I had a Lumia 720 and then a 950 XL. 2 of my favourite phones I've ever owned alongside my Huawei P10. I have an unfortunate habit of supporting phone brands that seem to go to the wasteside. The only reason I retired the 950 was because I dropped it and cracked the screen.

I blame Phil Spencer

But in all seriousness get yourself an android phone and then install the square home launcher or the Microsoft launcher. Apple vs Android is a case of pick your poison, but at least with Android you can decide how it tastes, with Apple you have to take what you're given.
Tell me more!

And what happened after he said this? Jim Ryan called his ambiguous bluff.

In which after the CMA, they changed the tune to "as long as there is a PlayStation."

This drama would not be as such, if Phil didn't talk talk talk so much. The question still would have arose and still would have been a point of consumer concern by the CMA, however.
Still the same thing.
That conversation with Sony higher ups confirms that. So anything after that is pointless. The only adition variety is the length of the extension.

No, no it's not. The Jim Ryan reveal is what prompted the CMA to raise an eyebrow and wanting more concrete info.

You should see what Jim and Sony want. They want a perpetual contract. That wont work very well. Considering how bad that type of contract is.

That is the issue, which cma went all hefty against this deal.

That's the nature of these massive acquisitions. Especially when wanting to buy all the largest third party publishers. 🤷‍♀️

We are only paying attention to this noise, due to the players involved.

But business side, only stupid business would accept that type of contract.
CMA/EU/FTC needs to have a common ground with MS, on what contract should they have with Sony.
A contract which can satisfy both parties.
Until then, expect to hear more of this shit contract, and click bait articles.

So that's the reason I can no longer get a new windows phone. I blame you not Phil, he will bring Lumia back so he can put Game Pass and xCloud on it. "pie_tears_joy:"pie_tears_joy:"pie_tears_joy:

I went with iTard because Apple supposedly has better privacy policies and is not known for selling your info to absolutely anyone. What is the square home Launcher or Microsoft launcher and how does it prevent Google from continually spying on you, data-mining and selling you private info?

Did y'all say Lumia ?

That brings back memories .. I had a decent spell with the entry level Lumia 520 back in the day. The big colorful tile interface worked really good for a touch device.

Well my view is that all these companies have so much data on us nowadays that it's almost pointless trying to fight it on certain fronts. In the case of phones I think it's damned if you do damned if you don't. Yeh apple have better privacy policies but at the same time I'm pretty certain my ipad and Apple TV 4k are still doing a good job of tracking/spying on me considering the ads I get on those devices dependant of what I've been talking about or researching at the time.

I'm pretty much split between the two ecosystems. I have the aforementioned apple devices (used to also have a 27 inch imac before I went Linux for work), along with an apple one subscription. I also buy a ton of digital movies through apple. So they pretty much cover my media consumption needs (TV/movies/Music). Then on the google side I have my phone and 3 google homes set up around my home for my automation and scheduling needs (philips hue lights, audio & TV control, kitchen appliances, etc). It's pretty nice having the kettle automatically boil every day 5 minutes after I wake up.

So in summary, I've given in to the tech overlords and I'm fucked 😵‍💫

IDGAF what bullshit they spew, Apple will fold like everybody else the moment the Feds come a-calling. Petty officials on the local level are one thing, but you piss off the wrong wrong US oligarch, and Apple will start singing like a songbird.

We know the contract length through the Apple vs Epic court discovery. So the cutoff date was estimated to be 2027/2028 which ironically makes it a next gen Trojan horse offer.

Thus, "an additional 3 years" is a big difference from "it will always be on PlayStation as long as there is a PlayStation" which he was not so open about. He was ambiguous prior to the CMA investigation, which prompted Jim Ryan to call him out on it.

The man speaks like a politician.

There's no ambiguity there, though. MS President had earlier come out to say COD would remain on PlayStation.

