Gears ain't a bad looking game but nowhere close to this for me.
it is a total remake not a remaster so it makes sense, and by the look of the views on that video, is not stopping the masses from wanting it

XSX has hardware support for i4 and i8 math that isn't part of the RDNA 2 spec. No evidence shows PS has this.


And yes, if PS had an imaginary ML tech they don't have, that would match what MS has. But they don't.

Then thats not part of this rdna 2 argument then, there is much we still don't know about implementations of either, both still cagey, Sony more so but we know that's how they have been this gen.

Let's wait and see, how many time have xbox fans celebrated prematurely, ps5 didn't have ray tracing hardware at one point too.

I doubt any potential advantage worthy of investigation is overlooked by them if they wanted it, given how in such fine detail they are trying to make ps5 super efficient like cu utilisation etc. Given that path taken id wait until bragging until we know for sure.

If not and its actually a meaningful advantage then no problem saying so. But ps5 already has significant advantages that we do now about for facts.

Not a great article to be honest. They didn't help build it, they paid AMD to build it for them with some input. Lets give credit where due. AMD are GPU research and development experts, and sony isn't. Doesn't mean Sony wasn't involved in some way.

it is easy, AMD said that xbseries will be pinnacle of innovation when it launches, yesterdays blog post from ms specifically says that ms decided to wait for AMD to finalise their rdna2 before ms finalised their architecture for xbseries, then we have got lots of ms studio games announced that will probably start launching late 2021 and roll from this point onward. This suggests couple things, that that wait for AMD caused Xbox architecture to be finalised later than Sony, but also resulted in Sony missing out on some rdna2 features (making ps5 not a "full" rdna2 platform), question is, how will these missing features impact ps5 games?

if ms states that they have waited for rdna2 to be finalised, they suggest that Sony didn't want to wait, and depending on what these features are, long term ps5 might not be able to deliver some stuff possible only with these missing features

Microsoft waited because that their choice. It revolves around Directx12 Ultimate. XSX for all intents and purposes is a PC. Microsoft is looking for scalability for their platforms. Whether its on PC, Xbox or xCloud.

FidelityFX is a toolkit that includes these functions. Many of them only require RDNA1 and VRS requires RNDA2. If a company is using FidelityFX, then it does not mean VRS is also used if the hardware does not support it.

I agree, Sony doesnt need PC components of RDNA 2, they want to customize it and integrate it with their own console goals and purpose.

MS does need it due to unification and ease of development for both PC and XsX utilizing Direct X 12 ultimate API.

All that has happened is, they are now closer to a pc in terms or parts and architecture and Sony has changed those parts and customized it with their very own versions.

The fact remains, those games from ubisoft show parity in settings and modes at 120fps, 4ketc, ps5 with 10 Tflops is matching a 12 tflop machine, why are Xbox people celebrating this fact.?

Btw if anyone has not seen it yet there is a Nice Shinney demon souls gameplay video out a few minutes ago, its pretty spectacular.

There are no fast and slow memory chips. All have the same clock speed. Therm 10gb part ist just connected with more bits. It was the only way to get higher bandwidth + 16 GB of memory without the need for even more expensive and faster chips. More memory would have been much better, but consoles are always compromises of price vs performance. And they could increase the cost more, so they chose this strange setup to maximize bandwidth at lower cost.

Yes it is. However, modifying game engines and utility libraries to fully support these new DX12U features + Velocity Architecture takes some time and a few tries I'm sure. Late 2021 games should have a pretty good support for these.

And since these DX12U features are supported by all major GPU manufacturers with their current or up coming products, these will be widely used in the future giving a clear advantage to XSX in console space.

If you're asking, I don't think Sony will be better. From what I know so far, they'll have feature parity. Lower compute performance, lower texture throughput, slightly worse Raytracing performance, but a higher pixel fillrate and higher triangle throughput.

Will they have hardware VRS? I don't see why not, as it's a hardware feature for RDNA2 - one that benefits VR quite a lot I might add. It might not have the same name, but more or less the same functionality.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this line of questioning is here, but there's your answer.

It does not help that Sony has detailed less of the GPU customisations, but again absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Geometry Engine enhancements (on this we have one of their ex principal engineers going on record on it too), same number of shared resources in the GPU running at a much higher frequency, cache scrubbers, but sure more needs to be unveiled. The XSX claim can be true if they integrated features helping with DX compatibility (big push from MS for a unified GDK) that does not mean all exclusive features are a massive mega performance boost (as we know have on record thanks to MS's Andrew Goossen about SFS, the baseline for the 2.5x memory efficiency boost was raw HW capability not PRT or virtual texturing of any kind).

The games seem to be looking good, but more data is good too.

Them waiting on amd to finalize the architecture for RDNA2 also make sense why sdks are behind. Hence nothing at launch. This could actually turn out to be a great generation.
