Microsoft / Activision deal prevented to protect innovation and choice in cloud gaming

The good news is no big acquisition for the time being.

Meaning MS and Sony won't tear apart the industry for consolidation.

That is a win for us gamers
Honestly? I agree with you there.

If you don't create an IP, you don't have the right to take them away, own them and make them 1st party exclusives forever.
This industry doesn't need that.

Sad day for freedom of private people and businesses.

It's a fucking great day for businesses.

Mass consolidation at this scale is good for nobody. The only companies that benefit from this kind of thing are the top 0.001%, every other industry participant gets fucked.

We lost a lot of quality PC studios when EA bought them up. Some of that IP survive as pay to win phone games. It was a sad time.

Cloud gaming is currently a joke, this whole argument is based on an assumption that cloud gaming will not be a joke in 10+ years. CMA have more information about this than anyone.

Time to sell my house and invest in the cloud baby.

This begs the question, which publisher will they go after now?

Surely it's EA or Take 2.
They won't pull this off again. That's the thing. This is setting up a great precedent for the industry. All eyes are on this acquisition.

They will now appeal, they will spend another year on this. Otherwise they will have to pay billions to Activision if they back off now. This will be a mess and draining for all parties involved now, lmao.

Cloud gaming killed the deal? Now we know it's all just bullsh*t to stop the deal.

I mean out of all the things the deal should be stopped for .. cloud gaming was the last lol

Get fucked MS.

Time to make use of Bathesda and all the other studios you bought and stop trying to buy out the entire industry.

Today is a great day and victory for gamers. Consolidation is bad for the industry and today it was stopped.

Life goes on

If you want to spin this politically one say or another help yourself.

Microsoft doesn't know what to do with all the toys they have now. This would be no different. Cultivate and build. They've been at it long enough and always have preferred the brute force method ever since their antitrust case over 20 years ago.

Markets will find the correct equilibrium over time, not some arbitrary government decision.

When you read the ultimate reasons it makes a lot of sense to me from a UK gamers perspective.....I know a lot of you console warriors are annoyed, but at the end of the day you are console warriors which makes you basically retarded anyway.

Wow did not expect that cloud was such a heavyweight! From all i read in the acquisition thread i thought the deal was as good as done.

Good to see the CMA isn't fooled by the 10 year agreements.

We also found limitations in terms of the duration, monitoring, and enforcement of the proposed remedy. The fact that the remedy is only for 10 years represents a clear weakness in terms of its effectiveness as a comprehensive solution to the SLC, which is not itself time limited.

A solution that is time-limited is not a solution.

Microsoft literally signed a deal to bring all of Activision's games to all cloud gaming providers, currently ZERO of them have access to those games.

no, its makes no sense

It should be illegal to block acquisitions based on hypothetical future situations. They assume cloud gaming is going to take off in popularity and they assume that Sony won't have infrastructure to compete with Microsoft by the time that happens. Dumb decision all around.

Really bad news for Xbox. Will only slow sales down more. Not looking good. Good chance people will look back on this as CMA killing the Xbox brand.

I read the statement and it made sense to me......maybe I'm the retarded one then, lol.

Absolutely the right decision. Glad that logic prevailed and prevented this acquisition from happening.
