I have a gaming PC that is exclusively connected to my 4K TV. PS5 controller + Mini-Keyboard for basic Windows / UI navigation and you are set.
After being a console player for last 6 years, buying a gaming PC is probably the best decision i made in gaming

If you think big picture has the intuitiveness of a console, you are simply lying. The main reason why you got a console, is because you wanna play all the best games, not just a part of it.

Last of Us 2, Tsushima, Returnal, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Ratchet & Clank, Bowser's Fury, Forbidden West, Spider-Man, Smash etc... etc....
These are just a few games off the top of my head. One thing is to miss a few of these, but if you miss all of them, you are out of touch with a significant part of the games market. And if you go past the last 2-3 years, or look at the previous gen, if you were a PC-only gamer, you practically lived in a cave.

returnal, it is literally the most high budget+average unreal engine game ever. i have zero care that im not able to play it. even if it is ported to PC, I would not even care
ratched clank, gimmick above average game. maybe you can make an argument for its ray tracing modes and for its graphics. then again, i don't give a care
forbidden west, a mediocre wannabe farcry that takes itself serious but lacks compelling story telling. at least far cry games do not take themselves serious anymore. setting is interesting but execution is pretty poor. aside from the interesting setting and concept, gameplay and game mechanics are nothing to be miss out on. when i played horizon zero dawn, it was one of the most disappointing "ps exclusive" experiences i've ever had especially after my friend recommended it so much. it was devastating, not going to lie, to find a bad far cry copy that tries to tell a story through bad dialogues

nintendo games are available only on nintendo and if you're a pure PS gamer (since you assume xbox players are pure xbox players, i also assume you must be a pure PlayStation gamer, so you're also missing out on them). technically PC players can play these games, specifically BotW at a consistent 60 FPS at 4K with a GPU from 2016, gtx 1070. I would say most PS/Xbox/PC players are missing out on BoTW though.
if i were to my own list it would be: god of war ragnar+ tlou2, spiderman, bloodborne. i would be "hyped" if these 4 particular games are ported to PC, but that's about it. i'm not going to burn my PC just for the sake of 4 games that are released across 8 years

Oh and yes those games will be coming to PC at some point, unless you have been living ina cave for the last couple of years. And like i said earlier, unlike console gamers living game to game, PC gamers have more than enough to keep them going between games, hense why Epic Shitstore exclusives sell so well on Steam when the year of exclusivity is gone.

Entry level mini PC's and laptops with iGPU's starting in late 2022-early 2023 with 5G/Wifi6e make PC gaming available to a broader non-gaming consumer
iphone/android phones can game and its available to anyone who wants to game without worrying about needing certain CPU's/GPU's for their hardware requirements because its powerful enough. But now with intel/amd iGPU's comming later this year and next year, consumers can finally play AAA games like forza, gears, god of war running fairly smoothly and online play out of the box. I think this has been the greatest barrier to PC gaming.

Tlou2, it bore me a lot, very bad pacing and the story felt like a cheap TV drama to me. Same with Tsushima, although I had more fun with that one before dropping it in Act 2. Horizon is boring too. Never tried the Spider-man game, since I'm not too much into super heroes.
I've played all the Zeldas and Marios, they are cool yeah. That why I've always said that a Nintendo console + PC is the perfect combo, although with how much the Switch emulation scene is improving, one could argue a PC is enough.
But as I said, this is all subjective. As you can see your "best games" are kinda lame to me. If I'd like to speak about my best games as of late, I guess most of them will be multiplatform, but there are also some PC exclusives like HL Alyx, RimWorld or Factorio, those two I've put a lot of hours into, and I kinda guess you'll see them as lame games.
Anyway, still waiting on your reasons as to why Big Picture isn't a solution to the problem of "oh shit I have to walk around a bit to play a PC game on TV" problem you were talking earlier.

And PC do have lots of the best games as they pointed out. You can't play Factorio, DOTA 2, Phasmophobia, Valheim on consoles.
And if you're only on Playstation 4/5, you are also missing out games like Monster Hunter Rise, Bravely Default 2, Halo MCC, Forza, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sunset Overdrive etc

Steam OS 3 is more console-like than ever. Steam Deck is a subsidized handheld game console using PC standards. It also runs at least 4 of those games, with another 2 maybe getting ported in the future.

Buying a new piece of hardware (for example, a graphics card) automatically remasters every single game on my PC collection.
That means that *I* determine when I want to play a remaster. I'm not at the mercy of a publisher's release schedule for a "remaster"... And also, I don't need to pay for a new version of the game. The same exact version of the game that I already bought will work even with hardware updates.

