Scandinavian countries and most of Europe would beg to differ. They are all market economy democracies with strong social safety nets which conservatives in the west call "socialism" as if that's equivalent to Venezuela or Cuba.

The point of social systems is to ensure everyone can be the best they can be (can take risks and make mistakes and still get up and try again) and ensure everyone benefits from a country's wealth. That can coexist with profit and individual enterprise comfortably. Except when either true socialists take over and start nationalising everything or there are so many rich people with political access that they start to rig the economy in their favour and starve social systems of funds so they can hoard more wealth.

The 2008 Financial Crisis or the Enron or Worldcomm cases among many many others should have taught us that market economies need to be moderated and the public good needs to be protected.

Covid antimask and antivax hysteria show just how far the extreme right are willing to go to protect individualism at the expense of the public good. To the death, literally.

That's as screwed up as Venezuela...just in a different way.

Systemic racism is so pervasive a lot of people in the US, UK, Canada and Australia wouldn't recognise it if it hit them across the face like a wet kipper.

That is a Problem THEY themselfs have to figure out. Not us or the Banks or Insurance Companys. There are plenty of minoritys who miraciuosly dont produce Ghetto after Ghetto for some reason.
And even IF they suffer from a true systemic rasicm - that should motivate them even more to not fall through the grid.

1. NeoGAF was created as a off branch of another forum, and got extremely popular

2. NeoGAF got extremely left politically, somehow a gaming forum was more than that, it was more about politics however in the background we had shady shit happening that didn't align with the forum users who were lefties. So Evilore the owner had to just roll with it, after all he's making money so why ruin something that's working even if you don't quite agree with everything.

3. Evilore as any normal human being made a mistake or bitch was lieing, an alleged sexual harrasment, now GAF was in a extroadanary situation, the owner of said leftie forum is not the a man oh honour a furry lover, blue coloured hair guy, a feminist, he doesn't align with the leftie forum so GAF imploded.

4. Cerium a poster of NeoGAF came up with the idea of making Era, a more social justice gaming forum without a dodgy owner. There was hope for leftie community, but the forum was setup exactly the way NeoGAF was where there is 1 sole owner or a bunch of owners. Business stuff wasn't spoken about with the community, it was all about community spirit, free labour and hope.

5. Meanwhile Evilore, owner of GAF admits he lost control the lefties took over GAF it wasnt the same and had no choice but to just go along with it all. As the exodus to Era happened Evilore unbanned all the people who got banned by the previous lefties who migrated and said this forum will not be a leftie place.

6. Era is growing and growing, when ads were mentioned and introduced some of the community suggested everyone get paid and Era was a safe haven and not a business, this was all ignored and no one talked about it in the forum. Era Clear was also introduced as why not more money, again it was introduced to keep the lights on and support he community (the the wording is changed now lol). In the background alot of older mods left Era who were part of the inception of Era, we find out they left mainly due to not being shareholders. They were then replaced by a new set of mods who don't mind working for free.

7. Ads are doing great on Era and it was told it kept the lights on for Era, but in the background actually it made light ganging money around $700. Cerium bought out the rest of the shareholders who were only the tech team.

8. Cerium managed to negotiate a deal to sell Era for 4.5 million. The new owner has websites that goes against leftie principles. Meanwhile the original mods comment why they left Era (Emily Rogers) and are salty, the mods currently in Era don't say anything bad hoping potentially Cerium throws a bone at them.

In the end the winner of all this is Cerium. The ultimate grifter and I wish I was him (or shall I say her, they or whatever Cerium wants to be called just in case Cerium was a leftie, but let's be honest he probably wasn't and just had his eye on the prize for a long time).

Yeah those were the days. I'll give Evilore props for not selling up in the heights of GAF (even though likely he probably regrets it, I know I would). Where as Cerium was on a massive grift. In many ways if you actually look at it ResetEra was more hypocritical for lefties than GAF was. I think loads of folks at Era provably don't care and are new users. But if I was an old user and I was one of the loonies who was a SJW my aim would be to get Era to implode so at the least Cerium doesn't get the last few million as we all know the 4.5 million isn't all going to be paid, part of it is based on how much traffic Era can retain. So Era users who are mad should atleast try to implode the site, I'm surprised there is threads being created about this in gaming or off topic side and it's just all on that one thread. You would think some of the leavers would leave suicide threads before they leave (suicide meaning threads that get them banned)

I don't think you understand my post, grift maybe isn't the word buy I wanted to conclude the winner in all of this was solely Cerium. I don't give a fuck how he got to it, but he won you can't deny that. Coming up with the idea and getting free labour and becoming the sole owner and selling and making a profit and lieing and stating ads and Era clear to keep the lights on. He cheated everyone and won. But that's capitalism for you that's how the world works and I hope Era folks learned a lesson of the real world.
