Based on what we know from Cade and other recent comments, big publishers like Ubisoft, EA, Rockstar have all said they are not concerned about the acquisition.

There is only one major holdout, 2 if you count Google. But Google telling anyone off with respect to competitive or anti-competitiveness is a pretty good joke.

I think Nintendo is happy to be considered a competitor in the video game market again. Many here tried to write them off as no longer competing in the gaming industry. Sony should be happy too because they have argued CoD is a vital input to gaming and without competition isn't possible. MS is saving Nintendo here and we are all better for it.

they have mentioned bringing this to Nintendo before, so no reprise there, only thing interesting is that now steam and Nintendo probably signed same deal that was offered to Sony. This now put Sony in interesting position not accepting this deal will show their hypocrisy.

There’s no mention of a time limit regarding Steam, or it being the same offer.

I don’t really understand why it’s hypocrisy? Say CoD right now makes Sony £800m per year (pulled from my ass). Sony don’t really need to do shit to get that money. For all Sony know, this income could continue as is (if left untouched) for the next 30 years. No one know when CoD will die in terms of popularity. For all Sony know, in 10 years time it could be generating £2b a year for them if either CoD or PS reaches new players. So yeah, why would they sign a 10 year contract when their preference is for things to be left as is, where they’ll have access indefinitely?

As for Nintendo signing the deal, no shit, they’ve not had a CoD game for how long? It’s literally a win for them with no negatives.

It's not that grandiose, they were making CoD on Wii and Wii U after all but I have very little doubt this is more an 'Activison benefits' move to port to switch being used for theatrics to get the deal done. MS don't really release their first party games on switch.

To your very misguided point, they are not making proclamations about IP they own, only commitments about support if/when the deal closes, hence the "following the merger" in Phil's tweets. Obviously they can't sign any legal paperwork on Activision's behalf right now. We all know that, you're not bringing up the gotcha you think you might be.

The reason for the snark is that you are literally the only person who is saying that this is somehow embarrassing for MS, it's great news for everyone especially Nintendo fans, and yes it does make for a very good bargaining chip against the regulators no doubt about that.

But, again, they are not signing any contracts, they only making commitments and the comments of carefully say that this will happen after the merger completion. So there is that one qualifier.

Well between the unions fully behind the deal and Nintendo officially being pledged support it is certainly a take to believe the walls are closing in and the deal is dead. I suppose we'll see how close to reality your predictions are. I saw you also talking about divestments too so well see how they can divest and make Nintendo versions of CoD.

Microsoft exces can pat themselves on the back after this week. Brilliant effort to get this deal through.
First whole CWA thing where CWA opted to recommend the deal which is huge, since FTC wanted to look to this deal through workers lens. Then ZeniMax QA testers proceeded to create a union and Microsoft honoured the commitment to CWA.
Then there was confirmation that they offered Sony a 10-year deal. And to make them look bad they made same deal with Valve and Nintendo, and while Nintendo and Valve accepted, Sony refused to accept it. Microsoft can now use it to point to the fact that Sony was building their entire case against this deal on the back of COD series, but they now refusing pretty generous deal.

Just masterclass of PR and influencing public opinion.

We’re happy that Microsoft wants to continue using Steam to reach customers with Call of Duty when their Activision acquisition closes. Microsoft has been on Steam for a long time and we take it as a signal that they are happy with gamers reception to that and the work we are doing. Our job is to keep building valuable features for not only Microsoft but all Steam customers and partners.

Microsoft offered and even sent us a draft agreement for a long-term Call of Duty commitment but it wasn’t necessary for us because a) we’re not believers in requiring any partner to have an agreement that locks them to shipping games on Steam into the distant future b) Phil and the games team at Microsoft have always followed through on what they told us they would do so we trust their intentions and c) we think Microsoft has all the motivation they need to be on the platforms and devices where Call of Duty customers want to be.

This might help with the FTC but i dont see why this deal with Nintendo and Valve would change the CMAs stance. The CMA noted that MS doesnt see Nintendo as a competition and CoD is already on Steam.
