Oh wow, I've never heard of XPadder. I should check that out.

I've actually just been using a gyro remote to point and click. It works sort of like the LG TV remote control, if you happen to have one.

XPadder is just one of many programs people use so they can set up controller support in games that dont have controller support (mostly old games now at this point).
So yeah the left stick is set up as the mouse, and controls the mouse pointer. Left and right triggers (and left and right bumpers) are set for the left and right mouse buttons. And i havethe face buttons set up to some random keys like Enter, Delete, Space bar etc.
It works great, and i never need to use my acttual keyboard for anything other than when i need to type something like an e-mail etc.

Oh no doubt, I'll always love building, but its something I just can't do right now for my next build for business, school etc. I semi need a new PC for design stuff and school and its just not feasible for me to save money building like the old days.

Back then you could build yourself and save a fuck ton of money, now its just the reverse. You build and you are now spending a shit load on a GPU marked up to a oblivion.



Agreed and I'm sure lots of people are in that boat right now. I had a whole build written down, ready to buy.....then those GPUs released (sorta) and that price was just insane for what they are going for online. Any way I added it up, I was just not saving money. So much has changed from those days of companies making the shitiest of builds, back then NZXT made the most GV cases, now they are making some of the best parts and even building and doing that shit better then some of the companies from 15 years ago, so a lot has changed with that and its no longer this wasteland of great value parts being added lol

So I do hope that situation does get resolved with the whole GPU thing and we can get stable prices again as thats the only way I see me building again, that or I make a fuck ton more money and do a build for fun, but we need to focus on what makes sense for business and my education at this point. I can't think of this using a enthusiast mindset lol

My PC is basically my entertainment hub. All my gaming, movies, tv, and music are consumed from my PC.

Narrow fov and un-toggable Chromatic Aberration is the worst shit in games and I can't stand it when/if I can't turn it off. And yeah, I agree with the Ultrawide comment, it'd be hard to go back.

I still love to game on PS5 on my 55 inch Samsung, so I split my time, but ultrawide is something special.

Can't justify it yet, but I can wait to get a QD-LED purely for gaming, and I'll use my current Alienware for work.

Not only that, but just about literally every one ever made. At this point I dig out the controller of the system I'm emulating. Playing SotN with an old school PS1 non analog controller is the only way to go.

Personally, I am so over RGB lighting (especially rainbows ). From now on I've got static lighting on everything. Just looks cleaner and I don't have to programs running in the background.

I was always a console gamer till I started building my own PC and I always owned all 3 PS4 Xbox One and PC.

When MS announced their games coming to PC I sold my Xbox. no need to keep it anymore since I have the PC.

But come to this generation. I started hating sony more and more. I was their biggest fan, especially since the PS4 hype.

But with all this Woke/censorship / Jimbo / releasing their games on PC / 100$ CAD it cost right now to buy a PlayStation 5 game... yeah fuck off. . I gave up on Playstation. Now I am just a PC gamer only. If they release something on PC that I like ill buy it. if not then fuck em, plenty of other games to play really and I can't keep up.

Yep, for the first time in my life I'm considering an upgrade to a gaming laptops instead of a new PC. I'll me moving and I need a new notebook anyway so I might as well go with that. A lot of them, even the less fancy one seem to be really well built now and they come with pretty decent screens with high refresh rate and FreeSync (so I might skip on buying a new monitor) and a RTX 3060 should easily handle games made for the current gen.

Modern gaming laptops aren't like the anemic weaklings of yesteryear. They have come a very long way.

I have a perfectly decent Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, picked it up during the sale back in November for Black Friday. It's the one with i7-11700H and RTX 3070 Laptop. I don't have any problems hitting the native resolution 1440p/60 (16:9) or 1600p/60 (16:10) on the majority of games I play. It's a 165hz G-sync display too, so for example Elden Ring usually hovers around 50-55 fps on the display running in 1440p with all settings Maxed and it doesn't feel any worse than the locked 4K/60 fps on my desktop PC with an RTX 3090 because G-sync is just that good.

