Predict what will be your 5 favorite games of 2023, and we'll see how accurately it turned out one year from now.

DragoonKain

Neighbours from Hell
Obviously we don't know all of the games that will release in 2023, and some that were announced may get delayed, but based on the games we project as 2023 releases right now, predict what will end up being your 5 favorite games of 2023. Then a year from now you can check back and see if things went according to your expectations, if games disappointed, or if something unexpected came along that you loved more than games you expected to love.

I expect my favorite games to be:

Zelda Tears to the Kingdom
Octopath Traveler 2
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

Two games I wanted to put on this list very badly, but couldn't because I lost faith are Final Fantasy XVI(sorry Square, but FFVII Remake is the first FF title I've thought was really good in many years) and Starfield which I just don't trust Bethesda anymore. I don't think these games will suck, but I don't expect to walk away from them thinking they're great game experiences. Also, FFVII Remake part 2 was listed as "next winter" and considering winter starts at the end of December, I consider it unlikely as a 2023 game, but we'll see.

Looking forward to checking back and seeing how everything shakes out in a year.

This is just guessing obviously. I don't even have my 2022 list done yet. I know some indies will displace a few of these.

Why did you leave FFXVI (plus it's NG only) off the list if you thought FFVII Remake was really good?
Because FFVII is a Remake of a creation that is already great, so it's really hard to mess up. FFXVI is an entirely original concept, of which they've struggled with mightily lately IMO. I thought FFXV was so disappointing, as was the XIII series.

Not too different for me OP:

* Zelda: TotK
* RE4 Remake
* Diablo 4
* SW Jedi: Survivor
* Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

If Spiderman 2 comes out in 2023 then maybe replace Suicide Squad with it, because SS is the one I'm most shakey on, Arkham City and Knight are two of my favourite games of all time so I think RockSteady has the potential to make something I love but there are warning signs that say it might not be for me (I dislike MP games and want a pure SP take your time and explore the world game which this may not be) and/or that the studio magic is gone because too many of the original people have moved on (Sefton Hill & Jamie Walker for example).

Silksong
Tears of The Kingdom
Final Fantasy XVI
Spider-Man 2
Not sure what the last one will be, maybe Call of The Mountain

I know you said guessing but still... Pragmata?! Ya maddo, it could be a game about designing holo-outfits for the cat for all we know :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I hear you on the indies, maybe Tchia will be a sleeper hit for me and be better than a potentially disappointing D4, Jedi Survivor or Suicide Squad.

Hard to pick 5 TBH, my most anticipated games right now don't have release dates.

From games that do I expect RE4R will be great and I really hope Starfield doesn't suck. I'm looking forward to Outlast Trials - really enjoyed the beta playtest.

Armored Core VI -since the Ace Combat series was revived, this was my next most wanted series return.
DoDonPachi DaiOuJou - M2 Shottriggers -amazing game, M2 are gods, and one step closer to the original DDP hopefully.
Halo Infinite Season 3+ -still the best competitive FPS out there. The main reason I still play modern games. Forge is great, the newest Nov 2022 official maps are ace and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Final Fantasy XVI -the most next gen looking game to my eyes. Next gen starts here.
Street Fighter 6 - I got in the 2nd beta and didnt like the game at first - but warmed up to it. Now a week later, im going thru withdrawals. That one will give me years of replay value for sure.

I just know it's a new Capcom IP. I'm a glass half full kinda guy I guess. :messenger_sunglasses:

And if you're designing outfits for a cat then it's definitely in my top 5 lol.

I was this close to putting Silksong instead of Eiyuden Chronicles, but my love for Suikoden wouldn't let me. Hope the game doesn't disappoint me, I've been craving a Suikoden-like experience for years.

Me too pal, Capcom have been pumping out a filthy stream of dirty games the last 5 years, absolute cracker after cracker. I'm not even into Monster Hunter World but I can see why it blew up.

Biohazard is my jam, RE7, RE2+3 Remake and 8 have all been stellar for me personally. Especially the latter 3, 7 lacked some of the RE elements I love, so I just watched a playthrough on youtube (The EZA one, with Huber and Kyle, its a brilliant game to watch for me), might try and play it with a woman I enjoy scaring sometime though.

Without knowing the full line up, these are the 3 that stand out to me the most.

(Diablo 4. Unfair top spot since 2000 hour multiplayer game with mates)

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
2. Resident Evil 4 Remake
3. Final Fantasy 16
4. Hollow Knight Silksong
5. Starfield

Starfield is my obvious #1, been waiting for something new from Bethesda since Skyrim, the setting and No Man's Sky similarities fits me like a glove too as a NMS fan. My only concern right now is the first person gun combat, hoping there will be some kind of magic or cool cyberweapons.

Spider-Man 2 is my #2 since Miles Morales was one of my favorite games this year (LTTP, played it through PS+) and Insomniac can't miss.

Forza Motorsport 8 is my #3, Turn 10 has worked longer than usual on this one and I just have high hopes that they'll get it right this time.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is my #4, I loved BOTW and if it wasn't for the Switch I would have this as #1 or #2 but unfortunately I think it'll be held back a lot because of the old hardware.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is my last one at #5, but it's a gamble, I love Metroidvanias and it's a new IP which is cool, but as always with this genre it's hard to know if they manage to pull the right strings for me.

If theres even one nobber in here complaining about Zelda TotK you'll have to answer to me, I'll throw an extremely sturdy-looking but actually extremely fragile sword at your head for 2x damage.

I forgot about Diablo IV. Shit.

