My guess: PS5 will have faster load times than XSX, but it won't make much of a difference in practice (2 vs 4 seconds). In actual games, we probably aren't going to see anything revolutionary (maybe one title that excessively utilizes it). The TF difference might come in handy when ray tracing.

Yep, this is how I feel. Booting up the PS4 was fast enough. Sitting through long load screens - like Death Stranding - was fine. I really don't think that these fast loads will make gaming as an experience better. In fact, load screens are a nice way to zone out sometimes as I enjoy playing games while attending to other areas of my life - like having a whizz or texting my dad because it's been three days since I replied.

It makes sense in a PC because it's much, much better booting up an OS quickly.

Well your obviously avoiding what i meant, the games that were shown last night didn't look like the power of the SSD was being fully utilised so can the Xbox series x produce games with streaming textures as good and loading sections with similar timings

Ratchet & Clank utilizes SSD. But no one knows how much data transfers is needed for these types of transitions and how XSX could handle it. Even if XSX does the LoFi transition and next second it twists into HiFi - I think not so many users even notice it.

But I also think, that also there will not be so many differences the other way. MS fans touting 12TF and how it will crash PS5. Sony fanboys touting super fast SSD.

All of it is nonsense. No console will show dramatically more graphically powerful games by its own.

But....I trust Sony studios much more then those undr MS studios brand. Sony studios have much greater credit. They could push PS4Pro with 4,2TF further than MS studios could do with 6TF. I dont see reason there will be much difference here, where percentage difference is even lower.

So please stop arguing which one will be better if some has secret sauce or some teraflop stronger gpu. It doesnt matter, they both have great gpus, great ssds, great custom chips. Its up to studios now.

I wish both PS and MS fans great games on their machines. And PC players lot of games from both camps wink wink :-)
 
What did you expect? You can see better resolution and fps in multiplattformers, but the SSD? There will be many threads saying "wow, this and that would not be possible on a SXS", but this will most likely be an exclusive game thing only and you don't have a comparison for those. Besides this the XSX SSD is very fast too.
 
The event confirmed what anyone with common sense already knew..... very minimal loading. No graphic fidelity boost or anything else. You still need a gpu and a cpu. I know.... how ironic.

That we don't know yet. So far MS hasn't showed any gameplay that couldn't run on a Xbox one. Personally I don't think its so much about the hardware, it's more about MS's strategy to make all their exclusives cross gen for the first 2 years. This'll probably mean that Halo Infinite will run fine on Xbox One, just a bit better on Series X. But they wouldn't be able to do stuff like instantly zipping through different levels as we've seen in Ratchet & Clank, when their games also need to run from a HDD.

well..there was the hype that the speedss of ps5 SSD is needed, to keep feeding super high quality assets that can it be rendered...always in sight, always no lod loss. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I can imagine hitman Deathloop and the housmarque game benefiting from instant loading.
 
We literally saw a game where you jump through portals to other dimensions in real time with no loading screens.
Some people are really grasping at straws here.

Most of these games looked absolutely spectacular, and on a marketing note alone, it was a much stronger showing for PS5 than anything MS has put out for the XSX.

As a pc user, the series x doesn't seem fast. The One X however seems slow as fuck.

Literally 20 minutes before your post there was another one which shows that in fact R&C has loading screens.

And that is where the point is missed.

The 1st party exclusives Sony make play to their strengths. MS will do the same with theirs - some day.


So it's impossible to compare like with like. 3rd parties are where the comparisons can be drawn.

So far, 3rd party games are identical on both. I anticipate it will remain that way through the gen.


If you really must try to get an idea of what R+C would look like on Xsex then do 2 things - squint so the geometry and textures look a little blurry to account for less VRAM, and during the portal parts - pause the video, wait 2 seconds, then unpause. That's what the Xsex version would be like.

For one thing, those are not loading screens, as the game evidently does not cut to black and loads, you're still playing it.
For another thing, that's a peak transition of about 7s to load a completely different area in real time.
In the trailer they showed immediately before, that transition is as short as 1,5 seconds.
Even the worst case scenario is a gigantic leap over anything possible at the moment.

Furthermore, as we already know from Cerny's talk, developers might have to slow down transitions for them to make sense to the player. In R&C's case, for them to get ready for the unexpected of a dimesion swap, which we've seen also comes with a gameplay change (railing to flying to shooting for example).

I know it's difficult to comprehend that a 15% tflops advantage isn't getting the Xsex an actual res or FPS advantage.

But that's how the tech works. Much like a 9gb/s transfer rate is 100% faster than Xsex.

The results speak for themselves.

You can quickly imagine what R+C would be like xsex - just pause the video for 2seconds every time they pass a portal lol

Basically inciting console wars and taking the piss out of the PS5 supposed 9Tfps (In fact its over 10TFPS) compared to Xbox's 12 TFPs.
Wonder if those blatantly biased and inciting threads got flagging for inciting console wars mods???

Point is Xbox show came up and all the games looked kinda same gen.... and no gameplay

All the ssd does it make the PS5 10TPS machine run much closer to a 12TFP machine and load much faster.

It looks amazing regardless, whereas xbox games have yet to show anything decent gameplay wise.

So there gonna look an awful lot like each other, whether you think its 12TPFs vs 9 or 10. But the PS5 speeds will be much better

Something not being possible on a hdd doesn't make a specific ssd secret sauce.

It's like saying a blu ray is secret sauce because it capable of more data and faster speed than a DVD.

I'm surprised people are pointing to The Medium as something to refute what Ratchet & Clank did in the reveal. Unless there's been something new released under the radar not seen yet for The Medium, not sure how you can compare an in-engine cinematic trailer to actual gameplay...

The Medium was only a cinematic trailer, where the protagonist switches from where they are to a more dilapidated, but very similar looking place.
The protagonist also conveniently gets a headache and can't move while this transition happens.

Curious to see how it ends up in game, but it was nowhere near as impressive.

This is 30fps feels more cinematic levels of bad. Really. Loading screens a good thing?
 
People have to remember that the games which were shown are in development since years.The first rumors of PS5 had Vega cards in them because there were no rdna 1 card,let alone the customized rdna 2 card what the PlayStation5 will have with all the rest of the architecture.It is normal that games on moving and changing hardware will not look their best.Playstation always surpassed the demos that were shown at the start of the Console.PS3 surpassed fast the actor demo,PS4 surpassed the sorcerer demo really fast,also the elemental demo.The same will be with the unreal engine demo.In 2-3 years the first party studios will be there also studios like Capcom and Square Enix..The games from Square Enix and Guerilla looked already amazing absolutely next gen..You have to be patient.
