I was looking for more inspiring things to listen to on leadership. I lead a team of 40 and I want to be the best leader I can be. This has reenforced some of the things I'm doing plus things I can improve on. Anyone else ever listen to this guy.

jocko is the man, i try to listen to every episode
I listened to his latest pod cast this week and loved it. So I'm starting on episode 1 and working through it. Some of the things with ownership have really hit home on so many levels from work, family, and my local community. I heard his book is really good so it's on the list also.

Sounds like a good listen.

So many podcasts so little time. I need something while walking my dog in a few. I'll give this a shot if it's on spotify

Megyn Kelly hasn't had a new episode in a second. I need something else that's equally stimulating

Go to bed earlier. Its all he does :messenger_sleeping:

I heard him say once "what are you going at night anyhow? Watching YouTube videos?" Lol

The same thing I'd probably be doing in the morning. Relaxing. I know he's advocating for more effective use of ones time in a round about fashion, so to me the time doesn't really matter. Or does it?

The biggest difference is that society views early worms as more productive than night owls. Tell someone you stay up until 5 am every night and they think you're a stoner, tell em you wake up at 5am and they assume you're a go getter lol.

Jocko acts like you cant go for a run or lift weights at night. Hes wrong, and I'm sure he knows theres exceptions

His book is very good and provides good examples of leadership issues he has dealt with in consulting other businesses.

Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win

Extreme Ownership and The Dichotomy of Leadership are excellent books.

Is there any more of a badass name than Jocko Willink?

You're pretty much destined to be a SEAL with that name. No one with that name is gonna grow up to be a chess player.

It's about psychology. If you get up early you feel like a badass, you feel like you're ahead of everyone else. You can get important long-term shit done in these first hours in the morning. Something that would benefit you but is not THAT important right now. Stuff like working out or learning languages or new skills. Stuff that people "want" to do but keep putting off. I use these hours to learn Japanese myself. You could do it at night of course, but I know myself and if I stay up late I'm just watching youtube or playing video games.

Maybe I'll make that part of my self improvement

To be "early to rise" guy. I'm already sober, exercising and reading daily, dressing well, and eating super healthy. Might as well complete the package

So I made it to the third podcast today. Lots of good ideas. Loving it as it takes me out political podcast and has more impact on positive things I can do. Woke up at 5:30 and worked out. No fucking slack. I really like that mantra. I went for a 7 mile hike with 6 of my employees today and just had a great day.
