Dead Space Remake |OT| Dead Face lift

If Atomic Heart wasn't so close, I don't think I would be able to resist. The remake looks tastefully done. I've read some negative stuff about the AI director flooding levels with too many enemies, taking away some of the pacing tension. Any impressions on this aspect? Some reviews don't mention it.
Light spoilers for the first twenty minutes but so small not worth the tags.

I played the game on hard first expecting it to be only a little harder. When you are fixing the tram, in the original maybe 4 or 5 enemies come into the room. I was hit with 10. I had to turn it down to medium and I've never noticed a problem since.

So I assume we'll be getting a Super HD treatment for Dead Space 2 then some point soon...are they going to do the whole trilogy?

Honestly after beating it less than an hour ago, I can say that I never really experienced anything like that. Everything felt paced really well. The only time it felt a bit chaotic was when it was meant to. Y'know, boss encounters and such. But it was never annoying, frustrating, etc. Felt very fitting to me. Maybe it's just subjective?

Personally, I don't think I have any complaints whatsoever. Even if it didn't have New Game+ and some extra content, I'd still be very happy. It was handled with extreme care, which is all I wanted.

Folks have already said there's an Easter egg that mentions The Sprawl, the location of DS2. So, I think it's fair to say it's gonna happen. I'm sure the game sold very well too. If this game is any example, I look forward to them remaking the entire trilogy, and making 3 much better, lol.

Then, maybe making a brand new game/spin off.

Some people need to take deep breaths and just step away from everything. Jesus Christ the shit coming out of this dude's mouth, lmao. Honestly, I feel bad for people like this that can't just enjoy something. Turn your brain off to everything that "bothers you" and just get immersed.

Game is fantastic. I almost forgot how much I adored Dead Space, it's so good to be back. Just beat the campaign and hitting up New Game+ now.

I really look forward to seeing what they do with the IP in the future. I don't want Dead Space going dormant ever again.
HOW DARE YOU TO HAVE FUN

Heads up: I got softlocked on Chapter 7: Into the Void. When you're in the middle of the Find/Place/Launch SOS Beacon sequence DO NOT LEAVE TO DO SIDE OBJECTIVES. I was unable to return to the mining area after doing the side mission to collect a few RIGs.

The weapon balance is still off.. the starter weapon still is the best.
I only ever use the flame for irritating enemies. I think i finished this game like 5 times. Every single time i tell myself to use another weapon but i always hate it and swap back to the main one

Motive should make a Dead Space 4 that is huge and expansive like the first Mass Effect
Motive haven't shown that they can make an original game that is of high quality. Battlefront 2 single player they made was meh and Star Wars Squadrons was a smaller project that had story and characters as its weakest point (as was the case with Battlefront). Let's see how they do with Iron Man (their next big original project) before they're handed responsibility of making new Dead Space.

And for everyone that's getting upset about it or getting upset because people are bitching about it, just let it go.
Roll your eyes or laugh at it.
Sure that toilet sign (and I haven't even seen this yet, maybe I'm not paying attention)would never have been in the original but the majority changes could have been and people wouldn't have said shit.
People shouldn't have a have problem with the changes other then they been changed and the mindset of the person on the development team that thought they needed changing.

i'm on team plasma cutter for sure, but the ripper feels OP to me. especially after you add ricochet

the assault rifle is damn near useless on "hard" mode, takes 50 rounds to kill anyone. the only useful mode is the secondary

On Series X, quick resume works flawlessly. Been doing a couple hours here and trying to finish Plague Tale Requiem with a side of Witcher 3. Jumping between the 3 is legit great with quick resume.
Expected better graphics though. Also hard is too hard (takes what 5 -6 shots to break a limb) and medium is too easy (takes 2 shots to cut the limb).

A few people here have complained about the textures of Isaac's suit looking like shit. Well, his starting suit looks a LOT better than the upgraded ones (texture wise), so I'm guessing this is a bug issue, not a lack of textures issue.

How is it gaf? Getting back from Europe on Tuesday, already bought this, Hogwarts and returnal, finally some fucking games to play.

Will my 3080ti suffice?

It's Dead Space.
Graphics are okay but obviously a big step up from the original.
They've changed a few text logs, signs and person details of characters to please Era folks.
But other then that it's great 👍

Chapter 9, playing in chunks and I having absolute blast. I haven't replayed the original since 2008 so while I remember story beats and some levels and encounters (less than the sequel tbh), I can't really tell if this is a good remake.

