It's obvious Cerium planned this from the start. He ain't stupid he is a book author and knows about crypto.
He said he has mental issues running the site yet bought out other shareholders while Era was on growth mode. A thread that was created asking about site ownership and no sticky or details about it quickly had a response and locked immediately with no details such as Emily and original admins left due to not getting paid.
The site got sold at the perfect time when growth slowed down, he had the data to see the site hit its peak and sold just as it was starting to drop. He had making a buck from this from the start or atleast early on. I think soon as he had the idea of making a profit the original admins left but it's a shame none of said a damn thing while they left the house.
So how does this affect Era, well this is the site that's against free labour, late stage capitalism, its infancy was based on the fact GAF had one owner who they didn't like and they wanted to do something new run by the community. The new owner Cerium sold to has issues that goes against there very ideals. This is fucked and I am surprised no one is creating account suicide threads that was as bad as what happened here on GAF. Maybe they just accepted it and are embarrassed.

The ultimate irony is that the forum has spent the last 4 years creating a safe space for its users, provided they subscribe to the same very narrow ideology. Anything slightly outside of this viewpoint and it's a ban. I think over half of the forums members have been banned at this point.
The end result is an extreme ideological echo chamber that is far removed from the real world, and even other online spaces, so much so that it has become a comfort blanket for the members left who can stay on message.
And now...the place gets purchased by a company that openly states it wants more users. It'll open up the doors to literally everyone, and now that ideological safe space is going to be a free for all.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. The whole forum got hoodwinked, which makes all their sanctimonious preaching even funnier. They got used by an old fashioned capitalist, too busy bickering with themselves and scrapping for tiny pieces of power to notice. My god it's pure Orwell.

Hey, just popping up here again. Forgot if I ever posted here before to begin with. I originally made a ResetEra account back when it was first created, never had a (working) account on here before that point because I couldn't do the e-mail credentials then, and by the time I could the exodus happened, so I tried going along with that.
Unfortunately, some threads were rather out there, and I had a couple particular posters get unreasonably agitated at me doing a generalized call-out on people who don't actually support content creators who respond to their feedback, which caused me to leave. (I don't remember being banned for it; this was before it flanderized into being ridiculously ban-crazy.)
I may had considered coming back if things changed, but being corporate-owned is not the change I wanted.
I am not really familiar with many old-style forums left with anything resembling active communities, and my experiences with Reddit make me feel like it is too restrictive. (In regards to style, I mean. After all these years you can't post a picture, a video, and a paragraph in the same post? Why do the new kids even like this stuff?)
So I guess I'll be here for a bit, seeing old-style forums continue to slowly die. Sad.

i have no issue with both forums policies. I dont jump into political discussions and never cared about anything else. Sole reason to join both forums is to discuss games and hardware related stuff. I have been reading GAF since 2007 and was trying to become member since but never got my account approved. When this GAF exodus happened i got my accounts on both forums. I am just happy to be a part of bigger communities. I have no hate for ERA nor GAF.
