GAF is a gaming forum. Play some video games. I don't care if you think the politics section is going downhill or whatever but can you not simply view and post in other parts of the forum? Can most of the people in danger of getting themselves banned for their posts simply make the effort to post with a little more respect and thoughtfulness? If you feel you need to take a break, then certainly do so - no one will blame you - but stop acting like it's the end.
