Damn, even the GAF Ad shows what would happen to Sony diehards if this news breaks.

You don't increase IP value by making it available everywhere, the value of Gold for instance is based on its scarcity.
Companies increase IP value by developing quality games to lure consumers.

Biggest threats to PS are a drop in quality, a sudden shift in consumer behavior and
Sony willingness to use PS free cash flow ($10B since 2013) to grow other segments.
Nintendo never did this and they are the ones to really watch, the ones that took Japan away from PlayStation and threaten europe too.... not Xbox.

Sony are so blinded by Xbox, they have no idea what they are doing.
The japanese console market collapsed long time ago. Nintendo has always been the largest publisher so they were better equipped to weather the storm, but they didn't take anything from PS.

Nintendo could disappear and nothing would change. In fact, the PS4 had the entire market for itself in the mid 2010s, at the end of 3DS-Wii U era, reasonable price and better third party support than the PS3. It didn't matter.

Sony could be stupid enough to buy SE or Capcom (they are part of the problem) and nothing would change. Well, they would lose their home console business to Microsoft, the only rival with a strong digital ecosystem, deep pockets and long term view.

Eh, I'm not worried about Xbox outside anywhere but North America....

They don't have a hope in Europe, ME or Asia.

Phase 1: Sony buys Capcom
Phase 2: Sony announces a successor to the PlayStation Vita, the Monster Hunter Portable.
Phase 3: ???
Phase 4: Profit

Increase the price of games, make them multiplatform and cross generation, close risky studios.
Can't sleep at night thinking on how little return playstation gets on their first party games, they are so bold and strong. So exited for all the surprises in the coming years..

Because Sony's business model involves using exclusive games to sell hardware. They'll release games on PC to entice PC gamers to buy PlayStations...

So your theory is that Playstation is cat fishing pc players by allowing them to play a drastically improved version of a game that was once exclusive to a console so that they then buy a console and experience the sequel on subpar hardware?

That's how Jim Ryan spins it, i don't think anyone believes it tho.

I'm kinda stoked for 60fps Bloodborne, though these move would only train their customers to hold off from buying at all if not at launch with $70 initial prices and PC ports options. The burn would come out in 2-3 years though, even with bargain bin prices for 1st party games just months after releases.

This bullshit story that 'games are expensive to make' is incredibly condescending.... of course games cost more but PlayStation has many more sources of income now and makes more profit than it ever did. The exclusives were never about making profit on their own, they were showpieces and games made to address gaps in the market or niches and expand the consumer base.
Jim Ryan is an ignorant and incapable leader with a 2 dimensional grasp of the industry, he was shielded from the real competition for years and years due to his position in europe, which sided with PlayStation by default.
He also looks like a pig dressed up in a suit with some straw for hair...
Nintendo games are a specific type of niche category that many kids love. That is not the same for Sony. Sony has regular games like Xbox and PC games that target adults and are Mature.

Games that Sony make *are* requiring more money to make and yes, Sony is needing the money very much so.

Sony will go from selling the most consoles to selling 'some consoles' .....

What a regressive move.
Several times in the tech announcements about the new consoles there was mention how expensive the cost has become to make them. Eventually the consoles will become $1k machines while the price of a PC will relatively be the same. At that point, they will only sell "some" consoles. It's inevitable really.

Err whatever the console costs to manufacture, it will always be sold at better value than pc, therefore forever maintain market share.

The console is viable because the platform holder makes money by taxing every piece of software sold for the platform. The razor blade/ printer ink model. Open platform hardware will never compete with it.

How you don't have insight into such a basic business model is telling.

I think in Sony's case the advertisement is at least as expensive as the game developement. For example they spent around 10 million dollars on a single Spider-Man tv spot just in the USA. In my town nearly every second billboard is rent by Sony if they release a new game, radio spots, tv spots, internet ads, a Sony truck came to my local supermarket. And i live in a mid-sized city in Europe. You can only imagine what this is worldwide.

Yeah I don't believe it. Especially not Bloodborne on PC, considering they haven't even bothered with a PS4 pro patch for that game. But we'll see!

Remember when he tried to convince us that his Sony ruined his birthday for Horizon on PC and MLB coming to Xbox videos were "jokes?"

Kid needs help.
Well, they were not real.

Also, that Neil Godmann account is always saying some edgy bait

Isn't that just it though.... they are doubling down on AAA cinematic action games. They have cut Japan Studio down to just making Astrobot and have not invested in more studios, IP's or publishers.....

