Microsoft declares the console war "over" because they have a different vision for the future, in which all consoles thrive in some type of ecosystem with Gamepass, etc.
Everyone talks about how Lockheart will hold back next-gen, but it seems to be the whole "cross-gen" is what will really do it.
I like the Xbox--in terms of growth, they really came a long way since Don Mattrick nearly destroyed them back in 2013, resulting in Sony burning them so badly that I didn't think they'd ever recover.
It feels eerily similar here, if not as severe yet. Streaming is still a tough technology to fully embrace. My family lives in a rural area now and all that is available is a basic DSL services. It somewhat suffices, but lacks severely for that. I'm sure I'm not the only one now in this situation.
If I want big boy internet, I was told I have to pay a fairly large sum for someone to run a line out here.

NOT trying to offend you at all but i don't see how anyone even remotely into technology these days can survive living in an area with little to no internet bandwidth... DSL and satellite obviously don't cut it.
I get wanting to live in a rural area as i live outside of the city in the woods beside a large lake but we still have gig internet available if we want it and it isn't too expensive.
If i were you i would pony up and run that line and fully enjoy not living in the rate race city.

- You build a great console, 12TF, no boost mode, sustained power, good SSD, good architecture.
- You have been buying studios for the future in order to compete with Sony.
- You have 343I working for 5 years
- You have a lot of money to buy another Ryse son of Rome.
Show something great for XSX and sell Gamepass too...
I don't see why is that hard to do both things.

Maybe this is exactly what they've done but they're waiting until mid-end of August to roll out the rest of the pieces and tell their underdog story about how Halo was needing so much work but with the power of the new console/dev kits and the new tools they created they were able to quickly and efficiently right the ship and make the game look amazing.
Ha wishful thinking... but would be crazy if something like that happened.

Alex's eagle eye was pretty keen when he immediately observed that GT7's RT reflections were being rendered at half resolution, but for a blurry soup like Halo Infinite and low res imagery all in the immediate camera view, he notices nothing else but "it's the lighting dawg"...

No, no. I'm not offended at all. I'm absolutely going to pay to run that line. Where I am has been this way for years. It wasn't until the very late 90s, around 2000 that DSL even became available.
What's more aggravating is the company who wants the fee for the broadband states on their website all of the town is covered, i including our area, yet we're not.

Can invest millions in GamePass titles that are only for XSX when the install base isn't going to be there yet? If they have 10m subs on X1 and say 2m of those shift to XSX in the first six months how can they justify moving most of the budget to XSX games?

Yep, I consider myself a Sony fan because of their first party games, and I was devastated watching that conference. The fact that none of their big AAA next gen games got even a realtime trailer showed me just how far behind they really are.
TBH, I have come around on Halo. it looks terrible but it does so because its so goddamn ambitious with its 60 open world game design on this 1.3 tflops gpu they put out this gen. The rest of the conference was utterly abysmal because not only were they not running on xsx, they werent even games. they are CGi renderers created by hollywood studios. technically, those first party studios produced nothing. And the forza guys produced an in-engine trailer like hellblade 2. everwild isnt even a game yet.
This hurts as a fan of games. I really truly believe that we need a microsoft to keep sony in check. I dont want complacent or arrogant sony to return. i want them to have competition but MS is going out of their way to not compete. how the fuck do you announce your Project Scarlett at E3 2018, announce acquisition of like 9 studios, and then two years later show up with cgi trailers? how incompetent can you be?
I am one of those idiots who buys any new piece of hardware because its shiny and new. I bought the xone despite shitting on it for months and bought the x1x despite having zero need for it. i wouldve bought the xsx, but now? whats the point if real first party games wont be out for 3 years? i might as well wait and buy the mid gen xsx.
With Nintendo pretty much being 3 gens behind, MS had the opportunity to really be pro-consumer and show us what those trillion dollars can do when it comes to investing in risky first party adventures. This conference showed they did not invest in any of the studios they acquired. someone told me that state of decay has 60 devs which means they have hired 0 people in the last two years. so what was the point of announcing these acquisitions if the plan wasnt to turn them into AAA first party studios? just to get some more marketing buzz and pats on the back from timdog and co?

lol...i will buy ps5, but later - mid gen, I do it every gen, I have had every PlayStation console starting with ps one, I own PS4 pro and use for Sony exclusives only, I even own ps vita, still have my ps2 and owned 2 PSPs previously (my PS3 was gifted to some kids in my family couple years ago), all of these with lots of games, so I am heavily invested in Sony ecosystem as Well, And yes. I own Xbox one x and a gaming pc, but Xbox is by far the most used gaming machine in my household, but I do play on everything, I recently repurchased games cube as there are some Nintendo games that I love to play. It Is not all black and white.
I played PS4 Spider-Man for like 30 minutes, still have it but cannot force myself to play, Horizon, I have got a copy but haven't played it yet, as it is not one of those games that I feel urge to play, I will play when I have got some spare time (which in my case is a luxury), I am not a big fan of sim racers, so GT doesn't appeal to me, one of my favourite Sony exclusives is WipeOut, it is my personal taste in games, and based on that Sony event wasnt appealing to me, the games their shown are not exciting for me. They have not shown one game during their event that would make me buy PS5 day one. It is my personal taste.
Re. your question, there are multiple reasons, but if I have to list some, these would be;
I tend to play mostly 3rd party games, thus I prefer more powerful hardware (I play on 4K since circa 2017)
I have Game Pass Ultimate subscription and lots of digital purchases across Xbox generations
I prefer xbox game pad

They are doing both, but they only acquired most of these studios in the past few years. Games now are takeing 5-6 yrs. Ask sony about that.

I loved Days Gone. A top 5 game for me this gen. My wife told me I’m nuts, but I think I might have liked it even more than God of War. This was the golden age of Sony exclusives. I bought every single release and completed them all. I used 3rd party games as filler between releases, with a few exceptions.
