Dead Space Remake |OT| Dead Face lift

Beat it last night. There are large parts of this game that I straight up don't remember. I'd have to replay the original game to see what was exactly was different about it. The only thing I can say is the zero g sections and turret section were better in the remake.

I haven't played the original in over a decade so I've forgotten most of it.

With the PS5 issue seeing a fix (or at least an improvement) I'll finally be jumping into my playthrough tonight.

EDIT: Can confirm it looks great now. Glad they got it fixed fast.

So real talk.

OG Dead Space is available on game pass. Do you guys feel the remake is really 70 dollars better than the OG which I already have access to ?

IMO yes, easily. This one is between remake and reimagining territory IMO (if the extremes were TLOU vs RE2make), and the gameplay improvements are like night and day.
 
I just finished the game on hard and REALLY liked the game, so much so I might do new game + right away. I really liked what they did with side missions especially the part Isaac talks about how he loss his parents to unitology and how he kind of blames Nicole for that, that was strangely hunting.

I feel like in this remake I used much more variety weapons, in original game I mostly used Plasma cutter and Force gun for crowed control but thats it. In Remake I never thought Flamethrower be such useful weapon especially it secondary fire was really powerful.

Anyone having trouble getting the 25 items in storage / wishbone trophies/achievements to pop? I've put way more than 25 items in storage at this point and nothing
 
It's been frustrating as fuck not being able to afford this game when it released, but stoked it turned out so good.

Going to get it as soon as I have money to spare 24ish hours from now.

I have fond memories of the originals, and my girlfriend (who is terrified of jump scares) has never experienced the games before, so this should be fun 😅

Finished it over the weekend in two sweaty 5 hour session while my better half was away on work.

Fantastic. Takes a stone cold modern classic and gives it a lick of paint and enough grease to keep the wheels turning in 2022. Look forward to them inevitably remaking DS2.
 
Ooooooh, the injured puppy walking animations on the infectors when you do enough damage is soo cute.

Yeah, the game is really excellent. I never played the original but always was meaning to. This was definitely worth the wait. Turning it into a single interconnected environment, RE-style, was absolutely the right shout. Game feels massive and labyrinthine and a real joy to explore.

My main gripe, if I had one, is the ammo situation later on - once you have the full compliment of weapons it starts to feel like you've only got a couple of shots on each and this is a pain as most weapons have a specific usecase. This is compounded by the fact that enemies start dropping credits rather than ammo as you get deeper into the game. This wouldn't be such a huge problem if ammo wasn't so expensive to buy (to the point of being kinda pointless, imo). Enemies typically drop 1-400 creds at a time, but you'll need 1200 or so just to buy six rounds for your Plasma Cutter.

It's a minor gripe, and the game is otherwise fantastic (particularly post-patch), but something I'd definitely tweak if I was Motive (at least on regular difficulty).

Yup, it';s way better now. Now they need to add Texture Quality option for GPUs with 8GB VRAM + VRAM counter to tweak settings and avoid VRAM related stutters.

Been playing this since yesterday. In my minds eye, this is what the original game has always looked like and I'm too afraid to boot the original 2008 game so as not to shatter my mental image lol

These Dead Space games are always easy to pick up with tight mechanics. For original-immersion I'm playing with the DS2 control scheme (I hate spring on L stick).

I'm enjoying this and I think they've done a great job, but I'm sort of just going through the motions, having played the game only a couple years ago, for the second time.

I also think it's cementing that I prefer Dead Space 2, which has a great pace and a little more set-piece variety to keep things interesting.

I feel like the gameplay is a little more limited here. Less environmental hazards or unique necromorphs.

That's not to say I don't think this is a fantastic remake. It really is. Highest recommendation for anyone who hasn't played these games as much as I have.

I'm considering dropping my "hard" play through, a few hours in, and starting over on "Impossible", for that sense of tension. I'm not sure if I'll be missing out on anything by doing this.

Anyone else jump straight into Impossible?

Finished this on Hard last night. This is my Resi 2 Remake. I love Dead Space (2 even more than 1), and this remake is hands-down better than the OG. Graphics, acting, story/lore, gameplay.

The sub quests were backtracky, but there were only like 4 of them, and I liked that it gave me a better idea of how the different sections were laid out, since it gives you a reason to explore after all doors are unlocked.

Motive had great awareness (and apparent talent!) to change what were the weakest parts of the OG. Particularly the turret section and the Leviathan boss fight (which was the perfect level of difficulty and spectacle in the remake imo).

If I'm not mistaken, the remake begins to diverge from the OG even more towards the end. Made me feel like Motive got more confident as they went along.

I believe Motive could make a decent new DS at this point. Contrast this to Bluepoint, who I'm not so sure could make a Bloodborne 2, for example; simply because Motive showed they could improve and expand on gameplay content whereas I haven't seen Bluepoint do the same yet

Finally managed to get some time in, been sick since last Wednesday so not been feeling up to much gaming at all.

The 2nd Chapter really shines as a immersive horror game, the part with the Captain especially, I'm playing on hard and its catching me out a few times on Health, not died yet but very close. I do like the new Pulse Rifle Alt fire, but man the gun is fucking weak right now
 
Just finished the game. It was amazing.

It was everything i loved about the original, but improved in every aspect.

i'm hoping they announce a remake of Dead Space 2 soon.
 
I think I mostly used the Plasma Cutter, Pulse Rifle, and Line Gun during my last playtrhough of the original.

I'll have to give other weapons a try, like the Flamethrower.

