First Look at Godzilla vs Kong

Why are 2 good guys fighting?

I predict that they'll engage into a little scuffle and predictably team up to take down another big bad.

People keep saying this like it'd be a bad thing, does anyone actually want this movie to end with either of them dead?? Personally I just want their throw down to be glorious and the true big bad to be something awesome like a fucking Mecha Godzilla or some shit.

Of course you will say that, with your fucking evident Kong bias.

Hold on, I'm texting Neil Cuckmann to find out which one he likes better before responding... but he has to then text Anita Sarkeesian to ask her which one is less toxic... so this could take a while, placeholder post for when I get a reply on what to say.

I am hoping for it to be good. I legitimately liked KotM but Godzilla '14 is currently my favorite of the legendary kaiju movies so far. (Though kong and the first pacific rim were also pretty good)

Ugh. I can't be that hype with Kong involved. Kong is lame as fuck. Out of all the Kaijus, he's the least interesting. I still can't believe they're doing this lame ass match up again. We have had more interesting kaiju fights than this.

I'm sorry but Godzilla is a literal God. His powers put him in an entirely different weight class than a big monkey. This is unrealistic.

And half of the film is gonna be about the fucking 11 from stranger shit and his relation with the monsters.

I hope they kill her after 5 min to get godzy mad for the entire film.

Is this one of those things where they are trying to kick off a new cinematic universe? Or was that a previous attempt with King Kong?

One creature is a cinematic mainstay and a an icon. A truly international treasure. The other is a fucking ape with one good movie to its name. Godzilla wins.

King Kong ended with a teaser to Godzilla KotM and KotM ended with a teaser of GvK so it's been very reminiscent of when marvel first started tying movies together like the first iron man, hulk and thor

Godzilla 2014 went for drama with the humans, best human char gets killed too early, others are too limp to carry it and the movie is obsessed with cutting away from the monsters

Godzilla King of the Monsters went with more hammy type stuff, some would say aping MCU but it felt more like '90s Independence Day (or Godzilla with Broderick) level schlock to me, more time spent looking at monster mayhem, but the human stuff was possibly worse, like the same level of humanity as 2014 but with more action/monsters would be a slam dunk

Kong Skull Island is kinda like an adventure film, made me think of Indiana Jones or if Apocalypse Now was more "fun", humor lands more often, some characters weren't worth your time, though (Captain Marvel I'm looking at you, worst Kong love interest to date) monster action was great and actually felt like it all got enough screen time

King Kong (Peter Jackson) - ultimate treatment one of these films could get, amazing visuals, amazing action scenes, all the time in the world to develop likeable characters, the problem is TOO MUCH for most people, they don't want to watch a 3 hour movie about a giant ape (I do, though)

Shin Godzilla - pretty much the perfect balance, people often cite it as their favorite entry while bemoaning 2014 for lack of Godzilla screentime (this film has very little as well, it's how you use it, not how much there is) there's just the right approach to humor in this that in no way diminishes the horror and tragedy that comes with the events, a tonal balance perfectly struck and the film doesn't overstay its welcome like Jackson's film did for people

Adam Wingard is great at tonal balancing, movies that are funny without losing their edge in the process, he's not necessarily great at honoring source material (I liked Death Note, taken for what it is) but if you judge it by his social media he's trying to fix that with this film, I have high hopes, the problem is the market right now isn't reacting well to MCU, they don't know how to do what MCU does but they're all trying, it's weird since MCU to me is just what the Godzilla films already did back in the '60s and '70s, team-ups, vs films, even their own Avengers type flicks occasionally... on that note the Dark Knight trilogy, the rival company's dark and gritty masterpiece is basically superhero Gamera Trilogy from the '90s (watch that shit, fools) as much as I think Joss Whedon is a hack they probably need to find a way to match the comic timing or at least do something similar, these new Spider-Man and Avengers films are doing fine without that pasty ass predator on them so someone doing these films should be able to figure it out if they want to be billion dollar franchises

Both last movies were great but anything 2 franchises to a "VS" movie it's never really about them fighting and always turns into a marginal fight by proximity of separate global threat

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, they built Godzilla to be something like a protector of the planet but what is Kong other than a big monkey on a hidden island doing monkey shit

not feeling this kong's design looks weak and juvenile compared to peter jackson's kong looks part monkey instead of full silverback gorilla. hope godzilla whoops it as$, but they're probably going to end up teaming up

Well that was Jackson's Weta Digital and his direction

The one from Kong Skull Island was made by Industrial Light & Magic.
ILM isn't listing Godzilla Vs Kong in their upcoming projects list, though.

Probably any of the other VFX studios were in charge of this new Kong and with a new director at the helm, you can expect new direction to be given in the design. Thusly, now Kong seems to have been given a massive size boost to face Godzilla. Maybe it went back to Weta's hands?...

So, why got Kong chained? What's going on?
Is Monarch controlling him, and unleashing him against Godzilla?
