After being a console player for last 6 years, buying a gaming PC is probably the best decision i made in gaming

it always felt like breathing through a straw to me. at least with a mouse you're actually moving your hand similar to how you would move a gun up and down or side to side when aiming. using your fingers is in no way similar at all. detracts from immersion greatly. kind of like VR without motion controllers.
To compensate for how bad aiming with a controller they'll usually rely a lot on aim assist or they end up needing to design the entire game around that limitation as well. I guess the second kind of game isn't as bad but I see a lot of the first type where it makes me feel like I'm not exactly playing the game.

I guess it also work in the other direction too, some PC games tend too focus way too much on precisely aiming. But even with that I just like M&K way better for FSP games.

Ah i see it took to page 3 before we started getting the tiresome steriotypes of 'technical problems' and 'PC's are too complicated' memes.
Well being PC only for the last 10 years, and been PC gaming for 30 years, PC's today are so simple compared to yesteryear. Games barely have problems running in systems these days, i actually cant remember the last time i had a problem running a modern game. Updating drivers and the likes are practically automated these days. Compatability between hardware and software is so high these days that at least for me problems rarely arise.
And even when you do get the odd problem here and there, a simple Google search almost always reveals the solution. I honestly cant remember the last problem, software or hardware wise, that a Google search didnt reveal the solution.

Guys its not the 90's anymore, PC gaming is a piece of piss these days. Its as 'plug and play' as PC gaming has ever been. In fact i'd say its a tiny jump, technical wise, from console gaming. A tiny jump in complexity for the near endless positives of PC gaming over console gaming. Its a trade thats worth it ffs.:messenger_tears_of_joy:

Just as stereotypical as people who pretend that there aren't problems and things that can go wrong.

It wasn't any harder to play PC games back in the 90s, I don't know where that idea comes from. People acting like playing on PC is this novelty or that it just recently became a good option is nonsense. PC was always a pretty popular way to play games all over the globe, some market leaned more towards consoles some markets leaned more towards PC.

Some people like to play on consoles, some people like PC, there is no need for everyone to play on PC and PC isn't inherently superior.

Mine and others since 1998.
I don't need to make anything up.
Crashes etc are worse with PC's than consoles and it's not even close.
Sure. Any recent (like, this century) examples of yours?

Sorry but as a main PC user I just can't believe this argument of "muh crashes". Don't you guys know how to use a computer? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

No thanks. I don’t want the chance of something not working or tinkering, controller mapping etc…

That's literally user problem. And not related to what your previous post is about. Lets just stop.

It seems you are trying to start the game with the wrong executable or program because that one you are trying to launch is not the game launcher but a component included in the installation. To start the game, double-click on the game icon on your desktop and not the EXE file in the installation folder because you might be starting the wrong program.

I like how you skipped the part where you have access to almost every game ever made. If you just want to play Madden and COD then sure it's pointless and a waste of money.
Let's be clear, some people don't want the hassle of owning and maintaining/upgrading a PC.

Many people prefer the simplicity of owning a console, and there are plenty of Sony and Nintendo games which arent on PC.

And for a while now the price of new and old GPUs has been verging on extortionate, beyond what some are willing, or can pay. Then you look at issues getting power supplies, and costs of DDR5 RAM, the increase in motherboard prices etc. Even with the free online and generally cheaper games, PC gaming is more expensive if you're looking to play AAA games on high settings.

Personally I see the benefit in owning both, but the PCMR attitude that some have, looking down their noses of console owners is quite annoying, and makes PC owners look like dicks.

A very particular sub-segment of PC players still represent the cliché "gamer" that runs a game to look at frame rates and CPU temperatures and going "console noobs" are so far from this. I know them in person. They don't really game. And that's fine. They're hardware and spec enthusiasts. Just don't undermine or negate other people's experiences.
These are usually the same people who constantly upgrade and just benchmark all the time. It's just a material hobby for them, and PC is much cheaper than cars, bikes, etc.
To compensate for how bad aiming with a controller they'll usually rely a lot on aim assist or they end up needing to design the entire game around that limitation as well. I guess the second kind of game isn't as bad but I see a lot of the first type where it makes me feel like I'm not exactly playing the game.
COD is still this way. Played 2019 heavily on PS4. Played the vanguard demo on PC with M&K and wasn't doing as well. Paired my PS4 controller and it was like I was running hacks. Pretty much if a enemy is on your screen just L2 and you snap to them, then hit R2. COD with a controller is really just a reflex game of hitting two buttons.

I was far more into pc gaming when it was its own unique thing in the 90s and 2000s. When those types of games never went to console or went very rarely. These days, I just plop my ass infront of the couch with friends we shoot the shit and play games locally. I could never do that with a pc. Let's huddle around the monitor! Nah, PC gaming has its place, but I'm out of it for the most part these days as I hate building, dealing with driver issues, FOMO on computer parts, and all that stuff. Age has kind of taken out that adventerous part of me.

