Most people didnt know how the SSD contritubtes to INCREASE in graphic fidelity/details. This was not explained properly by Mark with no tech demo to visualize. This demo clearly does. I wish Sony would have done it earlier.

XSX would do fine, I'm sure. In a freezeframe and zoom situation, the PS5 likely shows more detail in a high-speed sequence. In motion, the speed of the sequence acts as solid cover for lowering distant LOD. I think MS will have some beautiful things to show as well, both the next gen systems will be beasts IMO.

Only one company was going to get to be the first to show this demo, and Sony is the primary marketing partner.

And SX has shown real gameplay of Gears 5 running like it would on a 2080, wherease PS still hasn't shown a real game at all

Assuming bon meant but, having as SSD makes it have solid performance, and NVMe should make it be next level. NVMe is what both XSX and PS5

They did not specifically claim this tech demo is only possible on PS5.

"So, when GPU load gets high we can lower the screen resolution a bit and then we can adapt to that. In the demo we actually did use dynamic resolution, although it ends up rendering at about 1440p most of the time."

Penwarden also confirms that the temporal accumulation system seen in Unreal Engine 4 - which essentially adds detail from prior frames to increase resolution in the current one - is also used in UE5 and in this demo. The transparency here from Epic is impressive. We've spent a long time poring over a range of 3840x2160 uncompressed PNG screenshots supplied by the firm. They defy pixel-counting, with resolution as a metric pretty much as meaningless as it is for, say, a Blu-ray movie.

These graphics are going to come at a cost, but I'm fine with games running at 1440p

There was a thread from a gaffer that made it very clear, but yeah, terrible comunication from Sony until 30 minutes ago.

I am sure him and many other gaffers gave plenty of great explanations. Its hard to visualize those explanations, a real time tech demo demonstrating SSD capabilities was needed during the time of PS5 reveal by Mark Cerny.

All those polygons are the result of the SSD removing a bottleneck. That level of density isn't possible in real-time with a HDD.

The idea that an SSD makes graphics better has been scoffed at for ages, but there are scenarios where it allows for more when the horsepower is available.. Time for some crow naysayers.

Ssd does not render graphics. Exact same demo could be done on pc with a standard hdd. It would just need adequate ram.

If you want 60fps then you have to build an expensive PC. Unfortunately, as powerful as these consoles get. Devs will always prefer to push the envelope with regards to visual fidelity than pure performance. For masses, better looking visuals are a bigger deal than more frames.

Sweeney not saying something isn't possible this not the same as Sweeney saying that it is possible.

It is funny that the company that only used UE in one game has the marketing deal vs. the company that is using UE for almost every single 1st party title and isn't even allowed to be talked about because of said marketing deal.

For all the Phil Spencer has said over the years his commitment to high framerates, I think on the GB couch last year or so, had me the happiest. Sony has had unbelievable success with 30fps and I don't expect that to change.

Unless it's a shooter or racing game console devs tend to go for higher image quality than framerate, so 30fps it is. I can't fucking imagine what Polyphony Digital will bring to the table.

The PS5 theoretically can throw denser models and more textures around... at double the speed. But is it realistic to expect considering what that does to game size? I really really REALLY want to know how big file size was that demo was, and if to realistically get the game built like that on PS5 they'd have to lower the triangle count anyways.

because there is a difference between streaming in 2.4 GB/s (Series X) of data vs streaming in 5.5 GB/s (PS5), that's double the I/O. The devs could pull it of on Series X but they'll need to a lot workarounds and tricks with the data streaming where as the PS5 would be able to handle it on the hardware level. We already heard so many people say the PS5 will able to pull of games which just won't be possible on Series X and PC's. This is just good speculation on part and it makes sense, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.
