I do feel like Sony has to respond to Microsoft's absolute MEGATON bomb drop.

How do they respond? Do they make offers for:

Rockstar Games? Gearbox? THQ? Raven? Bungie? 3drealms? Or stay content?

I doubt they will do anything. They dont have the same money to splash like MS And MS needs it a whole lot More than Playstation at the moment. They have zero launch games and the future wasn't looking great For them.

Sony needs to Just knuckle down on more exclusives, not timed exclusives.

Buying Konami and Namco would be big lol

They have to?

From these the only I wish to have on PS side is Take 2 (Rockstar)... they have money to buy them but I don't believe they will do it or even Take 2 is open to be sold.

No way, Sony spend those billions. Sony and Nintendo can't face MS with acquisitions. Even MS Im sure will have to make games on PS5 if they want to get returned that money (even so Im not sure they could get returned that money).

Take Two would be hilarious, but I don't see them making any large acquisition anytime soon.

But I didn't expect MS acquiring Zenimax, so who knows?

I always find these over reaction threads amusing. As long as Sony has strong 1st party games, they will be a force to be reckoned with. They need to do what they do best, they don't NEED to respond.

I don't think Sony has the kind of money that bought Bethesda just laying around.
they might not have as much as 7B to spend on studios, but they could still buy some big publishers, PS is one of Sony's core pillars now, I imagine they will be proactive in purchases if they feel the need to be

Continue to invest into 1st party only. Build up 1st party til the cows come home.
Let the industry consolidate without them getting involved, why should they care, its the gamer that will pay more in the end.

Bungie would be the biggest slap in the face haha, but I don't think they would be big enough. Warner Brothers? Square Enix? Rockstar is too big. I wouldn't want their games exclusive anyway. Seems wrong.

Even if they do if either company makes any existing franchises console exclusive all of us as gamers lose out.

The odd IP here and there isn't too bad but anything more and were only losing reasons to play not gaining them.

They need to keep releasing good first party games and making deals with 3rd parties. Also, they don't have that much money for acquisitions.

I hate to break this to you. Sony probably doesnt have the money. back in 2017 they sold off stuff like spirderman merchising rights just to keep going. They are not in that bad of a situation now but I don't know if they are brimming with investment money either.

but also the MS deal will more than likely not effect games going to PS.

They don't.

MS are still launching a console without any big games, and unless they sell units they'll still have to support PS5 with all these studio acquisitions, it wouldn't be financially viable to just make Xbox exclusives if it sells as poorly as last gen.

They need to buy a company with a very big legacy. They've already bedded Kojima who's one of the biggest legacy wise. Id have to say Capcom or Square Enix.
Kojima Produciton is a big PS win for anybody that buy them... I forget them.

You dont do it, you pretend nothing is happening. You dont want war with a grisly when you're a sheep. Sony fans you cant outspend MS that should be apparent. They decimated you in one day. why would you ask for more. Just do you, dont go to war you cant win.

They actually have cash to buy Take 2 not counting assets to be sold.
Around $20 billion in cash.

Konami is basically just the IPs now... How many studios/people do they still employ?

Kadokawa would be a good fit, From Software and the other small studios for PlayStation, the anime/comics business for Sony.

Not trying to piss in the soup but Sony doesn't need to respond. Bethesda is a big get. It's not going to tilt the generation. Happy for the studios involved, which now might finally have proper management instead of Bethesda calling the shots.

Honestly, I think Microsoft is setting up themselves more for Game Pass solidification than Xbox itself.

Sony just needs to be Sony. Also they align themselves more with the Japanese publishers which I like more.

Something else.

THis acquisition is huge, but other than a headline it does very little for MS TODAY in terms of immediately making things available on Gamepass. It will likely be INCREDIBLE on down the road, but it's not something that immediately benefits gamers.

Theyll sit back and count all the cash they'll be getting from selling out on pre orders?

Calm down, folks. Sony don't need to do anything other than what they are.

They only need to respond if Xbox declares those Zenimax games as exclusive to Xbox only. But when you've just spent 750bill are you really going to turn down the chance to sell to both side per unit cut?

This is the tipping point for MS, if they do not make them Xclusive then it's a clear signal that they don't want to fight Sony anymore, they just wanna make more $$$$$$ and then their acquisition makes no sense.

It will more likely be first on gamepass and then ps5 later but that won't be enough. Exclusives is what drives hardware sales.
