Personally I don't know any unhappy xbox user with what microsoft has proposed. Instead, I've spoken to few friends that usually dont jump in day1, and S makes it possible for them to do so. And all those getting the X, none was unhappy nor concerned. the contrary.

Rx 5500 xt which is very similar to XSS (22 CU, minus RT engines) seems to have only one Shader Engine but how does this translate to half polygon throughput exactly, is it because having less rasterizer blocks?

Lots of hide and seek plus puzzles plus some action.
But its the production valeu the story and how it all works well together.
Its a shame to miss out on this. Like you said it fits in perfect with sony first party titles.
Its a solid 14 hour game and also an easy platinum.
I really hope for a sequel it will be an insta buy from me

They have to hit 499$ with one of the SKUs. There's no way the PS5s BOM is alot higher than the XSXs. I could be wrong about that but I'm not seeing what would inflate the cost so much.

Exactly, that why I lean more to $449-$499. Take a small loss on the BD and a not so big loss on the DE. I would even say sell the BD version for $549 to steer people to buy the DE at $449 to make the big bucks on the PSN store.

If you think MS has somehow forced Sony, the overwhelming market leader in this space, over a barrel, you go ahead, bruh.
But it's pretty obvious Sony had this dual machine setup for as long as MS did. Sony just decided not to try and make a Nintendo competitor box and is doing their own thing. Make no mistake, Microsoft has a serious danger here of having the low end cannibalize their high end market. And GamePass is not strong enough yet on it's own to let them be healthy if that happens.We'll see how it all pans out, of course. Should be interesting. Maybe the market WILL go all in for the low end and forget about 4k graphics and all of that. That would definitely be a major tectonic shift in the market if that happens and if it does, MS should be well positioned.
As things stand right now though...MS is the one in a worse position and that's because of the games. MS has already HAD the lower priced console AND the higher powered one as well and it didn't help them in sales. But markets are funny about having the right COMBINATION of products and goods...who knows...maybe things will change! Should be some good times ahead for gamers even if that DOES happen as it will take at least several years to pan out.

- Spider-Man Miles Morales gameplay trailer and/or gameplay demo.
- Another Godfall trailer.
- Maybe something COD related,maybe some exclusive content.
- GTA Online on PS5.
- Given how Game Informer got some exclusive coverage for Kena on PS5 this week, maybe they'll show some gameplay of it.
- Demon's Souls, Returnal, Sackboy, Horizon FW, Destruction All Stars and GT7 release dates and/or release windows.
- Surprise big game reveal (God of War? Silent Hill? FFXVI?).
- Console price, release date and pre orders.
Any other ideas?

I'll copy-paste this in here too seeing as I spent a while jotting it down. And this is a more frequented thread:
XSX is $499 and has 52CUs with a 320-bit bus on the APU, PS5 has an APU with 36CUs and a 256-Bit bus. Smaller wafers will be much cheaper, higher peak clock requirements will reduce relative yield, but based on what we know of RDNA2, I expect this to fare very well still (and don't forget Sony will be forecast to purchase far more silicon, further reducing per unit cost).
Both systems have the same mount of RAM (albeit with a slightly different density/layout, but ~same mem chip clocks). Sony have more chips in their on-board SSD (albeit with lower overall capacity), but the individual chips should actually be clocked a good bit slower than the ones in the XSX, negating a little of the cost. The real special sauce is in the I/O, layout and presumably, software stack.
The APU, RAM & to some degree, SSD, will be by far the most expensive components in each box and primary indicators of the bom. Sony are also the market leaders with a very high attach rate and enormous revenues in network services. They can take a loss on their consoles, in fact I'd argue that they're in a better position than they've ever been to do so. I wouldn't expect PS2 levels of up front hardware losses (>$150) or god forbid, PS3 levels (~$250)...

Evidently, they can, they have enormous revenue from this sector and people are still throwing plenty of money at them, albeit in smaller, more frequent chunks. What people are actually resistant too is large singular purchases (such as a new flagship console) because they see the giant chunk of money leaving their hands in one go. Subsequently, releasing a cheaper console is more conducive to this fact; and Sony wouldn't do it because they being charitable but because it improves sentiment around the brand, will increase sales, brings more people into the eco system and further increases that stream of smaller but more reliable income that people are all too happy to hand over.
Now the bom / end to end cost may very well be higher and/or Sony may just price it higher and take the money and run because they feel they can. But the idea that because stuff and things, they're no longer in a position to make losses on hardware upfront just seems so ill thought it. Even if they chose not to, they're absolutely in a better position to do so than ever.
Edit: As mentioned before, I also think $399 / $449 is the Goldilocks zone between the XSS and XSX. An extra 33% vs MS' digital console for 150% more power, 60% more ram, 60% more storage etc. While also undercutting MS' big boy by $50 negating the 20% raw compute advantage, offering faster I/O and arguably a far stronger lineup.
In addition, you get one console in at that magic $399 price point, while also having another at $449 which offers more value and acts to gently get people used to the idea of PlayStations in the $400-$500 range in the future (Pro variations, PS6 etc.); as it is arguably getting more and more expensive to achieve this sort of performace with tech limitations and inflation; and price increases will ultimately be inevitable over time.

I think it's way more about the ecosystem rather than just the hardware. Like you say, for some people, GamePass is THE SHIT, and they get good value from it. Not a surprise. Bottom line, Microsoft's "Xbox as a platform" strategy has some serious wins in it for those gameers. Playing the game you buy ONCE on your new Xbox, the old one you give to the kids (or something) as well as your mobile phone has some really cool points to it. Just remains to see how much developers adopt it and what Microsoft can start producing now that they've decided not to exit the game development market. People who have the new Series X will start seeing things to really show it off here about 2022-23 and I don't think they'll be disappointed.

Yeah, yeah, some Xbox games were only 900p or whatever instead of 1080p. Nobody could even see the difference without DF and my Xbox owning friends were just fine. sure, they had a plan for it, I mean, it launched with very good games, and anybody can tell you that titanfall 1 was THE nextgen shit to play for many many months. also that insomniac game I dont remember the name now, honesty, probably is their best game ever. spiderman doesnt even hold a candle to that. pure fun open world shenanigans.
BUT, the dirt was out, so no sales, therefore no more funding games, and replanning instead. they were stupid to envy nintendo's success with wii, plain and simple.
market has a lot of space for everyone to do their own thing, not copy. microsoft had an impeccable record of bringing out the strongest machine. they fucked it up with xbone. they quickly (ie with the same gen) made up with scorpio though, which still is a fantastic piece of toy, and from what I understand they are keeping high on that stride with the new X
