I still have the boxed SNES cart! It is one of the best platformers from that era, for sure.
 
Ruin Sentinels are the first good boss fight in Dark Souls 2. It really gets my juices flowing, the epic music, the stress having three giant opponents chasing you around the arena. Good fight for jolly co-op too.
 
Life is Strange 2: True Colors

Fantastic story, art, acting, and music. Terrible optimization on the PlayStation 5 - def not running 60 fps, the haptics are terrible, and not even sure if raytracing is on or working correctly if it is.
 
Playing Forgotton Anne on switch - had it for ages and needed a short 5-8 hour game before going into some of the new releases. I am seriously impressed. Animation and audio are top notch and the story is keeping me interested.
 
Tales of Arise. I was skeptical at first, but because of the raving reviews I decided to give it a shot. So glad I did. Game is fucking awesome! Really enjoy the new combat system. Really dig what they're doing with art and music as well. Highly recommend it!
 
Still jamming through Gears 5. This game is longer (and better) than I thought. Really enjoying it. It's not as frustrating as some of the other ones, and definitely has a different vibe with some different mix ups. It was a steal at whatever discount price I picked it up for during the Steam Summer Sale.

I heard the game is excellent. Idk if you can judge the game based off the demo alone but I've heard great things even from people who've just recently jumped back into the Resident Evil games since the RE4 days. Seems like a must play to me. But maybe I'm too biased to make that call
 
Tried for the third time to get into Shadow of War, third times the charm cus Im hooked on everything, the story, nemisis system, segies, massacuring hundrads and hundras of green bois, compared to the original they really ramped it up to eleven.

Bangai-O [N64] -This game is insane and completely unique - just nothing else like it in gaming. Collecting space fruit amoung a trillion bullets on the screen - madness. A normal person who sees you playing this game would wonder what the fuck was wrong with you. I just appreciate someone even came up with this game idea and made it happen. Treasure, what happened to you? Last boss is one of the most difficult in gaming history. I managed to finish it though. The "shoot the core" boss who just sits there doing nothing is hilarious.

I returned to the Dreamcast version right after and, while still a great game too, the gameplay is significantly dumbed down from the N64 version.
Still waiting for the Xbox 360 Bangai-O to hit backwards compatibility...

Flight Sim [Series X] -flights discovering Spain. Since watching this year's La Vuelta - had me interested in seeing the country which I knew nothing about previously.

I just got my new PC with a RTX 3080, so I am going to try out Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. Just fire it up, check out how good it looks with everything cranked, then it's back to Life is Strange until that's done.

Edit: decided to try out Cyberpunk 2077 as well seeing as I completed it long before any significant patches came out (looks like the last one was three months ago...). Everything cranked up to max, 1440p, my monitor's refresh rate is 75Hz and it is rock solid and looks amazing. Had to kill that film grain though - still makes the game look unnecessarily ugly to me. Also, I see this is how ray tracing is supposed to look. With my old RTX 2080 Super it wasn't bad, but this is on another level

Also the spatial sound doesn't seem to support DTS:X (I have it licensed and configured and have a Soundslayer bar that supports it). Or if it does I suppose it's lackluster or I fucked something up. So, may just use my headphones later with Atmos instead.

Might be time to finally upgrade to a 4K monitor with HDR as well. The lack of HDR is getting noticeable.

Still playing Goldenye 64, trying to beat all missions on 00 Agent. Now in the Cuba missions.

Also started Yakuza 3. I'm really enjoying it, the combat isn't as bad as I've read and it's not too bad techmically, even coming from Kiwami 2. Very happy with it so far.

Oh man, I'm glad to read that! I beat the Dreamcast version some years ago and was wondering how the N64 does in comparison. Oh! There's also a Bangai-O game for the Nintendo DS, you might want to check that one out.

I forgot there was one on DS. I never had a DS but maybe I should track one down to play Bangai-O and those Advance Wars games for it.

The N64 version of Bangai-O is different because you have to collect the space fruit to charge up your super shot meter. In the DC version you build meter just by shooting stuff and the fruits are there just for score only - this makes the DC version very spammy in comparison.
Also on N64, when you land big combos a shop appears for you to power up your shot and puncturing power - adding a mini-rpg edge to the gameplay.

