PS5 seems to be quite silent...

4Gamer and Dengeki are reporting that the console was very silent when they tried it during the PS5 preview event.

They say that the room they were in was around 30 degrees celcius (86ºF) because of the studio lights, and they could barely hear the fan while playing Godfall.
The air flow from the console was warm, but not extremely hot.

Dengeki didn't notice any fan sound when playing Astro's Playroom and Godfall.

"When we were wrapping up the gameplay we thought - huh, was the fan even spinning?"

They say that they played for aroung 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Sounds promising!

Sounds promising indeed, but it could just be anti-FUD by a select few.

Will remain cautiously optimistic until more people can get a hands-on with the console.

"Influencers" in a heavily controlled environment, including heavily edited videos to remove certain aspects.

I wouldn't trust anything until we have seen the actual console being played live with impressions from somewhere that isnt in a controlled studio.

Nice to hear but launch titles rarely stress the machine. We're not ultimately going to know until mid gen when we start getting those games whcih start to push against the power. If it was silent when they were on menu screens, it's a good sign though (y)

"not extremely hot" lol, thats a great sales pitch. anyway, i never had a problem with my console sounds at launch... its the first year thats the problem.

what if that ps5 design is really just a big, fancy suitcase for the ps4?

Edit: don't know how i misread the topic so poorly, i wine how thought this was a thread about the size of the ps5. lol oh well

as for noise, the only console i thought was too loud was the 360. other than that i've never been too annoyed with consoles that aren't whisper quiet

Sounds good, noise/heat the only real concern given how high the GPU was clocked so surely they'd have made the cooling robust enough to handle it.

in a sony controlled studio on brand new hardware

The ps4 out of the box was silent..it was not until a few weeks where it started to show how loud it was
To be honest, I had noticed that, too ... but I can't help but think that it wasn't until Boost Mode was introduced into the PS4 Pro that its fan started going apeshit ...

or I could just be misremembering.

Astro's Playground may not be the one to really push the fans but, given it's size and Sony's investment on cooling, you'd expect it to be whisper quiet regardless

You meant 'not to hear', right? ;) I'm fed up with my Pro noise too.

That's great news, but my PS4 was relatively silent the first few months and in many games, but for example in Uncharted or Horizon (in dialogues) it was ridiculously loud.

I hope it is true.

My launch PS4 made me almost cry
replacement were bit better but still annoying

my launch pro made transformer noises + loud fan
replacement is tolerable but too loud because it is hard to hear quiet noises + listen to voice actors

Also heard like 5-6 noisy ps4s and even the "normal" ones have been noisy enough to be annoying.

Noise is subjective and there is no silent consoles other than those with zero moving parts. Even switch is noisy enough to be heard from 2-3m away while gaming on docked mode.

As long as PS5 wont shooooshhhhhh so loudly that it is hard to hear gaming noises without noise canceling headset, im happy.

One of my ps4s were so loud that I could easily hear it from 8m away trought closed door

No idea how loud xboxs are as almost nobody owns them here, probably not silent either but better than ps4

That's what you expect when you make the console this big

Funny how people are doubting this, but the XSX being inaudible they just swallowed.

To be fair, the Xbox Series X is being run from people's homes, rather than a controlled environment, with much more demanding games than Astro's Playground.

Though I personally have no issues believing it's super quiet.

And how does this person know exactly what the temperature was? Sounds like made up crap to me. This whole event is super staged and cringe. I expected way more out of Sony's hands on event.

So is this the new FUD and misinformation then?

Multiple people using the console says it's silent.

You: 'but this is a Sony controlled environment, it's actually loud. Please believe me, sitting on my arse at home in front of my crusty laptop'.

they were playing godfall at 60fps probably dynamic 4k. That's definitely a demanding game no? Good to hear it being quiet, as expected!

Hey you, before you start crying.

One was in a staged and scripted environment (PS5) and the other is in the hands of normal people in their homes (Xbox SX).

It's not hard to believe that the people who are free to test it will not lie.

I'm pretty sure the XSX tests were controlled as well. Not like those people were free to do and say absolutely anything.

I heard there was an NDA over talk of the XsX thermals/noise from Giant Bomb?

Hey you, before you start crying.

Yeah you're right, the people saying XsX runs quiet must be lying. The boot time speeds must be lies too. Don't trust a thing...

Massive difference though, they actually have Xbox units in their homes and are generally free to say whatever they feel about it, they just have topics to focus on like BC ect, but they are free to review it as is. It just shows to me that Xbox are confident in their product and Sony aren't.

I'll wait until independant reviews are done before fully judging it but the lack of transparency is sad.

True, but how are emulated BC games much more demanding than current gen games? Am I missing something?

Yeah if it wasn't controlled, why didn't they do a drop test?

Gaf told me that it was going to be so noisy, recently because some random anonymous internet user posted an image of a small fan.

But hey, maybe if they reworked the console architecture focusing on avoiding the temperature spikes in some specific games and places, to the point they designed a new way to control the CPU and GPU frequency and to boost them to keep them always constant and controlled by programming, and made that patent of huge heatsink sandwich is for something and managed to keep it silent.

They were also playing Godfall and Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition.