Another good thing about PCs is that you have the option to choose for good build quality components (especially PSUs) and use decent cooling solutions for your build, instead of trusting whatever Sony and MS are using. Meaning, you can control the noise and temperature levels and improve them if necessary, increasing your system's lifespan. My current custom build is 8 years old (with one upgrade of the graphics card 4 years ago) and is operating at least 12+ hours everyday since it's used for everything (gaming, internet, work, media, etc) and it's still working smoothly while being super cool and dead silent (my friends always comment about how they couldn't tell if the system is operating if it wasn't for the power led).

I don't think any modern console can withstand that kind of use for that long. The last one that would must be something like the N64 i assume. After my falcon XBOX 360 died less than a year after it's warranty, i took it personally. Never bought another console after this, i don't trust them. They get hot and noisy and you can't do much about it. Plus, with a PC, if a component dies i can just replace that specific component alone instead of buying the whole system again...

Being able to file-dive and modding alone made the change to PC worth it for me. I always tinker with my games before I play them and actually really enjoy playing around with .ini settings, Reshade, ENB, etc.

Assembling the hardware, running cable, ironing out the system and making everything run cooler and faster is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. I've torn my PC apart completely multiple times just to try something out.

You can do that already with Steam. Theres mouse options and click functionality. If you want to use the PC as a console without using a mouse just enable Steam's Big Picture mode at startup.

I did the same just prior to the component prices going insane. Best decision I've made. I had a pc about 10 years before so had a nice steam library to fall back into as well as all the modern titles to play at the best possible quality.

True litmus test for me though has been watching a bit of Returnal when eating. It initially really tempted me to finally pick up a PS5, now they are finally slowly becoming available at retail in the UK, but I've managed to supress the need. Hopefully it comes to PC as I think it's my platform of choice from now on. I ain't going back.

I would never part with PC platform as well. even with very bad rigs, i've always managed to find games to enjoy and have great time with friends. i remember my r7 265 2 gb becoming very limiting in AAA games back in 2017 but it never stopped me from having endless fun in bfme 2, payday 2, team fortress 2 (why the 2s). when i look back, i wouldn't be able to have the same fun with a one x or ps4 pro.

nowadays i have a decent PC and i can enjoy aaa games too. its an elevated experience for sure. i still apreciate pc more for its flexibility. i also use a dualsense gamepad all the time configured with ds4windows and never had a problem with it so far. it just took 30 minutes to setup first and then it just became automatic nowadays (auto start, properly made configuration) i like emulators as well!

and mostly i love being able to remaster my own games. i never played spec ops the line before and with my new PC i managed to play it at 4k/120 fps. it most likely runs at 30 fps and with limited resolutions on new consoles despite having compability modes.

i can also say the same for witcher 2. and many more games of course. the list would be endless

it is really nice to utilize all the headroom you have not for only new games but old games as well. to me that is too valuable

It's awesome but I gotta say for different reasons for me than you stated.

Communities on PC are too fucking serious in my opinion, like so many players act like they gonna be the next pro. Sweaters everywhere, taking out the fun, and I actually turn instantly ingame text and voice chat off. it's soooo much more relaxed than having people yell at you into their mic how is everything your or your team's fault when they get alone somewhere and get wrecked by other players. I don't shit talk and real aggressive language and don't wanna hear it, I'm not 14 anymore. I want two hours of fun after work and that's it. Team play and community toxicity is shit if you're not playing ultra serious games like Hell Let loose or Hunt Showdown.

On the M/K thing, I really like playing with a controller, even shooters, because of the haptic feedback. On console, 99% of the users use controllers anyways so it's not even a disadvantage but I get that m/k feels better when it comes to precision.

Anyways, I love PC gaming for all its possibilities and making compromises how you want it, not how devs want it because that's not always the experience you want or sometimes they're simply incompetent. For example I can't play Stardew Valley anymore without mods. Control with ray-tracing options AND 60fps? Not possible on console. Backwards compatibility back to the earliest days of PC gaming without the need to pay (again) for cheap emulation or the need pay an online subscription? Check!

Still love the seamless experience on a console, PS4 before and now PS5. Navigating the UI and having everything within the reach of the push of a button and the hassle-free use of the DualSense (the horror on PC...) is brilliant. Steam Big Picture isn't there yet and DualSense support, too.

Glad to have both options!

Every controller I own is plug and play on PC. PS1-PS4, Xbox 360-XSX and Switch ones. Was playing Elden Ring with a PS1 controller the other day just for fun, worked great.