Bangai-O is brilliant on any platform but play the N64 one if youre a fan for sure.

Completed my first playthrough of ys orgin. Overall, I'd say the game was really fun. It's like a mix of something like your traditional ys game and a dungeon crawler.

Also making progress in borderlands 1. Having played 2 and 3 first, I'm really enjoying the first games lack of a story so far.
 
Years after beating Shenmue 2, I finally beat Shenmue. It was quite good overall even though I found the forklift part tiring at first (though mastered it pretty quickly). I think I still prefer Shenmue 2, though, but the setting in Shenmue is amazing. I wanna be like one of those nerds who visits the Shenmue locations in real life (would be amazing). I score Shenmue an 8.5/10.

Now playing Tales of Arise (PS4). Its my first Tales game and it is fantastic.
 
I think im almost finished with Fallen Order, great gameplay and level design, unexpected difficulty spikes though.
And just started Star Wars KOTOR on Android for commuting, gamepad controls are so weird and cant be customizable and that makes me cringe a bit.
 
Various ones at the moment:

Mr. Driller Land for the Switch. Bought it last summer on a whim since I recall it being kind of a holy grail of the series that was never released outside Japan. It's a great pick up and play game, hence why I've been dabbling with it again. The various Namco cameos sprinkled throughout make me smile.

No More Heroes for the Switch. I bought this and the 2nd one when they were released for it late last fall. I loved the original on the Wii (Possibly my most played Wii game after Dragon Quest Swords) and want to refresh myself on Travis's antics again before I try the 3rd one eventually. With my Wii being essentially dead, I'm grateful to have these on a modern system. I've also got NMH Lost Paradise for the PS3, but again, I wanted for modern systems. Still probably the best overall game Suda has ever made that isn't Shadows of the Damned.

Shin Megami Tensei for the SNES. Playing it via a translation patch and it doesn't mess around. I honestly haven't touched it in a month or more because I went through the SNES remakes of Megami Tensei I and II and frankly, I'm so sick of looking at maps lol. It's clunky as hell, and accessing a map takes about 3 steps too much. Obtuse as hell. I'll get back to it though, as there is potential and good to be still found within.

Of course, come September 24th, I will be playing Judgment 2 for the PS5. I love the Yakuza games and really enjoyed the original Judgment spinoff. This one looks to be worth it for the amount of classic Sega Master Systems contained within alone... And considering the original had the best end game half out of any Yakuza game yet, IMO, I have some super high expectations for this one. Also hyped for 60FPS again in these games.

Oh, and I busted out that Namco NES collection on PS5 earlier tonight to play the 8 bit PacMan CE that's on there. Pretty kickass game and well worth buying just for that if you enjoy PacMan at all.

Tempted to play Crystalis on the SNK 40th anniversary collection sometime soon. One of the best adventure RPG games for the original NES that isn't Zelda.
 
Just finished the story in Miles Morales (PS5) and man, that last boss was some janky frustrating shit. Other than that though, I'm loving it. Now off to the platinum.
 
Eastward:

A solid throwback to old school overhead action adventure. Some problems with how they tell story and take away agency from the player, but it's good overall



A Plague Tell - Innocence:

I am playing this on the PS5. It is all presentation. Gorgeous visuals with an extreme attention to detail and painstakingly crafted art. From the cloth and iron and leather on the characters, their emoting, the lighting, everything, just beautiful. The voice acting and direction is some of the best there has ever been in a game. The audio is incredible. It makes good, but not great, use of the haptics in the DualSense. The writing is good so far but dragged down with several extremely cliched occurrences and devices to move the story forward.

Its problem is the gameplay. If this game had come out in the middle of the PS360 era it would probably have been lauded as a masterpiece. As it stands now however, playing it in 2021, everything about the gameplay is dated. From leading the player from point A to B to hit buttons to do predictable actions, to the awkward combat, to the rote and repetitive way each area plays out - all terribly dated.

This game reminds me a lot of The Order: 1886 in that way. The presentation is A+ - award worthy really. But the gameplay? 2006 called .....

