I can agree with the rest, at least we can get a discussion here.
 
Overall, Resetera has the better content with gaming discussions being quite robust and very very interesting at times. But anything political or racial is a shot show there. I am left leaning democrat but even I have my limits. Most recently they claimed that liking Barrett in the new final fantasy was considered rascist. That thread now had several people banned even for saying one liners like "I disagree and thought Barrett was well done" boom 2 months ban. I mean that is some bull shit. I didn't even bother posting.


That being said, politically I have more in common with them then I do with the deplorables of Trump, way more. But at least in this forum I can call the deplorable an idiot and move on with my life without worrying about being banned.

TL;DR: fuck Trump, but at least I can have that opinion here and not be banned!

Getting banned from any community is super sad. Especially since you can't explain to someone in real-time after the fact when trying to appeal. They just take your email appeal or whatever and you hope they interpret what you're saying correctly.

I'm sure here the community has a little more freedom as to what they can say without getting destroyed so I'll go with GAF.