I second this, its another tool in the tool box. I see people complaining about "review bombing" or being unfair to a game etc etc, but often its how your alerted to shoddy PC ports and quite often there are community linked solutions that players have fixed themselves.

Even with review bombing Steam is better than other alternatives since reviews can be updated after posting and you can see recent trends and filter out those who have barely played a game.

Critics reviews on Metacritic used to be okay but are worthless now when games aren't ready when critics are playing the game they're rating. Basically can't be used for anything. The version consumers get to play can be a lot different and you never see a badly reviewed game get an increased score no matter how much it's updated, making the reviews completely irrelevant after launch unless a dev ignore all player feedback and never touch a game post-launch, which is rare.

I respect people's choice to like kb/mouse and the skill level that is only achieved in certain games with it....BUT I can't stand using that combination.

I used to play Unreal Tournament with a Gravis controller and I now only play games with controller support(these days I don't have the patience to rig controller support to games that don't have it)

I also stopped sitting at a desk using tiny ass monitors and hook my PC's to my 55,65 and 75 inch.(although I am considering returning as monitors are becoming good again)
Some times play through my Pioneer Elite Atmos AVR with a Logitech illuminated wireless mouse/KB combo(for navigation)



But these are my preferences.

Might not be my platform of choice these days...
But the good thing about gaming on PC is you have options.

I don't see the point of consoles anymore when nearly every third party and even starting to be first party gets a port. With emulators you have access to 99% of all games ever made. Then you look at mods, higher resolutions/frame rates, free online, cheap games/bundles and all the other perks. They are convenient for casuals but anyone serious into gaming should have a PC.

I'm all in on PC but come on. Consoles are affordable, very convenient and easy to setup. These alone are good reasons to choose them over PC.

Thanks for the tip, I also have a PC hooked to the tv but I use an all-in-1 Logitech Wireless KB&M. It's fine but I'd prefer to control everything with the controller. I'll try XPadder.
Also, aren't they selling some kind of remote to turn the PC on without having to go press the button on the tower? That would be helpful.

I had some good times, but as soon as I realised I was spending more time tinkering with PC parts and settings than actual gaming, I moved to console and never looked back. I definitely feel like most of the best gaming experiences I have ever had have been on console.

Never in my life or anyone that i know in real life has something this absurd happened. What ever the fuck even is there to "tinker" for hours ? Half Life 2 had like 12 graphics settings in a single window. With low-medium-high. You either max everything and can run the game or you medium everything and play. There's no "tinkering more than i play" in real life

No, there's no temptation. The only place you read about this "temtations" of "tinkering for hours" or some fringe issue that some people seem to have daily are platform wars. You make it sound as if playing on PC is some alien experience. You can just say you prefer consoles, no need to throw the tinker nonsense in. Thats not something that exists. There just arent that many options in games that would require tinkering. Im replaying AC Black Flag for example right now. It has like 6 settings in the menu. What the fuck do i need to tinker with ? For hours ? What is preventing me from playing ? Nothing. In any game, ever.

Don't be a dick. This has happened to half my friends including myself who grew up as PC gamers in the 90s.

I'll never forget spending months trying to get STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl to work without freezing randomly. That thing had some incompatibility with my Radeon at the time and I tried everything to make it work (changing power supplies, motherboards, etc). Had a shit experience as well with Bioshock. I know that things are much better now with Windows and drivers, etc. But there were some dark times during the Vista years. That's when I started to play GameCube and eventually got a PS3. Not having to think about hardware and software and just focusing on games was a breath of fresh air specially with age and having a full time job.

I spent days and days upgrading my pc in the 90s to always get a better experience when playing games when I was a teenager. Changing settings, resolutions, adding some RAM for less stuttering. PowerVR, Voodoo 2, Geforce, had them all. I understand the appeal but I just don't have any interest in spending time like that now. I spent my time reading magazines thinking about what new graphics card I should buy.

A very particular sub-segment of PC players still represent the cliché "gamer" that runs a game to look at frame rates and CPU temperatures and going "console noobs" are so far from this. I know them in person. They don't really game. And that's fine. They're hardware and spec enthusiasts. Just don't undermine or negate other people's experiences.