Also, which is the first game you've tried? Have you run any benchmarks to check the system stability?

You don't have to. But if you want, you can, and that's the cool thing.
I bought
I5 12600k
2tb ssd 7000mb/sec
PSU 80+bronze
2x16gb ram
1440p 144hz monitor

And used RTX 3060 because i wanna upgrade to new 4xxx series when it comes this year.

Smart choices

Esp. if the board you got can support the 8 core raptor lake cpus without issue

I'm in the same boat as you, got 3060 to get me going while I wait for next gen.

The amount of master race in here is disgusting lol
Can't you just people play on pc without having to feel justified, superior or something?
I know, pc costs a lot of money but honestly, steam deck even though it is pretty weak, seems like a pretty cool merge between console and pc with all the system wide built in features like fps locks and so on. Serves to show how annoying windows gaming can be and how it can be improved.

I might've lost he patience for pc gaming in last few years but that's only because I was pc gaming since 1997. It is undoubtfully BEST NOW IT has ever been since it's so easy to just do everything.
I think just years of issues made me too self loathing :p

Anyway - BE SURE TO LOOK UP PCGAMINGWIKI for most older games you play. Even few newer ones. Will improve your experience.
Also, be sure to get RTSS and msi afterburner to set up osd and fps limiters. You do it once and forget. Good times

edit: btw - I did ordered Steam Deck in hope to rejuvenate my pc love a bit somehow. But when I do play on pc nowadays, it's a good experience. I am to jaded to go epic, origin, blizzard and 1 other launchers. but sticking to GOG and Steam works for me

Good build in general. I would've gone with a stronger cpu since you're future proofing but this one should still do just fine.

Obviously not. From the start of the thread I could tell how it was going to end and what kind of people or posts you could find here.

I don't get it. If they aren't into PC gaming... Why come to a PC gaming thread? Total nonsense.

It all depends on what kind of games you want to play. I have zero interest in the popular twitch games like WoW, PoE, Hearthstone, Counter Strike, LoL, DOTA, Valorant etc. I like AAA games and the times I've went PC most of the ports are an absolute disgrace even when you could brute force performance which is now becoming harder and harder to do due to CPU limitations and consoles getting such a boost in that area this gen.

what limitations? what brute force?

name a single game that desktop ryzen 2700x, which is nearly equivalent to console CPUs, cannot push console-like performance

i never come across one. i would gladly hear your opinions. i guess we can thank the likes of nxgamer for such ill informed comments.

PC is objectively better. I'm just to poor to afford a PC to the level I'd want. Soon tho. Like you get everything you get with a console plus more.
Yeah unfortunately there is that large upfront investment you have to make to get into the ecosystem but after that it ends up cheaper in the long run and you get a much better and more customizable experience. Over the years I've found that you pay a bit more for hardware but save a ton on software and most importantly your collection is never left behind. Now that Microsoft is all in on PC and Sony is slowly making the transition with their biggest hitters you aren't going to miss much aside from Nintendo.

The thread title is console vs pc essentially. And you expect one side to not show up ?!

Yeah when I bought my PS4 I thought it was really weird how no one really talks. I guess scared to get banned?

I know dudes like to constantly buy hardware and worry about specs, but to me the real beauty of PC gaming is the freedom. I do hope consoles remain strong as a buffer state against the woke BS.
No. It’s because of private chat basically. And also toxic communities because any retard can buy a £200 console and talk shot online. So over time people stopped engaging.

Yep lol. You can always tell who doesnt game on PC, or havent gamed on PC for years, by what they say.:messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
funny thing whenever someone makes a thread about choosing console after years of PC gaming, you would never see me in those threads. i would not go in there and talk about console's deficiencies or PC's advantages. because that person just saw more value in consoles and shared their own excitement. there's no point in going in that thread and talking about PC advantages as if we're trying to persuade him. at best i would also congralutate for his choice. everyone one must find their own callings in life. consoles exists for a reason. its not like PC or console is perfect. if not, none of them would not exists for gaming purposes. as a matter of fact i can valiantly defend consoles for what they do as well. i myself admit that cost for PCs are too high ATM. it is not even the discussion. some of us value PC to a point where cost becomes a non factor. its like choosing a really comfortable car because you simply can afford it (in our case however, people try to bash on pc being uncomfortable with interesting takes and opinions that are mostly exaggerated )

yet when someone chooses pc for what it brings to the table, all kinds of people swarm the topic and quickly creates a heated discussion environment. no one was talking anything about consoles, until console people themselves came in and presented their "opinions" on how PC is "garbage" and trash. and when you give proper answers to them, they be like "oh they talk down on us, look at 'em". its really interesting how manipulative some of these folks are. practically they lure in you in a discussion, you give answers, then they scold you for giving answers. practically all they want is to present their opinions, and no one answer or dispute that answer, otherwise "you talked down on them"

look how much this topic derailed. the dude just shared his excitement, and we just applauded for him. then people swarmed in and trashed about PC

i'm also partly blame for giving such people the very attention they seek, i guess i will have to make some additions to my ignore list. i'm not going to make this mistake a second time, because we always find ourselves in the same spiral

