Come on, sharing is caring.

I have confirmation he said the exact words from his mouth.

I just can't believe it. It would look so bad to say such a thing in an open forum, would make any professional body question your motives and would sure as shit destroy any future relationship with Sony and ABK. Atleast, until a new CEO is put into put into power. Even then I dunno...

This is getting crazy now.

Messing with phil was one thing, but messing with lulu you gone too far jim!!!!

Wow... this is crazy to have the balls to tell ABK to their face that. Imagine being that cocky.

As I've said before ABK and Sony's relationship will never be the same. Had some people argue me down that business was business. That Sony holds all the cards.

Mark my words Sony will not be getting a new COD marketing deal if the merger is blocked. They will get the barebones version from now on. With exclusive content and better polish on Xbox consoles.

If they REALLY want to fuck with Sony imagine if EVERYONE ELSE (Xbox, PC, Switch) all got this exclusive content BUT Playstation.

If COD is so important imagine the ramifications of that. Just wow.

Seems to be getting a little desperate now
It's not. Fin.
Agreed. The only way Sony should not oppose this ever is with a gun to their head. Which is probably where they will end up (metaphorically).

At some point they will probably have to take as good as they can get.

Looks like good old-fashioned bad faith to me, all the while claiming to CMA that it is Microsoft that has been a bad-faith actor and an obstacle to arriving at a deal? Sounds like Brussels went quite bad for Jim, which was obvious from being in the room, and the UK is about to follow right behind, especially with a remark like that.
You can't even correctly interpret what's been said.

They need to recognise the UK isn't America.

Good luck with that strategy.
MS not knowing about any other country besides America defines not just them but most other American tech companies. Apple is probably the only American tech company which really understands there is a world outside of America.

Yes, it would look bad, but he absolutely said it from his mouth. This isn't a paraphrase, it isn't her trying to be cute. Jim Ryan said those exact words from his mouth, and she isn't the only person with the ability to confirm its accuracy. Other executive-level people at Microsoft and Activision can confirm he said it, and it has been shared with anyone who is relevant to the merger's approval/disapproval.

Jim was upset.

Telling them they won't sign a deal that leads to a merger is playing it straight. There is nothing wrong with honesty. And there is nothing wrong with standing firm if you don't trust the party who wants to make a deal.

And as I've said before, ABK and Sony's relationship will be fine. Anyone at ABK who thinks that it makes sense to retaliate against Sony will be long gone after the deal is terminated. ABK is not going to burn down its own business to get back at its biggest partner for objecting to a merger. Only realistic exception would be doing a day and date COD on GP deal with MS. But that wouldn't be to get back at Sony, and its very unlikely that ABK would even accept a fair market rate. COD is too valuable of an IP to devalue its sale's potential if ABK remains 3rd party.

Can you explain why it's bad that PlayStation's CEO would reaffirm their position that's already been made clear publicly, and in writing through their submissions, from the beginning of this process?

Do you actually think Sony are obliged to want this acquisition to go through and that they have to negotiate for a deal with Microsoft?

It now makes sense. She has a Twitter account that people shit on and so do you, so it's logical to guess you're running her account. It makes sense...unlike your twitter account.

Microsoft have never kept their powder dry so if MS knew that and had evidence, they would have leaked it in February.

Wow if Jim really said this and there are receipts that's a super bad look for Sony.. the whole intent of complaint by Sony is they were scared of losing COD, if he actually said they don't care about COD they just want to fuck with Microsoft then this shit will sail through smoother than people are expecting and it's all Jim's fault.
That's certainly one way to spin it.

Let's assume it's true-Jim is saying that because of the ramifications, SIE have no interest in making a deal and the only positive outcome for them is make efforts to block the merger. Not that COD is somehow irrelevant.

It's not some shocking statement. They've clearly been doing everything possible to prevent the acquisition from going through and those actions have been publicized since last year

You don't know that he actually said that at all. He very well may have, but you don't know if he said it or not and you certainly don't know if he was "upset".

It's been pretty clear for some time she's desperate for the money that will come her way if the deal goes through.
Desperation has been the name of the game since the CMA provisional findings were published tbh.

Also judging by Sage's return, it seems like we have our new Microsoft PR marching orders, yay!

