$499 isn't "sticker shock" or negative news. It is arguably most likely what these consoles will cost for a disc version.
$599, however, is a major yikes in this economy no matter who slaps that price on it.

Definitely not more than $499 if Sony is still sticking to it's narrative about wanting to 1) for the PS5 to have the fastest adoption rate ever, and 2) for selling 10 million PS5 by March 2021. As for the XB Series X, Phil Spencer has already said that they will not be beaten in power nor price, so the most expensive XB Series X should be around $499 as well. Personally, if Sony is true to their words, I'm still expecting the PS5 disk version to come in at $449, which represents a tremendous value, giving Sony the possibility to meet their 10 million sales estimate in a very short 4-month window.

How many devs will build a Rolls Royce befitting the high end if the low end Toyota is the primary seller?
We need to understand that most devs will build the Toyota for the majority, and token bolt on a nicer stereo and call it a premium model for the higher end.
For example if XsS can't do raytracing - how many devs will invest into implementing optimised solutions for the tech? Time is money, money is business, games are a product of business.
