The difference could be down to thickness.

If I'm making a pasta sauce, such as a Ragu, I'll cook it from scratch then simmer it down for at least an hour until it's nice and thick.

Soups are normally a lot less thick than a sauce. A sauce is also an addition to a main cause (pasta in this case), where soup on its own can be a full meal. There is actually an Italian soup called Minestrone that's has small pasta or rice added to it.

However, as others have said, there isn't really any rules if you're cooking for yourself. You do you.

For me, I dont like too much sauce. Never eaten watery sauce and never will. If I have a big plate of pasta, I want enough sauce to cover around 75% of the pasta tops. Maybe even a bit less. I like eating my bites with some plain pasta. I dont think I've ever made pasta where I add the sauce and mix it all in the pot together. I do the pasta and sauce totally separately.

Funny enough, I hear genuine Italian chefs roll their eyes at people who hate on pineapple pizza. To them, it's about making the customer as happy with their food as they requested it, so the idea that there's an "impure" type of pizza is total bullshit.

No, it's just a soup

Pasta with broth or soup has a different consistency, softer because of the longer time of cooking, also a bit stronger taste. Pasta+soup is usually called "minestra".
Pasta with sauce is just tied to it with a thin layer created by the creaming with starch and sauce.
Another method is cooking the fresh pasta with the sauce, so you have a rice-y pasta called "risottato".

So it's a pasta with sauce if you cook separately the bean soup and tomato, but it has to be creamy, not liquid, and just a bit.
It's a minestra if you cook the pasta with all the soup.
It's a crime if you add ketchup, parmesan or ananas.

my post was just a joke. i've never ate pineapple on pizza but it sounds kinda nice! i can't even remember the last time i ate pizza...maybe about 5 years ago? lol. i just hate how snobby and elitist people get over a fucking pizza. it's basically a big half assed sandwich.

if people like pineapple on their pizza then i don't give a fuck. let them enjoy it. i couldn't give a fuck what people eat. i only care about what i eat. those italian chefs need to get over themselves because (i misread but..) you're right, they should just focus on keeping their customers happy.

i'm a basic bitch when it comes to pizza. i'm happy with a shit load of melted cheese, some tomato sauce, and pepperoni. maybe some mushrooms. if i'm feeling up for it i might get some spicy chicken too. there is no right or wrong way to eat pizza. get what ever the fuck you like on it. that's the "beauty" of pizza surely? people who take their food seriously and shit on others need to rethink their life.