While increasing prices, putting IP's on PC and allowing Nintendo and Xbox to run amok.
They are going to where MS did a few genes ago, those companies are going to become sequel factories, trying to push out a new version of game X that did well.

The writing is already on the wall, and you can see it in people's list wars.

I'm going to doubt. It's easy to backtrack on. but since you like posting your tweets here, it's easy to see you were serious.

I don't begrudge you. In fact if I'm having a shitty day I play that MLB one just to make me laugh. So you are welcome for the clicks.

Except I think you took it down, so I hope it's one of your friends I'm watching on the repost or you are getting nothing for it.

Literally, the Horizon PC Port thing I knew would possibly be coming after the rumors in January so I had an old video from my friend from 2018 primed and ready to go for the event that would happen. And it just so happened to be on Herman Hulst and I's birthday, lmao:

As for the MLB The Show Livestream.. once again go back and watch it (also someone else re-uploaded it nobody that I know) you can clearly hear that my friend's and I were making an exaggeration out of the whole thing, much like what we just did with the recent state of play. I deleted it because resetera was getting bent out of shape over us calling Jim Ryan a European operative.

Sure Jan,

and TBH I don't care. Keep tweeting your hot takes to show how wrong I am. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe he was thinking in the future once these companies have tapped out other means of increasing revenue like releasing games on other platforms eventually they will stop selling hardware at a loss aswell to get that year on year revenue still going up up up.

Or another narrative would be played out, where they now claim that PC gets old games while PS4 and PS5 still get the new exclusives. I guarantee you it will happen.
it's already started. i'm even quite PS curious, but when i said, why buy a PS, the common refrain was because nobody can wait that long to play "old" games. I was like... pfft I'm an old man... I still enjoy Quake and super mario bros. from time to time.

You are late to the party. Already read several times that pc gamers "only" get year old games nobody cares about anymore. As if they become worthless or unplayable. But that was to be expected just like when we first had 12TF vs 10TF. "Almost no difference", "Who cares? It's all about the gameplay" and now that developers are struggling with the Xbox tools it's suddenliy "Another one", "Haha, PS5 is better" and so on.

Yup. Also for those of us that genuinely enjoy PS games and consoles but have other systems and PC and don't subscribe to PS as a religious orientation.

this is the downside that i see biting Sony in the ass. Maybe Sony see the warring between Apple and Epic and assume the 30% cut is going to evaporate so they might as well become a multi-platform developer first. I don't get it. That 30% is just gravy and they're leaving it behind to sell $60 games on steam. Steam the land of the sub $10 holiday sales (I know, I love 'em).

Believe or not, there are many that mains a PC and only have a ps4 for the exclusives.

Just like it was for Xbox before they released everything on pc.

PC has so many great games anyways and aren't brand loyal so they see a Sony game as being equal as good (or worse) than a game from any other brand, and they don't mind waiting because there's so many games anyway.

If you main a platform like pc, you really don't want to throw 499 euro on the table to buy ps5 brand new games at 80 euro.

We are taking about gamers that waits for the right steam sale to buy something that's years old for fifty percent off, and you expect the same people to buy a ps5 to buy Sony exclusives day one?

PC players has back logs all the way back before the first console generation. There's no draught in games, either new or old.

Sorry but these people were never gonna buy a ps5 in the first place ... so why not take make money from them and release those games on pc they've already had a run on playstation when first released and I've got a feeling some of those games will do very well .

They turn in a games publisher like sega has then. The likelihood of that happening in a duopoly is almost impossible, someone will always take the spot.

I'll go further and speak from a PS4 main last gen:

1.) I prefer to play a definitive experience. If a PS game becomes a multiplatform game, all of a sudden it can run at a higher resolution and with higher frame rate on the other platform. PS no longer relevant as definitive experience.

2.) I collected for PS4 and will for PS5 maybe. If the PC gets the same games I'll ignore collecting except for local multiplayer games (e.g., sackboy, overcooked).

3.) another point is no fee to play online. Not as relevant for Sony exclusives (e.g., most single player only), but still GoT for example, on PC would be great. I don't pay for sony online right now so getting those games on PC would really open that up.

Also ps+ subscriptions, dlc/micro transactions, peripherals and licensing for 3rd party controllers etc. It's bigger than any game they produce.

It's fantastical to think that's being abandoned. Sony may do a few moves here and there to make a quick buck, but they will attempt to balance it with their platform interests. It's a company, not one crazed man acting on a whim.
