NFL Legend John Madden Dies Unexpectedly at 85

His voice already brought a level of importance to a game that no one else really could. The anticipation and excitement and epic feeling he brought to the game and his funny little sayings were the best.

And he made more money on the gaming franchise than he ever did in his NFL and broadcasting career.

Probably a coincidence but I was getting worried about him when Fox announced that hour long special on him for Christmas. I always appreciate how he conveyed his knowledge of the game that was easily digestible for anyone. I also appreciated his love for line men.

God Speed Mr. Madden.

I feel old.

The last game John ever called from the booth was Super Bowl XLIII where my Steelers completed a fantastic comeback. In fact, the last two Super Bowls he called were Steeler victories (XL and XLIII).

BOOM!

RIP John.

Granted I only really know him from the game that took his namesake, but I loved the story about how the man hated to fly. He had this massive tour bus which he took all over the country.

I don't know who he is, should I know who he is?

Edit: *was

Edit2: Ah, American football. I see.

Rip an absolute legend. A voice that will never be forgotten.

EA looking to make a special Madden edition next year for more money I'd say

Is it bad that the first thing to come to my head is "how are EA going to try and monetise this?"

One of the biggest names in the history of video games.
I've only heard of Madden, but not being into sports games + being european = having no clue about who he was outside of the game. I thought "Madden" was just an American football league or something.

The timing is ironic because he has a big documentary chronicling his life out. It covers the video game too.

I have never been a huge die hard football fan. Mostly delved into it when I was younger with my friends since we were into pretty much any and all sports. Anyways, If there is one thing that truly grabbed me when watching football was Maddens voice and the way he explained the game. I learned football from him and I learned to enjoy watching it because of him. He brought a unique emotion into his commentary that honestly it is hard to find nowadays.

RIP Coach.

Not sure if "85 years of age" and "unexpectedly died" even exist in one sentence.

RIP in any case.

Not to make light of his passing, but the title "unexpectedly dies" made me laugh. Unexpected as opposed to what? Consider this alternate title:

"NFL Legend John Madden Dies at 85, Just as Planned"

Or

"NFL Legend John Madden Dies at 85, as Expected"