It shows that Sony doesn't give a damn what ABK wants. They won't sabotage the game. They will put extra polish on other versions. Exclusive content on other versions. Basically making COD on Playstation the worst place to play (when it's currently the best place). MS will gladly pay for the marketing rights.

These are all the things Sony is arguing will foreclose competition. Now MS will get to do them for cheaper than $68 Billion.

This will not end well for COD on Playstation. Every person with shares at ABK will be affected if this deal is blocked.

By buying shit you already had and then telling you it's new shit made just for you.

Amazing.
That's how you interpret that?
Like I said, fanboy narratives arnt consistent

It wasn't long ago that people of your ilk were saying that MS wouldn't invest in Xbox. Xbox would have to be able to sustain itself. No way MS would use profits from Office to prop up Xbox. If anything, MS would can Xbox.
In reality MS uses a massive amount of those Office profits to invest in Xbox. First it was Obsidian, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Double Fine, The Initiative, Playground, Compulsion and InXile.
Meh said the fanboys. These are just a group of AA and Indie devs to make Game Pass fodder. MS got them cheap.

Then MS bought Zenimax. That GP fodder narrative wasn't looking to good now.
Anyway, no way MS wont put games like Starfield or TES on PS5. No way they leave that PS money on the table.
When MS crushes that narrative by making them exclusive then all the Zenimax studios are trash anyway. No one was looking forward to Starfield. No doubt it would be a buggy mess. It's just like No Man's Land. Doom hasn't been good for decades, Arkane are stink average, and none of Zenimax games will be any good anyway.

Then lord and saviour Jim Ryan complains about how MS took Starfield away from PS5. Damm, we need to change that narrative of Starfield is meh again.
So out came the Phil is a fucking liar one. He took Starfield away from us. There was a PS5 version of the game and he scrapped it. Phil needs to be sacked.
No way he can be trusted with COD. He will take it away and hurt the PS5 sales.

And now MS has invested close to 80 Billion dollars of that Office profits into gaming, destroying the narrative of MS not really caring about games, the new narrative is that because MS would have already had AB games on Xbox ot doesn't really show they are all in.

Leave him alone. The heroine is kicking in. He needs to medicate.

I think Sony has made it clear that they believe they are going to lose COD regardless of any deal MS offers. And let's not lose sight of the fact that the ONLY person quoting Jim Ryan as saying this works for ABK. It wasn't that long ago that Frank Shaw was tweeting shit he said he *heard* Sony had said in Brussels.
Jim's burning a lot of bridges.

You don't know that he actually said that at all. He very well may have, but you don't know if he said it or not and you certainly don't know if he was "upset".
Let's assume he did say it. What does that change then? I am guessing nothing. Sony has also said to CMA they want this deal blocked back in 2022.

Interesting that Tom Warren is pointing out the fact that these were "closed door meetings" that Lulu is revealing information about.

If he believes ABK games will cease being on PlayStation then that bridge was already burned.
Is it just me or does this sentence make no sense?

the day behind closed doors meetings were held with the EU

He is careful in his wording as he never directly says it was said behind the closed door meetings

To me its worded in a way that it could have been said to just her, off the record, before or even after the meeting

But maybe I am reading too much into it

COD mobile is already huge. Full COD on mobile will be even bigger, like Fortnite and mobile.

You should go see how many people download mobile versions of games like COD and PUBG. They even have massive tournaments.

Just checked app store and damn. Pubg mobile has 500 mil downloads!?

That sure is a lot more than I expected. I have to admit I was wrong on that front.
But my worry would then shift to how many of these players would be interested in playing against console or pc players.
By the looks of if, those mobile games are matched with other mobile players so it's a even playing field. But if they stream normal cod, then they end up in pc and console lobbies. We all know the thoughts of players when it comes to mixed pc and console lobbies. Now imagine you throw in phone users in there too on top.

I don't know if that would be fun for anyone. Maybe they could tackle this with cloud only lobbies but that again sounds like a bad idea.. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this develops if the deal goes through, but it's still interesting to see how even competitive shooters seem to thrive on mobile, which truly was a big surprise for me.

I find the thought of Jim saying this in a one to one conversation with this unhinged whack job in a quiet corridor absolutely hilarious.

And then she waited over two weeks to post it on twitter. It is a bit strange.

Of course he does but I can't imagine him making that statement

I think it is strange that he would say this knowing MS and ABK are engaged in a heavy public relations campaign with the whole thing.
