PlayStation (as publisher) leads The Game Awards with 22 nominations

*laughs in PC*

Nah if there's one thing Sony has down it's the type of cinematic game that tends to attract the game awards. The best PC games simply aren't ever mainstream enough for these kind of things.

But you can laugh knowing you are playing on the best gaming platform though.

Where's the Ouya?

Well deserved, but it has been weird to don't see Demon's Souls there. Maybe because the launch games didn't have time to be included there, even if Morales made the cut.

I think they should made the GOTY awards on January to cover all the year to cover games released from January to December because they are called game of the year, so should be games released that year.

They why Miles Morales is there? Weren't they released the same day?
Reviewers had Miles back in October. They just got Demon's Souls last Wednesday, a day before it came out. That's why. They simply didn't have enough time with it.

And just think if games like Demon's Souls and Sackboy were eligible they would've had even more. Sony going to be right back in it again next year with Ratchet, GT7, Horizon 2, and God of War 2. They are consistent.

I think Sony deserves more nominations this year. They had another strong year. But I think Microsoft and Nintendo are too often ignored.

Microsoft had a very good year, but did not receive many nominations. Where are the nominations for Flight Simulator ? It was one of the most praised game this year.

Nintendo had a down year, no question. But every year they don't get many nods. And they rarely win.

Nintendo gets plenty of nominations when they have games worthy of it. They have the record for most at an event back in 2017. What exactly came out this year that was "GOTY" worthy? Nothing. Paper Mario wasn't special and outside of that they had a bunch of old ports. Be glad that Animal Crossing got some love because in the past that franchise didn't.

I'm just waiting for the Pink Wojaks when Sony starts porting their whole damn library on PC in 2-3 years time. It's inevitable. I'm just playing the waiting game.

On top of that, I imagine our Console friends (which I was a few years ago) taste refresh rates, proper 4K and other fun shit PC gamers have had from before.

Best final year of a console so far.

Ghost of Tsushima is probably the best new IP of this gen and TLU2 oozes quality, adding up games like Nioh 2 and Dreams, the Ps4 closed this gen in the best way possible.

Totally deserved.

Is Demon's Souls ineligible because it is a remake or something, because it's completely lacking across all categories, which should not be happening.

It's still technically a Japanese game and we all know how those games typically do at these awards shows no matter how good they are. Sekiro is a rare case.

I guess is because a remaster close to a remake, unlike FFVII Remake close to a reboot.

Praise the games, not the publishers. Praise the developers. I don't see a best developer award or something.

I don't think there is a best publisher award, is there?

These games are spread through various categories that make up the majority of developer segments, from sound to art design.

What a random thing to get angry about. Sony owns them, pays them and they make games for Sony's platform. They are Sony games.

When we say Nintendo games, we don't go around looking for the studio and then dismiss Nintendo by saying they're just a publisher.

They did a kick ass job. Hell, Sony has been knocking it out of the park for the last few years really. Just great game after great game year after year. They've not made my favorite games of each of the last few years, but I won't deny they haven't consistently been putting out quality titles. Good for them. They deserve the accolades.

I forget my votes exactly, but it was pretty much a landslide for TLoU2. I think I gave FFVIIR the nod for soundtrack and Tsushima the nod for art design iirc. CoD cleaned up esports and mobile.

I feel like that's how the awards are gonna go. Maybe an upset GOTY for Tsushima, and some indies getting love over AAA titles sprinkled in.

And just like that, NeoGaf users now care about Game Awards

I know it's a joke, but iirc GAF was pretty supportive of Geoff and the TGA concept when it launched. I never saw much criticism.

It was pretty validating for the game industry to have a more standardized Oscar-like award show.

What makes this even more incredible is the fact that this was the send off year before next gen.

That will be the concern though.
This closing gen, it was all about high budget cinematic single player games, at least on an award level. (sorta like the super hero movies phase now)
We wont know what the next/new gen preferences will be. 🤷‍♀️

When are people going to learn?

Game critics and game media are completely out of touch. This year has been filled with forgettable games no one will remember in 5 years.

It's in regards to the tweet. They should've congratulated the studios for their work, not the publishers or not just the publishers. Just a random thought.
