If they came out and actually said that it was only old games from last gen, then that would make it clear and although I personally wouldn't be happy about it, I would be at least less anxious for the future of the brand.

Unfortunately the communication and messaging has been shit and they could be planning anything.

Again I place 100% of this at the feet of Jim Ryan. He's done a crap job since taking over.
Going by Jim's plans, he cares more about selling games to more people and making money.

There's a lot more people in the world who simply just want to play games than ecosystem brand protection.

You got to remember at the end of the day Bryank, it's a video game system, not a Ferrari. It's ok if people outside your circle of friends to play the same game as you.

They're drinks...

But even there, they are exclusive to certain fastfood joints and bars. McDonalds has Coke not Pepsi here.
Coke and Pepsi sell out to the highest bidders. Make sense as a restaurant only needs so many pops and only so much space for dispensers. A restaurant isn't ging to make an entire wall of 28 taps of Coke, Pepsi and Cadbury Sweappes flavours.

Other than that, if there is space (grocery store), they are everywhere and will try to get into every corner store, big store and vending machine.

Undermining?
Sony made PS5 exclusives will stay on PS5 until maybe a year or 2 after PS6 releases.

Sony isn't blinded by Xbox
They actually have exclusives during each generation.
Sony is this industry leader they set the standard not follow.

If you look at your comment, Concern Concern put a laughing emoji and that is exactly my issue..... nobody will take them seriously about exclusives anymore. They just take one game going to PC and run with it to what they perceive as the logical conclusion in their mind.....

There has been no messaging or communication to say only old gen games are getting ports, so nobody is going to stop speculating and pushing that narrative, unfortunately.

I personally feel Sony has not been acting like an industry leader lately and they seem to have no unique vision and just depend completely on the talent of their incredible studios....yet have not expanded those studios or bought and studios / publishers to clap back at Xbox after the Zenimax deal.

They have not answered Nintendo taking over Japan or Xbox buying studio after studio...... they have no aggressive initiatives and seem to take their customers for granted by increasing prices while simultaneously giving away their prized IP's less than exclusive.....

I'm not sure why you'd be unhappy about it? Games are expensive and more revenue streams gives Sony the flexibility to take more risks on games like Dreams or Death Stranding. I'd hate to see Sony go further down the path of only focusing on safe, AAA, cinematic action games. That would be super boring from my perspective.

They'll definitely buffer the release of their platform pushing titles to PC. Selling those is just more profitable on their own platform and storefront. You might bleed a small portion of people interested in your consoles with the "I'll wait" crowd but that will probably be offset by brining those games to a new audience and getting the "I can't wait" crowd.

Isn't that just it though.... they are doubling down on AAA cinematic action games. They have cut Japan Studio down to just making Astrobot and have not invested in more studios, IP's or publishers.....

While increasing prices, putting IP's on PC and allowing Nintendo and Xbox to run amok.

Totally.

Every game (multi plat or not) is front loaded in sales. OK, there are some with legs (GTA) which sell for 10 years, but most games have giant sales in the first few months and tail off fast. If the game has legs, it'll be sold at bargain prices. Only some games like GTA stick with longevity and regular price before finally hitting $19.99.

So if a PC game comes later (doesn't matter if it's 3 months, 6 months or 3 years), PS sales will still be giant with front loaded sales. The people waiting for PC probably aren't even PS day one gamers anyway most of the time.

Out of all gamers out there, how many are dedicated PS and PC gamers at the same time who will cherry pick a PC version? Even willing to wait 6 or 12 months for a PC version? The Sony fans make it sound like it's a 1-for-1 swap where PC gamer playing a PS game means it's a loss of the PS user base.

Why are people not pushing Nintendo to put their games everywhere?
Switch is a poorly made and underpowered load of nonsense....get those games on a real platform. There is more reason there than there is for PS exclusives....

But Nintendo are too wise, they are not fools like the management at PlayStation now.

The ultimate argument is this.... you are not a PlayStation fan..... you game on Xbox or PC, I can't remember which.

For you, it's in your interest for PS exclusives to go to PC. You wouldn't care if Sony closed down tomorrow as long as you got what you wanted from them....

So what is the value in what you are saying to Sony?

Japan Studio is a bummer but a lot of the best work from that studio was just development deals with the likes of Clap Hanz or FROM. It doesn't mean those deals are dead but Sony is obviously not interested in mid tier development at this point outside of Media Molecule.

Price increases don't really bother me as Sony usually doesn't go off the deep end with post sale monetization. They are trickling out older PS4 games to PC which again doesn't bother me. XBOX running amok hasn't really amounted to much and Nintendo is going to do what Nintendo always does.

