Xbox and Bethesda Showcase June 12th

It sucks that all the years it took Xbox to get to this point were the years I was most interested in gaming. Now they have an impressive first party with undoubtedly interesting projects on the Horizon. If only they were like at this point in the Xbox One Era.

What happened to that cyberpunk game that premiered at an Xbox show years ago and everyone was hyped for until the developer apparently was found out to be a piece of shit? Or used to be a piece of shit?

Any chance that will be there? Or did that already release and I completely missed it?

The Last Night and if we are to believe the developer, the game isn't dead yet.

Xbox hasn't gotten anywhere yet. They actually need to release first party games on a regular basis. Phil needs to put someone in charge who can get their projects under control. Its non-stop delay after delay. Trailer after trailer. So far only the Coalition has been consistent, but they can't put out a new game every year.

This is the one area that Sony is bitch slapping them.

Only the Coalition? Mate your whole post has lost all credibility with this stupid comment.

I still think Xbox has a surprise up its sleeve hardware wise that people are not going to see coming and seems to still be on track to come out this Holiday

Guessing that is

if it's a guess, put something behind it Dammit. "lollipop_disappointed:

What are we talking about here, Vr, a new handheld device? a bigger fridge, tumble drier?.

Except it's 100% correct and clearly has you triggered. The Coalition has run so many circles around every other first party exclusive from MS. 343 has released broken game after broken game. Fable is in a shit state. Stalker went to shit….

Sorry buddy I'm correct and you're wrong.

I know the chances are probably 0.000000000000000000000001%, but could they show anything about rumored Kojima project?

After the news that he is making Death stranding 2, I guess any other project seems impossible.

My spider-sense is tingling, and it's telling me the same thing. I'm expecting an Xbox handheld this holiday season, though, the announcement may not be during the June 12th showcase.

It's only has been 9 years since Don Mattrick left.

Phil needs to put someone in charge? He was in charge the whole time:
With the launch of the Xbox in 2001, Spencer joined the Xbox team and served as general manager of Microsoft Game Studios EMEA, working with Microsoft's European developers and studios such as Lionhead Studios and Rare until 2008, when he became the general manager of Microsoft Studios, eventually becoming the studio's corporate vice president a year later.

That's like a month after Shuhei Yoshida took over pretty much the same role at Sony. That's so long ago that Yoshida was able to make calls regarding Sony not publishing Demon's Souls on the PS3 outside Japan.

It's worth mentioning that Halo, Forza and Gears all existed before Phil was put in charge of Microsoft Studios. It's really impressive what he was able to get away with in 14 years of calling the shots at MS Studios.

In all seriousness, the core XB community needs to get away from the adoration of Phil and put more emphasis on demanding actual great games.
This year has been really bad so far, that's true. Last year was really good.
Competition doesn't seem to be doing so hot either with their last release on March and no date on the only announced game they have.
2022 seems to be really affected by Covid

I suspect the Xbox community knew they weren't going to get tons of great games on a limited budget and only 6 first party studios.

Well now, there's a whole lot more studios and MS is putting a ton of cash behind the division. Why 'demand' for stuff that's imminent?

A portable Series S?
Xbox Series Y

Let's forget about Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon, Age of Empires 4 and all the other completely not broken games since that would go against your argument.

What could MS do about Stalker 2, stop the war?

There's a showcase in a week or so, why would anyone get angry now? Unless they'd be some kind of squirrel disguised as a green rat.

Phil has done great things, but studio management has been his Achilles heel. Getting regular exclusives out in regular time intervals needs to be a priority.
Rod Ferguson is who they should call. Make him the head of first party development. That man knows how to get games done.

That is such revisionist history, MS was making investments all along and it's not like they were not trying, they just missed a lot. Managing Bethesda, Activision, Blizzard and all the other studios they acquired is going to be an even bigger challenge if anything and Phil's track records is beyond terrible.

Sure, if you ignore everything that didn't work out you are left with only a handful of studios but that is just what was left at the end and not what they had all along.

?

Gears 4, 5, and Tactics were all great. 5 had arguably the best campaign in the series. Both 4 and 5 had fantastic PVP. I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

EDIT: My bad, you're saying Microsoft has plenty of other good properties. Infinite has a fantastic base, and the Forza games are the best sims and arcade racers ever made. The Master Chief collection is amazing, and Flight Simulator is one of a kind. I agree with you.

And that's a poor reflection on their leadership. How is it that Sony can acquire a studio like Insomniac that has put out 2 Ratchet and Clank games, 2 (or 1.5) Spider-Man games and has another Spider-Man game out next year in just over 6 years and that is just ONE studio? While studios like 343 put out 1 game in that time frame?

Hmm 23 times they said Xbox with a Kojima sighting
MS buys Kojima Productions.

Turn out they were still tied to releasing Death Stranding 2 for Sony. Kojima releases Death Stranding 2 in 2027 and then retires from making games to become a movie director (bonus points if it turns out to be Sony's long awaited Metal Gear Solid adaptation that never gets released).

Not to mention that they were never delayed and were released without majorbugs.

Playground unveiled Forza Horizon 5 at E3 last year and released it just 5 months later and also managed to keep their winning streak of having the highest rated racing game for what is now 3 generations.

Hmm, I don't so far see it happening (though the "Xbox Series" model system opens up some intriguing possibilities...)