The 'additional three years' refers to what they were willing to commit to in writing. Makes no sense to give up leverage in a legally binding sense. And as Phil mentioned, they never formally committed to making Minecraft multiplatform…and yet the games and every single spinoff comes to PlayStation day one.

Imagine sending a formal guarantee for perpetual COD on PlayStation and then Bungie's next shooter doesn't ship on Xbox. Where's the leverage?

About that
The second came a year later, and it was led by Spencer. He pushed Nadella to acquire Mojang, the Swedish developer of Minecraft, for $2.5 billion--a move that gave Microsoft exclusive control over the most popular game in the world at the time. The company could have easily forced people to buy a Microsoft platform if they wanted to keep playing Minecraft. Instead, Microsoft announced the game would continue to be available on all platforms, including those of its direct competitors. It was an unprecedented move for a publisher of Microsoft's size. "One of the first calls we got after the Minecraft acquisition was from Sony saying, 'Are you going to pull it off PlayStation?'," Spencer said. "And I'm like, 'Why would I do that? People like playing it on PlayStation.'"

About that
Sony loves thier in perpetuity contracts. It's why KH took so long to come to Xbox. KH3 coming, but they were shackled with the old contracts (for 1 and 2) until it became unaffordable for Sony to keep it up.

They want to have first dibs, and rights of first refusal while stringing some companies for years until time runs out.

Hopefully there is enough competition now, that publishers won't feel forced into these deals anymore.

the conversation if you bother to read it was Phil would get the sack if the deal did not go through, you proved my point. it doesn't lie with Phil its multiple people and yes he is included

It was a joke, dude.

Forced, my ass. Every deal has two willing parties.

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov 17 (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google has struck deals with at least 24 big app developers to stop them from competing with its Play Store, including an agreement to pay Activision Blizzard Inc (ATVI.O) about $360 million over three years, according to a court filing on Thursday.

Google also agreed in 2020 to pay Tencent Holdings Ltd's <0700.HK> Riot Games unit, which makes "League of Legends," $30 million over one year in a similar deal, the filing stated.

MS is getting free materials at no cost.

China's antitrust regulator is said to have rejected Microsoft's request to have its planned $69 billion purchase of Activision reviewed under a "simplified" filing.

China's State Administration for Market Regulation, or SAMR, is said to have rejected the request, according to traders, who cited two separate reports that were circulating on Friday.

Guess china wants a more concerate fillings.

Maybe not day 1, but 12 months after release? The potential to earn extra revenue is a hell of a motivator in business.

There's far more revenue earning potential in keeping Starfield (and other AAA games) exclusive to Game Pass to continue to attract subscribers and to avoid the expectation of "Oh sure, they say it's Game Pass exclusive but I'll just wait a year and they'll release it on PS5 like they did with Starfield."

Forced? How are they forced exactly?

Masses want what's popular and what everyone else has. Price isn't really a factor.
Price is a huge factor, since it increases the potential numbers of users who use the system, which inadvertently affects the popularity.

If something is popular and cheap, tons of people would buy it, compared to when its expensive.

Quest 2 is example of that. Cheap price and the standalone headset complement each other.

But it needs to be popular first. They won't buy it just because its cheap.

Seeking Alpha isn't the best site imo but if this is true this isn't the best news for Microsoft.
According to idas, it would be just like other regulator.
Yes, they wanted the simplified procedure (10 + 30 days) and they'll have to go through the normal process: Phase 1 (30 days), Phase 2 (90 extra days) and in this case a "This isn't even my final form" Phase 3 (60 extra days).

So, March - May 2023.

Now that you mentioned. That seems to be him. He usually lurks here.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4

I cant play shooter games on consoles. Tried on xbox, and lost too much.
I actually enjoy COD more on the PS5 because I can turn off crossplay and find games instantly.

I turn off crossplay at the system level on Series X and it takes awhile to find a game or leave it on and run into lobbies of KBM PC users

I don't mind the whole which is better KBM/controller debate I want to avoid the wall hackers on PC