Flamethrower can be very useful if invest some upgrade for it, especially its secondary fire. To me Pulse Rifle's grenade is the only thing useful about that weapon, its normal shot even with decent upgrade take much more bullet to kill compare to other weapons. Ripper also very useful with proper upgrade I can use one blade to kill off two or three enemies.

Best thing about Dead Space its never frustrating to fight multiple enemies, because you have many tools to do proper crowed control.
 
I got to the part where the Hunter appears and that encounter is the most stressful thing I've dealt with so far in the game. Trying to run away from it while your oxygen is running low with enemies attacking you just about killed my heart.
 
I hope this game could sell well to sustain a DS2 remake. Nowadays AAA games production cost are crazy even more expensive than that in 2008. Old trilogy had a crazy amount of budget on marketing campaign. DS 2 had 2 anime movies, 2 mobile games and some novels before release.

Imagine they remake the whole Sprawl/Titan Station into inter-connected explorable world like this remake, it would feel like Talos Station in Prey but more magnificent in scale and diverse environment, basically Raccoon City in space.

OG Dead Space side characters are largely generic and forgettable, most of them only exist in cutscene/audio log. Motive did a great job on improving and extending the lore in the remake. Nicole and Dr Mercer in the remake are further fleshed out and better written. Hunter also got extent lore exploration. Even super minor characters in the original like Chen, Jacob Temple and Elizabeth Cross all got their spotlights.

Dead Space 2 side characters are most interesting and intriguing in the whole trilogy. I cannot wait when they would do with Elle, Cross, Tiedeman, Diana and even Nicole ghost(if the DS2 remake happens). OG DS2 was shorter than OG DS1 so I could see they add OG DS 2 DLC campaign extractions characters into DS2 remake.

I quit hard mode, started the game over on "Impossible", and realized that, for me, this is the only way to play.

I feel no tension with the forgiving checkpoint system on the lower difficulties. I need real consequence to bolster the sense of dread the game is selling me on.

I know this is personal preference, but it draws me in so much more when everything is on the line. It makes it feel like a true horror experience. I'm scared of every enemy and every sound, whereas beforehand, I was just sort of sleepwalking through.

If I do die and lose all progress, it's going to sting like hell, but it's just the way it has to be.

Just finished the game on PS5. Forgot how amazing DS1 was. Let's hope they remake 2 and 3.

Edit. Took me 11:24 to beat on medium difficulty. Will do new game plus down the line.

Pretty cool nod to Dead Space Downfall in the hangar bay when u can enter zero g there. It's on the left side when u leave the starting area and enter zero g at the end of chapter 2.
 
Purchased the physical copy on PS5. Got up to chapter 6. Played up to an area where you have to inject these fuckers so it stops the gas from slowly poisoning the air around you. I get to the area where you need to insert the battery to give the area anti gravity and fly to to the top of the level to inject the 6th creature but, he's not there! I know the area he's meant to be but he isn't showing up. Luckily there are saves from just before I entered that area. Do everything like normal and what do you know- he appears now and I can move on.
I had another glitch where I started the game from a save, so it's zoomed into the save pad on the wall. When I continue though the camera is stuck in the mat position and won't move! I can hear my character moving and shooting but the camera is stuck. I restart and all is good. Minus that (and enemies getting stuck to your character as you're walking or randomly shaking involuntarily on the ground) game is fantastic on PS5 and I'll look at completing it by this weekend.
 
Am I the only one who can only really play in 30 or 40 minute spells? I just find the whole thing incredibly oppressive though am definitely enjoying it.

This kind of game is sorely missed, I really hope it can show some Resident Evil style legs and reach 8m+.

While I agree with the sentiment, permadeath is also a curse, as you can die in dumb ways u had no control of, or bugs or whatever, and while Dead Space isnt a VERY long game, its still annoying af to restart the whole thing over and over with the chance that you might get fucked again randomly. Theres a difference between being scared of the enemies and game, and being scared of not dying randomly and wasting your time. Still afaik Dead Space does allow you to continue but on lower difficulty in case you get fucked, instead of restarting. So at least theres that.

have to say that upon completing it, I am really impressed.

In part due to how beautiful the presentation was, and of course the gameplay being honed up... but mainly because I didn't enjoy the original game that much.

They really took what I personally felt was a 6/10 and elevated it to a solid 9/10. Horror is subjective, of course, but I personally don't find space horror / gore horror scary in the slightest. They amped up the real horror for me, the psychological horror and unknown fears elements. The AI randomizer thing got me good a few times, too. This game has a much more fleshed out story and characters than I remember, which I felt was lacking in the original... I was really invested by the end.

Not to mention the sound design and OST, god damn, this thing was a treat for the ears.

Closing thoughts is that it's a shame we dont get this level of polish and quality in a new IP these days, at least it feels that way. Everything looks good but lacks the depth the older games had.

Beat the game, a little over 12 hours. A bit shorter than I expected but great fun nonetheless.

Gonna wait for the patch to drop before the NG+ and alternate ending.

It's weird how much I don't actually remember from the original, because a lot of this feels new but then you remember a room or you get a sense of deja du

It's like watching a TV show or film you haven't seen in years, you remember it.....but you don't and then you do and you're like now I remember.
 
After the first week, was it worth the $70? I held off at the last second because I was replaying Dead Space 2. Wondering how everyone feels after they finished it? I had the game back at launch.

Easily! I loved original Dead Space but this remake made game better in every way from, story to combat and even entire level design in Ishamura. I liked so much that as soon as I finished the game I started new game +.