Life is Strange True Colors.
I adore the first game. Second game is so boring that im still at episode 2 out of 5. True Colors is great tho and its kind of a comfort game that i really need in this moment of my life.
 
With all the Spider-Man hype, I decided to replay (or even do a 1st time run on some of 3D Spider-Man games).

Spider-Man 2000 on PC: with DgVodoo (high resolutions and 8xMSAA + 16xAF): Man, does this game look clean and it has surprisingly high rez textures for a PS1 game. It's still just as fun! Though I forgot how short the game was.

Next-up: Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro on PS1! Then probably Spider-Man 2: The Movie game on GameCube (Dolphin)

Finished Little Nightmares. Overly frustrating in places, but I'd probably still play the sequel at some point.

Then played The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter. Was okay.
Tried Moonlighter, couldn't get into it.
Tried Vikings : Wolves of Midgard. Uninstalled in under 1 minute!

Now playing Brothers : A Tale of Two Sons. Tis rather good. Interesting control scheme, for sure.
 
Finished PS5 Miles Morales, amazing game, but a single bronze trophy for finish it in new game + is ridiculous.
Started Returnal and it is, by far, the best 3D sound on the PS5. With the pulse 3D is godlike, but it's pretty good too with a Atmos setup, the top channels are used a lot.

And in the retro side I started Dracula X on the SNES, aiming for the 3 finals, and Scurge:Hive on the 3DS, awesome hidden gem that someone posted about here.
 
I'm trying to finally finish Doom Eternal. I think this is the second time I've restarted the game after getting stuck at some point, walking away and then losing my skills.

This is the furthest I've got, but honestly I'm not sure I'll be able to beat it. I'm a couple of fights into Taras Nabad and the game seems to have got significantly harder. The one that's ruining me now I've probably tried about 20 times already. And the last one with the marauder I just cheated with the BFG.

My best hope is that it's such fun I don't generally find it frustrating, just difficult. Well, apart from the bosses. I hate the bosses.

I'm also playing through NG+ runs of TLOU2 and Miles Morales. I'd forgotten how beautiful and fun Miles is, such a great game.

TLOU2 ng+ seems to bump the difficulty significantly, right? Much less ammo, in particular. But tbh I think the game comes alive like this, basically forces you to stealth it and that's so much more fun than the shooting, where I never really felt I had much control.

I'm still at the beggining, got to the first boss I think, and it isn't that hard, but the 'loop' that makes you get to start with only traversal/interactions upgrades when you die, loosing integrity/health/weapons upgrades, etc, makes things harder than it should.
A new 'get good' type of game, but as it's playability is awesome, isn't that bad, but I believe it can became repetitive if you're keep dying a lot...
 
Rotating between Tales of Arise (PS4), which is excellent, and Shenmue 2 HD (PS4). I beat Shenmue 2 a very long time ago but now I'm playing the remaster for the first time. I am remembering why its in my top games of all time.
 
Deathloop is my main game right now, and it's really damn good, especially invasions.

Also started playing FFXV Royal Edition after originally stopping about half way through back in 2016.

For multiplayer (outside of Deathloop invasions) I'm playing a mix of Predator: Hunting Grounds, Siege, and Quake.

From action JRPG prospective it better ones I played. Even more so than FFVIIR, compare to Arise, FFVIIR is vey stiff and clunky when ti comes dodging, and aerial attacks.
 
Done with Silent Hill and now playing Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill made my eyes bleed (weird dot effect) but thankfully Silent Hill 2 doesn't have that. It does have noise that you can't remove but at least it's not as bad as those horrible dots.
 
Berserk and the Band of the Hawk. I got the trophy for defeating a 1,000 enemies in a single mission. Which was fun to do. It has its highs and it's lows. Lows mainly come from the production value of being a DW type game and that it basically inserts clips from the films before each battle. I'm looking forward to post-Eclipse content. It's definitely been enjoyable.

Deathloop - I am loving it and I suffer from being frustrated with it all at the same time. I just want to push forward, but I haven't gotten all the info for a complete run yet. I feel like I am having a good experience and then without fault it wants something else.

I preloaded Diablo 2, so I'm looking forward to that. I've been excited for Elden Ring, so not a whole lot is getting me all that excited. About 126 days until Elden Ring.