I'm not trying to defend Sony's direction as they feel much closer to what Microsoft is these days (safe and stale) and I think Jim Ryan is a terrible public face for the company, but releasing games on the PC would be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I am not concerned with what a person with such a ugly mug put's as a reaction to my post.

If you pay attention they have been clear about what they are doing.
Some last gen exclusives are releasing on PC. No indication of it being anything more than that.

Japan isn't a big market for home consoles these days.(mobile is king there)
Especially in comparison to other territories.
Have you looked at the top selling games in Japan? lol

Studios? Sony has the industries best studios.
It's MS and all it's acquisitions who have to step it up.

Every single IP derives value by limiting access, that's why HBO do not put all their stuff on Netflix..... sure Netflix would pay them but the content is of more benefit being exclusive to HBO Max, whether new or old.

Mickey Mouse can't be found in Universal Studios either from what I gather.....

I also think some big games like GOW should only be purchasable for a limited time during the year and come back to the store every year or two at full price and only have small discounts. But launch at 60 rather than 70.

WarnerMedia does not put all their stuff on Netflix and Mickey Mouse isn't at Universal Studios both for strategic business reasons. Not because they want to strengthen their IP.

Also, WarnerMedia doesn't put all their stuff on Netflix for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because Netflix isn't YouTube and you can't just put things on there and then monetize, Netflix has to want to pay for it, and contrary to what some may think Netflix denies a lot of show proposals. Secondly, like I said, it's a business reason, they want to be able to reliably feed their production studios, they want to make money by selling subscriptions. It's not about making the IP stronger but limiting where you can access it.

There's a business advantage of keeping things exclusive. Nobody denied that. However, there's potential for overall better gain if you balance out that exclusivity. HBO Max could arguably make more money by both having consistently exclusive content and randomly licensing out parts of their libraries for extra money.

Nintendo probably gets a pass because they've never done it. Sony however dabbles in it and even has PS Now that can stream 100s of games. So if you're going to dive it, might as support it in full.

Also, Sony games look much better than Nintendo games. So if Sony is going to take a dip into PC gaming, PC gamers are itching to take advantage of their good rigs to play PS games at ultra settings.

Nintendo games are more about family fun, never the latest greatest tech and visuals, so most gamers probably don't care. Also, if someone really wants to play Nintendo games, their hardware is always the cheapest, and people who like Nintendo games like it portable on their handhelds whether it's Switch or old DS systems.

I really don't understand the recent advertising push for PSNow on Youtube...... then coupled with exclusives going to PC.

It all just makes no cohesive strategic sense to me.

Do you know what it looks like to me? Jim Ryan just thinking about short term cash and casting his net out wide hoping to catch a whale..... but he has no actual understanding of the market and no vision as I've said before.

Ya.

Apple sells iPhones everywhere from online, Apple Store, Walmart, Costco and even random no name mobile stores.

For probably the most iconic brand in the world, you'd think they would protect the brand and funnel sales to only certain stores, but it seems like a free for all. If a gas station wanted to sell Apple products, Apple would probably supply it. Even the dumpiest Walmart sells Apple gear.

They've realized to max out sales and profits, more the merrier. I'm sure 1980s Apple purists hate the fact Apple became mainstream the last 15 years (since iPod took off with U2 ads), but Apple execs said FU. You 2% market share Apple nerds arent worth the hassle when there's $100s of billion of opportunities with the wider mass market.

What they could have done is say only Apple Store, Apple online and high end stores carry Apple. There would be a more exclusive feel to it, and bigger lines out the door. But they chose wide distribution model even though Apple products are the highest costing.

Would be a totally shame Bloodborne coming to PC and PS5 stick with BC crap.

IMO PC version should come at the cost of a PS5 counterpart.

if bloodborne gets a pc patch before getting a PS4 Pro or PS5 patch, it would be perfect.

I mean technically its already happened with Horizon getting a PC port with interactive foliage, FOV and better visuals but i think BB is when the spirits of PS owners will truly break. My Jim Ryan hate squad will have many new members, i am sure of it.
Yeah I'd like to see this. After half a gen of fans crying out for a patch, this would certainly be quite the catalyst for mass outrage.

Makes me think of 3 possibilities, it's bullshit, -or- Jim Ryan is truely out of his mind, -or- a PS5 patch will also happen

Place your bets.

Pretty much this. Some PC players like to tease others, but since day one Bloodborne fans was asking a patch and leaving Playstation territory without even fixing?

I never against Playstation games coming to PC, but at least use the money from PC to make a decent PS5 version.
Everyone happy.
Not even a native APP or just a BC patch.