I have built gaming PCs for years and never really used them enough as I should have. I have Steam Machines and am not a big fan of old SteamOS BPM. I have thousands of games. I have Steam controllers, PS & Xbox controllers. All kinds of all the retro crap. I have Xbox Ones, a One X, multiple PS1-4's kicking around. I put Sega Genesis model 1, model 2 and a Analogue Mega SG in my setups because I am a mutant that needs to double tap and run through Shinobi 3's first stage twice a day to keep my dick from falling off and running away to find a better home. I have a Super NT hooked up with the pro flash cart so I can punish myself with baby mario crying or close my eyes and swing my sword in Soul Blazer to hear Maggie Simpson. My Sega Saturn is ready to go with satiator and all the stuff I could ever want. I built a MiSTer dedicated to Neo Geo & PC Engine.
I got a Steam Deck... I can't put it down.
Both a PC, and a console. I would easily recommend it, or throw a hot take at the whole thing and claim it to be the greatest game console ever made.

I game in my office at home. Like you, gaming on the 55" TV. I have a monitor for work stuff. My PC sits between my desk and the TV. Have a nice comfy Serta office chair so almost as comfortable as a couch.
I use a laptop stand when I want to play with keyboard and mouse.
Works pretty damn well. When I'm using a controller for PC or console, just wheel the stand out of the way.
Can you tell me please what chair you have? Also what's the connectivity between the PC and the TV? HDMI?

Sure. The chair is a Serta office chair. One of their executive big chairs. Got it at Office Depot. And yes, the PC connects to the TV via HDMI.

- feature set
- capability
- flexibility
- games catalog
Now, there are a lot of subjective factors (cost, personal judgement of "ease of use," preference for certain developers/publishers) that may sway your preference one way or the other, sure. But the fact remains that PC is unmatched in those categories I mentioned.

Man that's creepy. I do play consoles too, but the thought that PC-only players is living in a cave is hilarious especially when you consider the size of the esports and MMO scenes.

PC's adopting the form factor of consoles along with mini PC's will drastically increase the amount of PC gamers. 2023 will be the year of iGPU's (RDNA 3/Arc-Alchemist) finally gaining significant performance increase along with newer CPUs (Raptor Lake\Meteor lake\Zen4). Hopefully with PCIE5, newer NvME SSD's with DirectStorageAPI will have near console like instant loading.

The SFF cases have been around forever, like Steam Machines. The problem is price/performance. We will get all the bells and whistles we want, but they will cost more than a grand and make it a non-starter.
Valve's the one who can turn the key on this. SteamOS 3 has the console UI it needs to put into Big Picture Mode. Valve's the one who could, and should jump into their own Steam Machine market and release a Linux PC console, perhaps with pushing the paradigm to be a new headless rig that serves multiple secondary sessions and wireless displays across your home.

Still using the same bigass ATX case from my first custom PC early 2000's. It's getting kinda beat up but I love the thing. I really like how tech is getting smaller now though, I love the idea of a Steam Deck or really small high perf PC that you can throw in a backpack...though I guess I really should still just get a gaming laptop if I really want that lol.

Depending on what you need a gaming laptop is pretty sweet! I have a beefy gaming PC but end up on my Legion half the time because it's easy to plug into my TV or play on the couch while the wife is watching TV.

Between this and talk of SteamOS updates, I might consider building a gaming PC again. That wouldn't work (seamlessly) with Gamepass though right?
I just always end up wanting to play on the couch with a controller, and when you pair that with a desire to go "bang for buck"…I always gravitate back to consoles.

I've been playing videogames since the PS1 and had all other Sony consoles with the exception of PS5. I also had some Nintendo consoles, my last one was the Wii U (lol).
As an adult with the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the world, I've finally bought my first true gaming laptop because of portability and:
-Most games from PS5 and Xbox are available on PC which gives me the oportunity to play more games from different consoles
-I didn't try the switch emulator yet, but I want to play Bayonetta 3 using it (don't want to buy the console just for 1 or 2 games).
-As an ex-PS fanboy, I'm finally playing some Xbox exclusives (currently playing the Halo games, waiting for that Gears collection as well).
-Piracy.
I'll probably buy a PS5 in a few years for some of the exclusives that might never come to PC.

I know the feeling. When I got into PC gaming over twenty years ago it made me realize how much better gaming was over all. I see why it's truly the Master race.
I remember playing games with 32 vs 32 players back in the late 90's and early 2000's, something console gamers could only dream of.

20 years ago was different. Games are the same everywhere now and I console offers exclusive features that are not on pc and vice versa.
But all in all it's all the same aside from the price.
