What are we supposed to do with this $70 billion?!

face crying GIF

Can they afford to pay their twitter bill now?

Yeah or MS knows we're about to see a switch 2 which could run COD perfectly fine but it isn't their job to announce the console to the world.. *shrug*

That doesn't work. MS said Switch specifically and bragged LOUDLY about the 150 million gamers they were bringing COD to.

I'm assuming the commitment with Nintendo was about new CoD titles. There are games on the Nintendo Switch, Activision could certainly build a shooter on the Switch. Old titles might not work, new titles could obviously be built to specifications that allow them to run (like Fortnite, and other esports titles). The questions about that never really made much sense.

So, if that ends up being the case... A&B does not need MS to release COD on it. A&B has released COD games on Nintendo before.

I was legitimately beginning to believe it was going to go through with major behavioral concessions, but now?
I'll just let the GIF say it all:

I still think MS will not give up. They probably hate Sony now and are blind for pride.

If they do this, they tank their entire brand and piss off their shareholders who are probably feeling like Lando on Bespin when Vader altered the deal.

That would be a monumentally epic waste of money while their studios are -- outside of Bethesda/Zenimax and Turn 10 -- struggling in varying stages of development hell with the various Xbox exclusives that are supposed to be forthcoming.

Damn......that guy said Activision is going along with the appeal but is really just angling to get their $3 billion "break up fee". This shit could be over in July.

Activision is staring at a very rough road if they try to ride it out with Microsoft. They won't be able to make any deals with Sony for the duration of the appeal, and that could be a long time from now. 2024, possibly 2025. In the meantime they'd basically be working with the loser of the group whose platform doesn't sell games. All that just to likely get told no anyways. If Microsoft doesn't walk away now, ABK shareholders will in July.

Activision was having troubles before this and that's why this deal was happening in the first place.
That's not why.

They were not having financial troubles, just work culture shit. Only people in trouble would be select management if there is ever an investigative outcome.

I agree with your points but I also think that unless they're seriously pushed into defensive mode, acquiring a big publisher like SE is just not Sony's modus operandi.
It's clear that Sony wants to buy smaller studios with really promising talents they believe they can turn into the next Naughty Dog, Insomniac or Santa Monica with due time. I expect them to continue to do that. We got an other announcement of this kind a few days ago. Who would be surprised if Deviation Games is next?

About Square Enix I think it's more likely that they end up investing by buying/funding officially certain internal studios, making a long term partnership co-funding certain projects or even buying co-ownership of certain IPs (ex. Final Fantasy would be the most logical target) rather than a full acquisition. This is something that even Square Enix stated they were looking into. In this way they would just bypass all the legal hassle and they would focus the investement where it matters to them.
Agree on all points. I do not think Sony has any reason, as of right now, to move to secure some potential at risk 3rd party revenue streams. I also agree with what you said, that SIE themselves would rather work on their production pipelines and IP than just purchasing a bunch of teams and go through the painstaking process of integrating their workflows into their publishing efforts.

SIE is more than content with continuing license agreements and marketing agreements with their major 3rd party publishing partners. My original post was just to say that, if Sony were to make an aggressive expansion and buy SE, that none of the logic we saw in the regulatory fight with ATVI indicates that they would kill a Sony x Square-Enix deal, purely on the merits of Sony being the current market leader in the console space. MS purchasing anyone is far more complicated because they are far more heavily invested and integrated in technology on a broader level than Sony ever has been.

The only trouble they had was everyone was pushing for Bobby to be removed for allowing sexual harassment & assaults. Xbox threw that cunt a lifeline and now enough time has passed that the heat has cooled.

What's worse is that in the PlayStation Showcase next month. Sony may reveal the next Call of Duty with exclusive PlayStation content. 😂

Here's a sneak peek at our new game coming next year, incidentally around the same time as Call of Duty is normally released, called Duty Calls.

I cannot edit gifs, but the bold guy is Activision:

People thought Sony buying Bungie for 3 billion was too much.

Microsoft just spent the same amount to not buy Activision.
Suddenly looks a hell of a steal

Really seems like $3 billion payout is the best out for ABK shareholders, doesn't it?

At this point you're guaranteed an easy $3 billion and you maintain control. Now they have to patch up relations with Sony. In whom two high level executives tried to embarrass publicly. Gonna want to get on that.

The UK sacrificed their economy to protect cloud gaming. Thanks!
LOL, like MS contribute anything to the UK economy

Don't you know we have a list of "good" countries now?

So you're saying France didn't surrender for once...

I'm kidding! I know you guys fought a 100 year war. Americans can barely pay attention for 2 years. Bravo.

The next fun part will be the ugly break up of the deal. Expect Activision to try and claim their fee, and Microsoft to be none too happy about that. It may even end up in courts with both sides slinging mud at eachother over the deals failure
