Politics Forum....?

Can anybody recommend a well balanced political alternative, where people can respectfully interact with each other with opposing views?

Not echo chambers of one or the other persuasion - 0 interest in talking into a mirror.

I put 16 people on my personal ignore list during the existence of the political forum, and gradually removed myself from it. It was almost never informative, good-spirited, nor educational, and the election frenzy just drove it into crazyland. I really dislike it when people are insulting, and the subforum even weaponized emojis. Just wasn't a lot of respect going on and I don't think I'll miss it.

I hear this one is maximally fair and balanced.

Shit, most of my posts were in Politics. Guess I'll have to go console warrior now :messenger_winking:

Anyway, good call. After the election it all became Race wars and went downhill fast.

Much love goes out to my politics brethren who were here in the run-up and during the election. Great times were had, many laughs were shared. Even you SF Kosmo SF Kosmo 🫂

Time to let go of all the reactionary bullshit and get back to having fun together

I think it's best if you just quit thinking about politics if these are your demands. I'm being 100% serious.

Funny. But that's the crux of the problem. While Shapiro & others are attempting to create balance in the culture we're kind of resigning from the issue.

I don't pretend to know about the intricacies of running a forum, nor do I know about all the issues in Politics. But I do know things aren't right in the world and I feel the need to vent on occasion.

I'll always post here because games are a lifelong hobby of mine, but the hole will be felt.

Twitter is ok for that I suppose. There's lots of different sub communities with some cross talk. It's called doom scrolling for a reason though. To get to good stuff you have to wade through a lot of toxic shit. I've pulled back and observe from a distance via podcasts and substacks and even that is often too much. What is good about Twitter for me was seeing both how some of the kinda crazy things people say make sense in context of their feed; and also, when discussing amongst themselves there's a lot less homogeneity than would be expected from all the extreme things they say about outsiders they love to hate on and yet keep current on like it's some tv drama

As a 10 year Veteran of this site, I feel obligated to give my opinion.

I never enjoyed the political far left craziness Neogaf once was back in the day. But the gaming section was excellent. We had inside scoops from devs, devs actually participating in discussions, great news threads and official topics, and best of all, great communities for games like KILLZONE, warhawk, and resistance.

I watched this site literally die, slowly pick up the pieces, and evolve into a community I love posting to. Thanks to you, Tyler Malka, you won the bullshit me too battle and gave us gamers a sane place to have discussions without rabid SJWs shitting up the forum.

But I will say this; Evilore, I strongly disagree with you nuking the politics section and implore you to reconsider. Keeping the toxicness in one part of the forum prevents it from spreading to other "innocent" areas of the site. Also, it was a great space to have solid political discussion. Yes, most people there "leaned right". But it wasn't so far off as a site like patriots.win is. I enjoyed the mostly level conversation. Yes, we had guys like Crytpo Adam, The Texas Avatar guy, and even literal lib talking heads like Onion Snake, Nobody Important, and SF cosmo who I'll miss dearly seeing their complete opposite-from-me takes on Political stories.

Please bring the politics section back Tyler

There was no "mostly level" conversation. It was mostly just confirmation bias, strawman arguments, name calling, "laughing emoji", misinformation memes and IDPOL trolling.

Nah, just for the racism alone, that's something we don't need. Some posters can't differentiate things, so that's probably why the subforum was nuked.

It's impossible to have a discussion about a sensitive matters without being called names and then completely ignored. So fuck that, the forum is better without it. I understand that you like discussing politics, nothing wrong with that and I've never seen you as a toxic person there (I mostly lurked and I know a bunch of posters which I sincerely disliked there), but I really think Evilore did the best thing for this place.

Don't do that. Twitter is the reason we're all down here in this mess.

It's spelled fuck
Thank you teacher. Didn't know about that one. Evilore, you should open the politics side again, we need people like him discussing there, he seems like a really intelligent person and his English is really good.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no.

It was getting way to heated and the problem on any forum when you talk about subjects like politics is people start to think they delivering speeches at the Oxford Union and become very self important and they forget it's on a gaming fourm on the internet.... it's almost as bad as Twitter.

I for one am glad it's gone

I enjoyed the GAF politics forum since it allowed voices from both sides (including some not anti-China ppl) to speak up and not risk getting banned like at the other place. But I also understand how these discussions can get heated and cause more discontent in the end, so whatever... let's talk about that potential MGS remake instead. Lol

I'll miss it. US politics are a hobby of mine, so much fun to watch and discuss it from a distance.

From the SuperStraight threat, to Bidens gaffes, to discussions about missteps of politicians.... There have been a lot of hilarious posts. Great entertainment.

I'll search for an alternative, because I really enjoyed that right and left leaning people have been allowed to voice their thoughts and to exchange their ideas without fear of being banned for having different opinions.

Gave me more insight and broadened my understanding regarding certain topics. Which is an incredible achievement for a gaming focussed forum.

Thanks to all the people who engaged in civil discourse and treated people with respect.

Will be interesting how this site will handle topics when politics bleed into games, like the Cyberpunk transphobe controversy, when games get boycotted, censored etc.

The internet in the nineties. You'll love it. Tell them that I sent you.

First the resetera thread gets nuked and now politics. Although I do understand the reasoning I don't know if this is the right way and will help the gaming section or forum in general.
