EDIT: Hmm... a little over 60% of them are Nintendo-published games. That's pretty good for the Gamecube, methinks.

I've got a 31% Nintendo-published collection -- third parties am happy! :D

I own 5 GC games!! And when the new Zelda comes out it will be 6!!! Nintendo is awesome!! There is no other console maker out there whom I could buy ONLY their first party titles and be satisfied.

What's interesting for Nintendo is that the DS has had the most successful first 12 months of any system in history, including the PS2 (only 10M units in year 1) at least from a hardware standpoint.

It's certainly going to fly by the GCN and Xbox installed bases like they were standing still, but the big question is will it slow down in 2006 or will it sell another 15+M units worldwide.

Funny thing is...it's that successful YET I know alot of people who still don't even know what it is...even "gamers". I think once more people realize what it is and that it's the psuedo-successor to the GBA they'll take notice. Once *that* happens, I expect the platform will have very healthy sales despite Nintendo's past success in the handheld market or Sony's PSP's success.

Nintendo still has PokeMon, Revolution connectivity, more WFC plans and multi-media/PDA functions to help sell the platform even moreso. Then there's the possible redesign some time in the future as well as stuff Nintendo/outside publishers have planned for the system that they haven't talked about yet.

I really think they should introduce a Play-Yan device over here with the ability to download games from Nintendo's Virtual Console concept into the GBA & NDS...this will only add to the appeal and set-up an iGames type approach that I think most people would embrace.

I've got you all beat. I have 69 GameCube games in my collection. Granted, some are my girlfriend's, and most were budget games. But most are good.

I figured it out, and my collection cost $2,071 (including GameCube) to assemble. With full priced games, would have been closer to $3,600.

Money saved, yet suddenly I'm considering a change of hobbies...

Yea, now that the PSP has done its job, the system can die now.

NOT YET, DAMN IT!! Not until Nintendo takes of the other kiddy (no pun intended) glove, and gives us a full blown SSB DS.

50 GC games.
Every one of them was brand new.
Around 2600 dollars.
Fuck.

11 Ps2 games (my first edition ps2 broke 2.5 years after buying it, so I never bought a new one :( ). All new as well.
Around 580 dollars.

23 Xbox games.
All bought off some ladies garage sale (i got fucking lucky), these games+system were in great shape.
Around 400. (I got some great games too: Kotor1+2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Halo 1+2) yeah, i got fucking lucky :)

9 DS games
All New.
290 dollars.

All in all (just for games): Around $4,000, with the systems around 5,000 (bought the ps2+GC opening days). Great generation for games yo :). Expensive as fuck though.

The Wind Waker for example has sold more in line with Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past than Ocarina of Time (which sold 3 times as many copies).

I dont get it.

Although that's an impressive collection, I've gotta argue with your none "crap" statement. There are plenty of terrible games on that list. But I'm not one to speak, I've got crap games too.

Ahem,

130 gamecube games
30 DS games
GBA, let's say lots.....
OMG you've doubled my already ridiculous collection. Did you actually beat much of that, 'cause I've only beaten 31 of my 69 games (some, like Animal Crossing not technically beatable).

Next gen I'm just buying 69 of the same game at budget price so I can beat my entire collection with less spending.

I think, this thread doesn't deserve to be filled with lists of GameCube games, it's nice work.
That being said:
I have 30 GameCube games, two of those for for free (Zelda CE and Zelda OoT MQ), 19 out of them are published by Nintendo, 9 by Sega. The other two games are by UbiSoft ^^. But I have to buy Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe 1&2, Killer 7, Beyond Good and Evil, Sonic Riders and Zelda TP before finishing this chapter, so there's a lot to go.

Around 20 games here:

F-Zero GX
Final Fantasy: Shitty Chronicles
Paper Mario 1000
Prime
Prime 2
Zelda: WW + CE (OoT) + CE2 (MM)
Zelda: 4SA
Baten Kaitos
Shitty Emblem: Path of Boredom
RE0
Mario Kart: DD
RE4
Super Mario Sunshine
Shit Calibur 2
SNK vs Capcom 2 EO
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
Wario World
Tony Hawk's American Waste of Money
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Super Monkey Balls 2

It's just amazing how the PS2 outsold the monopolizing NES.

