Damn, gotta admit I didn't expect this outcome. It's wild that Cloud gaming is considered so important to the UK market but I assume it's a fair assessment based on the data available to them.

j/k I hope MS drone strikes Buckingham in retaliation and moves their business to France

Those of you stating they will appeal Don't quite understand the CMA, this has already been back and forth with various arguments, its highly unlikely and there is very little to suggest an appeal will be successful.

Facebook appealed a recent ruling by the CMA on An acquisition and simply walked away.

Buckle up, at least us in the Uk may get non exclusive games from MS.

LMAO at your avatar!

And yes. An appeal would only attempt to determine if the CMA acted irrationally. Which is VERY hard to prove. That would almost certainly extend beyond the July deadline for the deal to close.
This is too big of a news. I had to let go of that Eva Elfie profile photo for a while. 😞

Friendship over with Eva Elfie. Aaron Greenberg is my new best friend.

And yeah, they are only risking increasing their penalty to ABK. This appeal won't do any good.

They're already at max 3B payout.

You wanna know what's kinda ironic here?

The big rhetoric was: "Plastic boxes don't matter, the future is cloud and subscriptions!", and the CMA actually worked along those lines!

10/10 season would watch again!

The more you think about it, the more laughable the decision gets.

The whole cloud gaming (which is already up an running without Activision games) will suddenly depend on those Activision games if the deal goes through?

Who the fuck thinks like that? And Microsoft already signed contracts with most Cloud Gaming providers.

And now you'll get no Activision games on any cloud gaming service because the company don't do that.

It's not over though is it? won't they just appeal it
This is almost guaranteed to fail in appeals. The appeals process for the CMA ultimately kicks it right back to the CMA board to reconduct the review, and thats only if CAT agrees with the folks appealing that the decision was made in bad faith.

It could take another full year for that process to play out just to get rejected yet again in all likelihood. The arguments about preventing a future monopoly in a projected industry is not one you can simply argue against.

Either MS will just buy the seperate IP's with that money, actually start funding their studios more and make some decent games or the Xbox division is now dead

I'm on this list and I will be 100% honest, I didn't vote until after CMA issued their statement saying that console SLC was off the table.

I did not see CLOUD coming and I'm more than happy to admit it. I'm glad this was the final outcome, the one I wanted from the beginning.

Remember kids: You don't want to be Sephiroth. He sucks and he got his ass kicked. You want to be CLOUD.

Yes, new entrants to cloud gaming space need equal access to the third party market which Microsoft is trying to eliminate

Wedbush and Patcher right now must be something.

Study the next 13f's very closely.

It will show us who was pumping via the media and using that as an opportunity to get out at high prices.

Retail always ends up holding the bag ultimately.

I'm not a lawyer by any means but I thought an appeal makes sense in this case. After all the entire reason they're blocking it is due to the cloud gaming "market" that doesn't really exist yet. Definitely we're looking long term but even then it's not like it's set in stone you know so I think there's a case to be made for and against it, if any case has a shot I'd think it be this one. Plus, Facebook is an actual monopoly in its industry idk if anyone was surprised with what happened with giphy.

It's not just Phil Spencer's head on the line here btw, Kotick might get actually fucked over too.

He just pissed off one of their biggest trading partners (Sony), and is now facing the prospect of actually having to stick around and fix the issues that his management created AND have to manage employee expectations of being unionized etc after the deal passes through.

Phil's head is %100 on a platter here, but Kotick is in a dangerous situation here too.

Good thing i didnt vote yet :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Also, Bob already responded

This man is desperate to get out with a golden parachute. Should have just negotiated with his investors when that offer was on the table, would have been far less stressful and drawn out.

I didn't keep up with all the ebbs and flows of this, but I keep going back to Spencer's comments before and after the Bethesda acquisition. I really do think that if MS kept Starfield and Redfall on PS5, this deal would have gone through.

HAHAHHA competition in cloud gaming??? cloud gaming isnt even a profitable industry. i.e. Its a tiny loss making niche that no one cares about.

Sony laughing all the way the bank, protected from competition by the regulator who doesnt even understand the industry, they can keep gobbling up studios and money hatting exclusive content, winning strategy continues winning.

Thanks CMA!!! I will sleep easy tonight know cloud gaming is safe.

Bobby calling Jimbo right now.

"It wasn't you, babe. It was me. It was a one-time mistake. Give me another chance, please."

I said it a while back. Spencer's ass is on the line. Gamepass hasn't moved the needle. Xbox's first party still isn't cutting it. Despite the billions they've poured into the division just to still be last in a number of metrics. He's been in charge for almost a decade. They just lost the single greatest chance they had to suddenly change things.