To be completely honest, I got really down on PC gaming last year with all the mining crap and GPUs being unobtainable. I was so close to just writing it off and becoming a console only gamer. But after a while I really did miss gaming on PC and all the advantages it brings. So after trying a number of gaming laptops that just didn't come close to bringing me the PC gaming experience I expected, I was finally able to jump on a 3070 ti at near MSRP. Then I got the motheboard, CPU, RAM and I was rocking and rolling.

Happy to be PC gaming again.

I play both.

Console I find is perhaps a bit more relaxing. But I love playing on the PC as well, especially FPS games.
PS5 right now occupies most of my gaming time, but that might be due to it being the newest thing (for me).

I was the same with PS4 and GT Sport, was A+/S rank. But then i tried Assetto Corsa/ACC on PC and i was stunned how good it is in terms of physics, tyre phyiscs, handling etc.Now GT Sport/GT7 just feel like too arcadey.
Of course i play with wheel, if you're using controller those games are not worth it then..

GT maybe has bigger playerbase but honestly i think its quality vs quantity. Daily races are great in GT but almost every race has dirty drivers even in A rank.

For last gen console focused AAA games that had piss poor PC ports like Ryse, AC Unity and Arkham Knight you needed a top end PC CPU for the time (2015) to hope to maintain 60fps at 1080p.

If this happens again then it will be much harder to brute force performance because the absolute top of the line PC CPU's don't have 10 times the CPU performance of PS5/Series CPU's like PC CPU's did in 2015 over the console tablet CPU's.

Take a chill pill lol.

and 2 cores 4 thread g4560 can push 35+ fps in ac unity

no cpu has 10 times more cpu performance than ps4/xbox one. even in its best day, a single skylake core at 4 ghz is 3 times faster than a 1.6 ghz jaguar core.

1.1 ghz zen+ cores are equivalent to ps4 pro's jaguar cpus and here is its desktop performance in god of war

it practically matches ps4 pro performance. you don't need to brute force anything in latest titles

some games simply do not scale with IPC/single core. by your logic series x/ps5 should've ran all the games at a smooth silky 60 fps but it does not happen because things do not work as you envision. some game engines do not scale with IPC/single thread performance. some refuse to do so. this even affects the very consoles.

i can ran ac unity at 30 fps @1 ghz but it would struggle to run at a locked 60 fps @4 ghz despite the 4 times frequency. if you want to, i can just download the game and prove it to you.

elden ring works perfectly at a locked 30 fps on ps4 yet it drops frames all over on ps5/series x due to CPU. your logic does not even work for consoles themselves. by your logic, ps5/sx cpu is also 5 times faster than ps4/xbox one cpu yet here we are

do we take god of war, rdr 2, and even ac odyssey for example or three specifically broken ports at the start of the generation?

even in this video you can see that xbox one cpu... mostly matches xbox one cpu performance on desktop. (it cant one to one match one x performance because there are huge LOD cutbacks made on xbox version. you can see it in the video itself)

In other words, you could still have CONSOLE equivalent performance with a CONSOLE equivalent CPU on desktop even with those broken ports. its just that they did not scale forward. that is all.

so it wont happen because it never happened. if a game is designed to run @60 fps on a zen 2 core on consoles, it will run @60 fps on a zen 2 core on PC.

by the same virtue, it may be impossible to push 120 fps on console ports. i hope you get it

if game is specifically designed to run @30 fps target with 6 jaguar cores, then you can throw the world at it and it may refuse to scale. it all depends on the engine.

my first 3dfx card was an adrenalin rush, it had 6 meg on it, going from software quake 2 to all those colors blew my mind.

That's hilarious, dude. My first GPU was the Hercules Stingray 128 also based on Voodoo Rush. Their first card with 2D and 3D in one card.

You made the right choice OP. Don't look back. The only valid use cases for consoles the way I see it are if you have small kids or if you play specific games that shine on console, like sports games some fighting games or call of duty. Add specific exclusives to this list.

Consoles are fine and all, specially the Xbox ecosystem is more PC like these days with robust emulation options and BC. But to see the quarter century old arguments against PC gaming is tiresome.

PC gaming wiki is your friend.