Forza Motorsport
Like a Dragon Ishin
System Shock Remake
Songs of Conquest (I don't play early access games)
Dead Space Remake

I'd also love to add Alan Wake 2 and STALKER 2, but I think the chances of them releasing in 2023 are slim.

FF16
Spiderman 2
SF6
Suicide Squad
Starfield

Maybe LoU MP if that comes out but we don't know yet. Like a Dragon Ishin too!

1.Starfield
2.Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
3.Hogwarts Legacy
4.Warhammer 40k: Space Marine II
5.Atomic Heart

Will probably put more than 200h into Starfield. The type of game that comes only 2-3 times in a console generation. It's an event, like Witcher 3, 2077, ME Trilogy etc. Nothing from next year even comes close for me.

Oh damn, i forgot about Stellar Blade

I got this to tide me over until it releases:

(Diablo 4. Unfair top spot since 2000 hour multiplayer game with mates)

Almost same playtime here for me, maybe even approaching 2500 hours, except most of that was on my own, I can't imagine how many hours if there was always someone else there to play with. I used to play with a South African couple with VC but then one day they had a massive domestic argument over something non game-related and it was awkward and after a bit I was like... uhhh shall we go do a rift? They never came online again after that session lol.

Then another woman I played with was in Israel during a more intense period of rocket attacks, she went offline one day and never came back online 😟 I do think Diablo 3 was just an endless game she was playing to take her mind off it and she just stopped playing one day rather than a more sad end to the story than you can imagine

1. Spider-Man 2
2. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
3. Diablo 4
4. Blasphemous 2
5. Final Fantasy 16

Games I hope to be surprised by; Stellar Blade, Lies of P, Fire Emblem Engage, Exoprimal and Hogwarts Legacy.

Well my list will probably be the oddest but here we go
Double Take Idk GIF by Laff

Safe bets if released in 2023...

1) Forza - Had been getting a bit stale but was still my favorite simcade series so hoping this reboot will bring some new life to it and restore my love for it. But even if it remains stale it is bound to remain my favorite simcade series.
2) Spider-Man 2 - It would take a miracle for them to get this so wrong that I wouldn't like it compared to the first one and Miles Morales.

Not safe bets but being optimistic if released in 2023...

3) AEW Fight Forever - I'm a big fan of AEW and a big fan of the old AKI wrestling games so really hoping they deliver on their vision. Technically it isn't going to wow but if they nail the gameplay that can be overlooked. I am long overdue for another great wrestling game in my life so please be it.
4) Stellar Blade - Seems like the kind of action game I enjoy unless I am getting a wrong read on the game and dat ass.
dat ass GIF

5) Final spot is a toss up between Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition and Tekken 8 if Tekken 8 releases in 2023. Company of Heroes is one of the PC series I have missed since quitting PC gaming so happy to see it coming to consoles finally but this kind of game can go horribly wrong on a console if not done right. Recent Tekken games have been a letdown but I will always get massively hyped for them and hope they get back on the right track. I will go COH3CE just because it is confirmed for 2023 while Tekken 8 isn't.

--------------------------

I'm sure I have completely forgot something that should be on here. I just don't play my Switch anymore so I can't get hyped for something like Zelda. Starfield gameplay gave me Fallout vibes and I could never get into Fallout so it was a hype killer but will obviously be downloading it with Game Pass day one and hoping I'm wrong. Hoping for some good VR experiences from the PSVR2 but all that will hinge on the PSVR2 itself delivering so can't list any of those without some hands on experience. Never got into Harry Potter but going to support Hogwart's Legacy just because of all the ridiculous hyperbole around it from certain sites and forums. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown was another that could have slipped into spot 5 since I loved the original and love a good open world racer but need to see more. If Skate releases this year I am hopeful for that too but ever since it was announced as free to play I went into caution mode with my hype. What else?

Too many games coming out, but I'll try:

TLOZ:TOTK
System Shock Remake
Like a Dragon: Ishin
Like a Dragon: Gaiden
Space Marine II

If Dragon's Dogma 2 happens to release in 2023 that will be the one tho.

1. Baldurs Gate 3
2. Space Marine 2 (spoiler: it will get delayed so Diablo 4 as a replacement pick)
3. System shock remake
4. Suicide Squad
5. FF16 if it somehow comes out on new years eve haha otherwise Starfield
I wont count Hades 2 as its early access and Judas + Tempest Rising because they have no set release date otherwise they would be my top picks

5. Octopath Traveler 2

I think I typed out 10 different lists and I'm still not sure.

Guessing I'd say:

FF16: Because I trust the team behind it and everything they have shown looks great
Hollow Knight Silksong: Because the first one is my favorite Metroidvania and one of my favorite games from last gen
Tears of the Kingdom: Because the first one was great and they've been working on this for a long time
Sea of Stars: Looks great IMO, they seem to be capturing that SNES era RPG vibe while adding a modern twist to it
Like a Dragon Ishin: Have been waiting so much time to finally play this!.

That's right, I don't think Tears of the Kingdom will be in my top 5 next year!

No particular order...

Starfield
Silksong
Baldur's Gate 3
Atomic Heart
Stalker 2

... bonus: indies games like Replaced, Colony Ship, Zoria, Mandragora, Songs of Conquest, Tempest Rising, Dune: Spice Wars, etc, look interesting.

Uhhh….

Looking like the weakest year of the gen so far
Do you only play Sony 1st party stuff or what's the deal?
Silksong, Starfield, Zelda TOTK, Diablo 4, Forza 8, Atomic Heart, Final Fantasy XVI, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Star Wars Jedi 2, Baldur's Gate, Street Fighter 6, etc etc etc.
The problem here should be to only list 5 games lol
