Halo Infinite | Campaign Gameplay Premiere – 8 Minute Demo

I'm very surprised to see this game having pop in. It totally looks like a game I can easily play on my One X.

Personally, I thought the showing was alright, but it's definitely is rough around the edges...

You could watch this cutscene 20 times and never notice this. The water is rough, but that other stuff is on screen for like one frame. There's other much better stuff to pick on lol.

Looks like a game they wanted to make for Xbox One, but then were told they need to bring this to Series X. Just like Gran Turismo 7... difference being that Halo Infinite will still release on Xbox One, while GT7 won't come out on PS4.

But I don't get the disappointment tbh... it was well communicated before and a cross gen game will be a cross gen game.

Love this series, watched this and felt hyped, but at the same time, disappointed.

Was really expecting to be wowed visually. Looks very subpar. I've been playing MCC lately, and far out Halo 3 looks so much better.
At the same time, I get this is now open-world, expansive (so that say) and really aiming for that 4K60fps.
There's no doubt running it on Xbone has held it back, no question there. The E3 trailer from last year with the "in engine" footage was really nice, and i think it set expectations that have absolutely fallen flat.
We're also told the XSeX is so powerful, best graphics, fast SSD, never see a pop-in/loading benefits, yet from the get go grass popping in left, right and centre and rendering artifacts after leaving the map. Not a biggy, but just proves and shows this was made for Xbone and XSeX has been shoe-horned. Not to mention the ray-tracing update coming later.... To me, I want to play the campaign at it's best visually, which I thought would be on XSeX day-one. Seems not, seems I'll have to wait for this "future" update before I jump in to next gen.

Halo Infinite has been built entirely on our new Slipspace Engine, which was designed from the ground up to serve as the foundation for the future of the franchise. The technical enhancements of the Slipspace Engine are too extensive to truly get into here, but one callout is how we are now able to pack in 10 times the processing per pixel, creating the most visually rich game we've ever made to go with the most open and expansive environment to appear in a Halo game

Yeah... no.

At the end of the day, I will get this as I'm invested in the franchise and enjoy them. And ultimately, if the gameplay is tight - I'll enjoy it.

I'm sure the game will play great, i just expected more from the visual department, I've accepted how it looks.

I do like the fact going off the gameplay we've seen they've at least reach the standard. I was happy to see equipment back just like in Halo 3 and i can't wait to see even more equipment that diversifies the sandbox. Multiplayer is going to be fantastic with the equipment use.

Like i watched it a few times and saw that you can pick up fusion coils and throw them without having to use the grappling hook. That was pretty cool to me.

I'm afraid for this GAAS model but I get it, they can add story/chapters over time kinda like destiny I guess. I play destiny but I would've been fine without the model in place for halo.

Hopefully, they can keep up with the demand the fans clamor for during Halo infinities reign.

I watched it one time and noticed it...

Like I said, I thought it was alright. Although the presentation is rough, considering this is meant to be the AAA showcase for a next-gen console.

is it me or the facial animations of the bearded guy are strangely accelerated when he talk?
yeah something is off. Tbh The Last of us 2 really fucking spoiled me man.,
it's zelda botw all over again...

my main gripe with halo atm is the lighting of everything.. and the sterile look and lack of different looking locations.

Looked like a giant meh to me. I don't know. Nothing jumped out to me. I look back on something like Arkham Knight, and that game looked awesome then. And still looks great today. I know these are two completely different games and crossgen and blah blah. But I'm still expecting to be blown away, and it's just not happening.

Waiting for someone to show me an open world 4K 60fps console game that looks better.
Dude, semi open world. Check the map, also there is an image depicting the gameplay area shown in the demo. It os a fucking flying square platform. Not a really open world.this game needs to run in the xbone as well.

Got, rdr2 and tlou2 look better.

What I watched was pretty good in my eyes. I know they hyped up the engine and graphics, but that was the least of my focus on it as I mostly play a lot of B/C tier games anyway so the visual fidelity is enough for a cross-gen launch title. I just wanted to see if Halo was back to being... fun Halo after 4 and 5 and it looks like it is. Reminded me of the old trilogy, as well. I'm glad it's releasing on Windows so that I don't have to invest in an extra console for it.

Pretty much. It's what I expected as soon as it was confirmed cross gen... especially for an open world/large zone title.

We always knew this was a current gen game. Still, I thought it would look better on Xbox Series X than this. It just doesn't look or feel very sharp. There's a hint of classic Halo there, but to me that seems overshadowed by a big wall of a blandness.

I mean I thought this game was like Microsoft's BotW. And that's it?

Well this is a stupid game right from the get go. In the first cut scene the guy says "we're out gunned and out numbered". Well fuck, what exactly is MC supposed to do? Spawn an army out of his ass? Feels like a waste of time to me. I don't like those odds at all.

Just to clear something up. Pop-In has more to do with the engine the game is running on than how fast your SSD is.

Games have had pop-in for many many years on console and playing that exact game on a PC with the fastest NVMe drive available will NOT remove that pop-in. It'll still be there. If the game has a slider to allow you to move the distance when detail pops in, then you can adjust that but that's the best you're gonna get.

You can't take a PC from 2020 and play a game from 2005 and expect the pop-in to magically go away. Sadly it doesn't work that way. Sometimes with ini tweaks or mods you can push the line where detail pops in far enough away that you functionally can remove pop-in.

To truly end pop-in we need ( a fast SSD ) and improvements at the engine level. Like Unreal Engine 5 Nanite or some other similar solution.

And also, that was JUST A TECH DEMO that we saw. Will be interesting to see how well Nanite truly works when applied to real multiplatform games.

LOL is that sarcasm? I can't tell?