It's not really that simple a comparison though.

When the NES was released a household would only buy 1 console. So while the PS2 has no doubt been a huge success...the buying patterns of consumers are different (whether or not there has been an increase in the raw number of households which own consoles).

In my house we have 2 PS2s, 2 GCs, 1 XBOX, 2 N64, 1 PSX, 1 SNES, 1 NES between 4 people. So ignoring the accumulation of past gen machines, we managed to incorporate 5 current-gen consoles into our house. And that doesn't account for that fact that both PS2s are the slim versions which were bought to replace the original PS2s which had become highly faulty.

What most impresses me about the PSX and PS2 is that people continue to buy them & the games for a couple of years after the "next-gen" has been released.

I own about 20 GC games. Sold around 10 others as well. Compare that to around 30 PS2 (with around 20 others sold) and 15 Xbox games.

nice charts! (you need to add SEGA though :P)

I think the cube is the least played console I've ever owned. I never bought a SNES or a N64 (various roommates and friends had them).

Wow, really? If I would have had to bet I would have said that either GBA or PS2 sold a good amount more than DS, really surprising to me that DS' first year was THAT good.

You think that's a question at all? Have you seen the DS linup for 2006? :P

Just out of curiosity, what big games (for Europe and NA) will come out in 2006? New Super Mario Bros. will hopefully be out this year in all major territories, Pokemon probably only in Japan. What else? I was under the impression that the western DS lineup for 2006 doesn't look that good at the moment, but on the other hand I could've missed quite a few games and/or E3 2006 could rock for the DS like E3 2005 did ^^

then you must be the easyist fanboy to hook. Its a list of gamecube games I've bought along with some color commentary. The cube is the biggest dust collector in my gaming collection... hell my neo geo pocket got more play.

RE0
REmake
RE4
Metroid Prime
Zelda:WW
Tales of Symphonia
FF:CC
Eternal Darkness

On the Actual Topic: That's amazing!

The PSone outsold it too. As far as I know the PSone and PS2 sales combined are higher than all of Nintendo's consoles combined.
Not in the US or Japan. Worldwide yes, but that's thanks to Sony's Euro gains alone.

down to 80 GC games from... christ knows? 100-and-something?

sold a crap load of them, still need to sell loads more of this stuff - i need space more than games.

Well there's even more lists / tie ratios etc here:

Again true as of Sep 05.

Code:

Which shows a number of points:

-SNES was down from NES in all regions except a small increase in europe- US especially with the entrance of the Genesis.
-N64 was on par with SNES in all regions except Japan.
-GC isn't actually that significantly down from N64. About 2/3 hardware and 3/4 software sold.
-PS2 is doing better than PS1 in the west, but although hardware is higher in Japan software is significanly lower.
-GBA has done almost original GB levels in the USA but about half in Japan / Europe.
-Europe has seen a significant increase over the last ten years, USA a fair increase and Japan a decrease.

46 GC games here, which is quite a bit but far lesser than my PS2/Xbox collections. Looking at the charts above, it seems like tie ratios are steadily on the rise in America over generations (SNES to N64 to GC for example) and on the decline in JP, and X360 looks early on to be supporting that growth in America.

I currently own 120 Gamecube games. I've actually purchased a lot more than that. If I hadn't sold any of them that number would be closer to 175.

Are you rich or just crazy? (that statement applies to everyone else here who owns more than 50 gamecube games)

Actually I used to be one of those people that wanted to buy "every N64 game that came out" when the N64 first came out. Then I realized how futile that plan would be given the cost of N64 games and my lowly college budget. But damn, you hardcore collectors and your money. :P

I'll be expecting a powerpoint presentation printed out in a binder on my desk by the end of the day, original poster. Get to work