But it sure is a damn good sci-fi horror, gameplay totally holding up despite being over a decade old at its core shows just how good it was back then.

The biggest bummer is still performance mode on PS5, sometimes gets so bad it's giving me retro pixeled 3d vibes... I think my brain filters it out by now and sitting far from the TV helps I guess but I really hope they patch it.

Nicole does look much older I guess? but I can't believe people are bitching about an NPC having smaller tits or race swaps on posters, like how can anyone even notice that.

I'll likely dive right into NG+ tomorrow.

Couple of things bother me about this remake. While all the gameplay and environment changes are for the better, some of the changes to the story are very questionable and don't really add anything to improve the game, rather it's just a different take on the original.

The first problem is Kendra's personality. I'm really not sure why they had to go and make her a more sympathetic and likeable character who is just doing her job as it adds nothing to the story. The original Kendra was more interesting and had her actions towards the end fit her personality. In the remake she's way too nice and empathetic for someone who will backstab you and leave you to die on Ishimura. This change to her character is just a different take on her that adds nothing to the game.

The second needless change imo was the end with Nicole actually being Elizabeth Cross. This once again doesn't add anything to the original, it's just a different take. The original was just fine with Isaac imagining Nicole the whole time due to hallucinations. I do find this change being much less of an issue than changes they made to Kendra, a central character in the game.

I will also mention as a bonus point that changes made to character appearances and some of the race swapping to be another area that Motive should have kept their hands off of. The original already had a very diverse cast so more "diversity" just feels forced and unnecessary.

Overall Motive made all the right changes when it comes to gameplay and environments, but some of the other changes they made just feel like they wanted the game to have their imprint on it, as these changes add nothing to the game. This is where I believe Motive overstepped the boundary and just messed with artistic vision of the original.

Technically it just doesn't cut the mustard. Poor showing by the devs, don't know if they the right resources but the loadings tell the tale here. If your data management is this poor, and your performance is this poor, on a game that isn't pushing boundaries….

I had to watch that first gif several times before I realized it was the same scene. Holy shit.

This hard mode is VERY generous with ammo uh?!

I'm like 3 hours in and i have like 100+ bullets for the plasma cutter and even more for the rifle.

Don't worry it gets much rougher later on, especially when start encountering enemies with red eyes and soldier armours that takes much more bullets to kill.

I really like how they decide to side missions here.

there is no word on a patch, no official acknowledgement besides someone from EA on reddit saying they're working on it. for something of this magnitude to be this fucked up day one on a 70$ game is unacceptable. its been 4 days since this game came out and im still waiting for them to fix it, just unbelievable

not one review mentioned this yet its prevalent in vanilla 1.0 version as well, i noticed it immediately when exiting the ship after the intro, everything was shimmering and like a switch port while at times it looks fine

Did they give Isaac voice lines like 2 & 3 or is he still a silent protag?
He talks. And it fits perfectly. In fact, even if I played the original Dead Space several times, now playing the remake I can't imagine him being silent.
I was concerned about him being voiced in the remake, but A) it's Isaac's VA from 2 and 3 (yay!) and B) he only speaks to other characters. He isn't going into a creepy room and making Marvel quips to undercut the tension. I'm actually a fan of how they handled it.

We knew it was going to be this - the devs had stressed this multiple times.

PC patch is out. 158 MBs only. I guess it's just to turn off VRS, no other improvements, I reckon.

With the solution a guy offered two days ago to manually remove VRS from the ini file, all the stuttering during play ceased. The game would run a lot better.

But I guess it's nice to have that option built-in the game and not have to tinker with the ini file now.

Having the devs say something and having it actually be the case isn't a given...

Patch notes (not full):

Addressed PS5 performance related issue.
Added a new option to disable VRS on PC.
Addressed various glitches and bugs.
Addressed an issue related to black screen issues.
Added stability and performance fixes.
Added general stability fixes.

It's true, I didn't realize until you mention it. He speaks only when it would be normal to speak: when asked. That's the problem I have with silent characters, that they don't talk when are asked directly. But as you said, then he don't speak when nobody would talk, for example exploring alone. And that's great.

Problem with actual games regarding dialogs is that they make the characters to verbalize in loud voice what normally would be only thoughts. They think in loud voice, making them annoying and unrealistic.

I have the original Dead Space but never played it. I don't want to spend extra money on this game. Am I missing out on too much?

It's definitely the best way to play it even with the stupid new additions requested by Era

Edit: new update out.
Wow that's a big difference on PS5.