We're talking about playing a video game where the setup is you are the HERO and have to face a more powerful enemy. The odds are against you. You're outnumbered and outgunned. It's time to rise to the occasion, to become the HERO ... But what do YOU do? ....

"Feels like a waste of time to me. I don't like those odds at all." Mommy :messenger_anxious:

Nope, they shouldn't have revealed the odds until later, certainly not in the reveal trailer. Why would anyone buy a game that doesn't even let you progress the first stage? Absurd.

so, the hex structures will prolly shift in real time?

trying to analyze what we've been given, hard to tell what's going on ...

The visuals look generic, flat and downright ugly even for a supposed cartoony art style.

Is it just me or parts of the environment look like it's crafted in Minecraft?

Yeah graphics are bad. Good god are they bad. But they are already 10x more than what I need since I only play PvP. I want DEM FRAMES!

I have to say, I watch the 4K feed of it and while its not pushing any graphical boundaries whatsoever, it really is pretty in motion. I do have one big issue though and I think it's sticks out like a sore thumb, the goddamn trees look so Halo 3. In a few days it will be easier to accept that this game was designed for Xbox one first and foremost. Once they start sharing more about the game and dropping info I can see Halo gaining some it's hype back.

Considering they seem to think the cgi trailers shown were gameplay, they are in for a disappointment.

I mean console wars are dumb as fuck but Sony has always come very close to hitting their visual target. I'd say most of their 1st party set visual benchmarks every time they release.

You can criticize something while still being a fan, don't be a warrior for a plastic box you had no input or investment in.

Looks like people overhyped themselves and/or also the forum is overrun by Sony fanboys. It looks like a good time to me and the graphics are great.

I might blow your mind here but people can be critical of something and still enjoy it or look forward to it. It's not a love it or hate it type situation. HALO infinite did not look next gen or do/show anything that couldn't be done on current hardware.

I'm still gonna play the shit out of it and probably have a good time, that doesn't mean I have to ignore the negatives and pretend it's a perfect package, cause it wasn't.

Yeah, the whole internet is saying it though, not just gaf.

You're not blowing anyone's mind. The problem is people thought that Halo would blow their minds when it's a cross gen title. it's an Xbox One game that's optimized for X series X by giving it 4K 60 frames per second and ray tracing. Like I said, overhyped themselves.

I think that's a stretch. Saying everyone was expecting to be blown away that didn't like it visually. I wasn't expecting much and was still disappointed.

It definitely doesn't even look current gen, especially that we are at the very tail end of current gen. If this didn't have the Halo name, this would be a garbage B grade game. I can't believe people are defending it for being a lower quality stream which has nothing to do with how bad it looks, you can obviously tell things like the hit animations etc is all very old and bland looking. the graphical fidelity is so sub par. The cut scenes are also really last gen.

Ok, link us a current gen 4k 60 fps open world game that looks better on a console. The only thing I can think of is Gears 5 and it's not really open world. You want people to stop defending it, then quit with the hyperbole.

Why do you want a link to a current gen game, this is a next gen game we are talking about?

And what does that have to do with how bad Halo looks, so you're saying that any open world game for next gen has to sacrifice looking like that for 60fps? Get out of here with that crap. You are truly clutching at straws. Do you know the difference between graphical fidelity and graphical resolution. It sounds like you don't.

Ever heard of Spiderman: Miles Morales..? I'm pretty sure the dynamic 4K 60fps mode is going to look a little better than that buddy LOL

You are talking to a guy who owns a One X.. I'm not delusional like some.

5 years I've waited for this fucking reveal, 5 fucking years. Who the fuck is running this shit show, I'm done with 343 and I'm done with Xbox. They have no idea what they're doing. FIVE YEARS IN DEVELOPMENT, for these SHIT graphics. Amateur level work from an amateur level company. They dare try and bait us in with the last 2 stellar trailers to pull this dog shit out. Delay the game it's done Microsoft lost
PS5 and PC are where its at. If Nintendos your thing the switch is solid. Xbox is the black sheep.

You claimed it looks last gen or at least not as good as current gen. That is hyperbolic. You may be talking art style cause HI is a match for what we've seen of Spiderman tech wise. You like the look of it more, that's it

And I never claimed those sacrifices needed to be made for next gen. Maybe for 343 and the fact that it IS a current gen game, lol

lol this was always a XB1 game first and foremost and it looks great. Should play well and smooth at 60 fps. Very excited to play it.

Looks like they showed off an old build to showcase the gameplay tbh

Gameplay looks awesome fwiw

I'm hoping its more polished at the time of release, very much so

I wonder how much better things would have gone, if Microsoft told us to expect an enhanced Xbox One port?

That seems to be their problem. They're always hyping things way out of proportion, even content to straight-up lie, righg up to the day before something is revealed to be the complete opposite.

I mean... do they think people aren't going to find out, or something?

Pretty much. When Spiderman comes out hopefully someone puts it in 4K 60 mode and captures the face of some random goon enemy so we can see just how much effort was put into that model's face.

microsoft needs to learn from the masters

That's incredible. The difference there was Half-Life 2 was revolutionary in physics, Halo doesn't have anything like that. Not even one standout feature they can really show off. At best it might measure up to past games. Maybe.

Lol, nice response. You want people to not defend Halo but you're being needlessly harsh calling it a last-gen effort. What do you expect? Also you can't produce an FPS that's current gen that looks as good as this, runs at 4k 60 and features split screen co-op. Like I said it's technically a current gen game just optimized for XSX. People expecting next gen graphics from cross gen games are as dumb as the ones expecting the cross gen games from PS3 to PS4 to look like TLOU2. Logic. Use it.

How was your hands on with the game?