Generally people with big rig PC's are not gaming on consoles (I know there are people they buy everything). They should sell day 1 on PC along side of consoles and reap the cash from it. Sony is here to make money, not give you reassuring hugs.

But besides that...none of those games are selling new consoles to new users after a year anyway.

To me it makes sense. They're all extremely popular and well selling games but they're exclusive to an old system now.

The port to PC is just printing money.

The thing is that most old milennials and gen x that got into gaming with the NES, they totally drank the jap kool aid about exclusives. It's second nature for them.

Nintendo clings to their exclusives because they are shite at everything else. Underpowered hardware, poor pricing, archaic online functionalities, poor build quality and more. Nintendo sales would suffer A LOT without exclusives

Sony and MS can afford putting their games on pc because their ecosystems don't rely on exclusives that much. They are still great gaming machines for third party games. Case in point , all their cash cows are third party games like FIFA GTA and COD.

And the most hardcore Sony talibans on the forum will end up thanking PC gamers because us will end up financing the next round of ps5 first party games.

A game like Bloodborne that basically makes no money on ps it's an easy 5 million seller on pc. Do the math:

5 million* average sale price of $40 minus 30% Steam cut = 120M give or take.

For your reference HZD budget was of around 50M. It's a virtuous cycle, and goes in line with what Jim Ryan said about the economics of video game development.

It's funny the best games according to you are sonys. Doesn't seem biased at all.

But I'll bite.

Half-Life: Alyx
Total War series
Dota2
Blizzard games except war 3 reforged.
Civilization
Black Mesa

Of course, its all about taste and genre. Some prefer rpg, other fps, and someone else exclusives.

But imagine the same games you mention will run better in performance and even better graphics on pc.

So yeah, pc will out best sonys games on another platform.
Those games are totally different genres so I don't see you proved me wrong? How are Strategy, VR or RTS similar to GOW?

Anyway, you really think those games are on par with GOW, BB or GOT? Like same level of quality? Poor child. You're in for a rude awakening whenever they come out lol

That's awesome! I want to see those fanboys cry like a baby.
Same as Xbox fans did.

I like to play on consoles, but i love when this happens, everybody wins!

So, short term cash in exchange for undermining every time they announce a new exclusive.

Cause now, every time a game is announced, everyone will say 'timed' after it says 'exclusive' in the trailer or they will just go on and on about how the games are not real exclusives and how 'everything comes to PC eventually'.

Nintendo never did this and they are the ones to really watch, the ones that took Japan away from PlayStation and threaten europe too.... not Xbox.

Sony are so blinded by Xbox, they have no idea what they are doing.
How are they undermined when they won't release until the next gen?
PC is getting hand me downs.
If people want to play Sony made PS5 games(for example) they WILL buy a PS5.
Again Japan is a non factor as casual kiddy games and mobile dominate over there.

Sony will go from selling the most consoles to selling 'some consoles' .....

What a regressive move.
For one, Sony isn't selling the most consoles - Nintendo is. Second, having games on multiple platforms is only a huge benefit for consumers. Worrying about Sony's potential profits and losses while not actually working for the company is dumb fanboy shit. Normalize putting your needs ahead of the needs of billion-dollar corporations. And no, you don't need to "own" internet forum arguments with sales data.

Oh, Switch has passed 115 million?

At any rate, you proved my point with that statement alone... Sony should be emulating nintendo if anyone.... and they don't put their games on PC.

If you think the sole reason Nintendo has been the sales leader all around the world for the past 2 years is because their games aren't on PC, you are dumb. Sorry.

Every territory matters IMO. 10 million sales is not to be scoffed at and losing Japan is a serious failure.

No matter the demographics. They need to sow the seeds of the future with the younger generations in Japan.

The PS5 hardware footprint is probably too monstrous for Japan.

That narrative only gets thrown around in gaming forums though. I don't think this will affect Sony's bottomline in the grand scheme of thing.

I didn't say that. Why are you putting words in my mouth?

Switch is not a console...it's a portable device, it has one model that has a dock to use on TV.

I simply said that Sony should emulate Nintendo more than Xbox or anyone else...... one of the things Nintendo do is keep their games fully exclusive.

Are you going to make a point or keep on overreaching trying to get the ever elusive 'own' on me?

Sony Playstation is a global brand in the way it thinks. Nintendo is still resolutely Nintendo and Japan centric.

I dunno, the thirst for PS5 there seems to be insane.

You saw the videos of the stores with almost a riot happening, with police being called....

I didn't but I believe it though. I do wonder what Japan's allocation has been. At this rate, the compute hardware manufacturing industry is going to be a mess until 2023.

Famitsu said 30K disc systems and 3.5K digital last week.

But they were smaller shipments the weeks before, around 20 - 25K I think.