To start, MS has a spotty track record with handheld hardware and I would assume they'd be gunshy for a portable (I'm thinking Zune, Windows Phone... the Surface brand is doing pretty well though, and might have some insights for Xbox to tap in going portable, but that's a long walk down the hall between the two branches.) Then, getting the power level of even Series S into a portable would be tough, and going below Series S would be a nightmare for Xbox developers to conform their games to the Xbox line. (Some of those developers have already been cranky about cutting down to Series S, though thankfully so far everything has worked out and most nervousness around S has simmered down since launch.) Microsoft could introduce a "Series Portable Verified" system excluding the high-end Xbox Series games can play on its portable, but that would dampen interest in the handheld. And then, with Unreal Engine 5 Nanite/Lumen and more mature technology coming into usage, minimum specs are really going to matter again, and even Steam Deck has trouble running the Matrix Awakens sample (albeit with no optimization for Deck), so there's no room to go lower without cutting out an increasingly number of desirable titles. Also, don't forget, Xbox Series is built around high-speed data bandwidth (Steam Deck is not particularly fast and only has a UHS-I Memory Card slot, so although it does conform to PCIe and has a m.2 NVMe slot, we're talking 100sMB/s, not the SD Express range of GB/S needed to come near the Xbox Series S data delivery. Steam Deck's budget-price model also only has a 64GB eMMC, which would not cut it for Xbox usage.) An Xbox Streaming Stick could get around all of these issues, but streaming would not be the best way to market a portable, especially a high-priced portable. And after all that, all Xbox games also come out on PC anyway, so why bother when the audience that buys portable PC-based game machines is already available to them without having to breach the market themselves?

(The main reason IMO to get an Xbox-branded portable device out is because it's very difficult and increasingly tenuous to launch a streaming app on the hardware ecosystems available. Xbox Cloud Gaming has no Steam Deck app, not even a Mac app, it'll never be on PlayStation or Nintendo, there is an Amazon Fire app and the iOS and Android apps exist but every company is trying to launch a cloud streaming service so you never know if the plug might suddenly get pulled... If they want a piece of this market, they'd have to make a declarative statement, but they'll always be a far-distant fourth from the two mobile platforms and also Switch and maybe even might fall short to Deck, so that's murky water to jump into. They might be better off launching an "Xbox Series Certified" program for existing/emerging PC portables, like the Aya Neo devices?)

...But, all that said, I'd be happy to get an Xbox Series P if it did happen.

I forgot about Forza. Forza shits all over Gran Turismo in that regard.

I'm not sure if it's a comprehension issue or not, but 'limited budget' does not translate to 'no investment'.
According to Bloomberg

In 2013, the pricey Xbox One had a lackluster release. And the following year, in Nadella's first companywide strategy memo after taking the job, he defined gaming as outside Microsoft's core business, lumping it in with "other businesses in which we can have fundamental impact."

Contrast that with the situation today where Gaming is now one of the major pillars at Microsoft, budgets are dramatically increased and it's increasingly becoming interwoven with Azure, one of MS crown jewels.

Beyond dishonest to even try to put forward a claim that the situation in 2015/2016 is even remotely comparable to what we have now. But it's you, so...

Managing Bethesda, Activision, Blizzard and all the other studios they acquired is going to be an even bigger challenge if anything and Phil's track records is beyond terrible.

The only people who think this are jaffe and a coterie of console warriors here.

Sure, if you ignore everything that didn't work out you are left with only a handful of studios but that is just what was left at the end and not what they had all along.

I'm clearly referring to the Xbox One generation where they retrogressed.

But all this shit is an unnecessary derail for a thread to discuss the Showcase.

Unless they can figure out to get a handheld device with an AMD SoC at the power of the Series S, an Xbox handheld would be a failure.

They could do a competitor device to the Steam Deck that runs Windows, but they know that'd be a bad idea since most people would buy their games off Steam.

I think it's coming, but not this year since the tech is not ready yet. Probably one of the reason the S exist: to release a lower spec handheld that plays every xbox games.

I'm guessing you and I have a different definition of "Imminent."

Hmm 23 times they said Xbox with a Kojima sighting

Wait.... Wait... In Silent Hill 2 there's a code for a puzzle that makes up the number 23 if you match letters with the right numbers.... And then Kojima did PT which has an audio file with the number 23... So that means... OMG XBOX TWITTER ACCOUNT CONFIRMED XBOX KOJIMA SILENT HILL FOR THE SHOWCASE!!!!

I'd just like a FO New Vegas 2 announced and i'll be happy. Secretly hoping the Outer worlds 2 is a bluff and NV 2 is what they are actually working on lol.

Quake reveal that would be cool, if they can do for Quake what they did for Doom i'd be up for some of that.

Honestly with that delay of Starfield they need a big BIG few hitters to fill that gaping hole. I'd like to see The Quarry day 1 on GP and Ubisoft + released with a month free trial as an ultimate perk.

Throw in New Vegas 1 4K/60 remaster as a bundle. Reveal with game play and release date this year at the showcase. BOOM BABY BOOM.

IKR, It's only a bit more than a week before the show, might as well let them show their hand before complaining. 🤷‍♂️

Fingers crossed for some surprise announcements plus a great Starfield demonstration. Updates on some of the announced projects would be good too.

Last year was a strong year for Microsoft game studios, so what are you talking about?
Yup strong year last year and a strong showing last year as well. Obviously feeling the knock on from COVID just now, but expecting at least a couple surprises this year. IF Forza drops towards years end along with MWII ill be set for a while.

Obvious to say if you had a crystal ball but knowing about the delays now the smart thing to do would have been delay halo until it was actually ready( start of season 3).

Never say never.

Death Stranding 2 isn't 'confirmed' either btw.
