It started with the PlayStation 3 and they've had it ever since. You can tell that the system is turning on so I don't see why it's necessary.

It is kinda weird isn't it. Do you think it has to do with the ps home button on all the dual shocks and dual sense?

That button turns the system on and maybe the beep is a warning on cause it gets turned on accidently.

It's for diagnostics, akin to the bios beep of old in PC's.

Don't ask me why they've done it that way instead of a small led light or something.

i wish the biggest issue in my life was a beep a plastic toy made when i want to use it.

When remote playing, I dont want to disturb my SO while she is watching some show in the living room with the loud PS5 PEEP. I do at the end, but its totally 90s tech bs and she always asks me wtf that peep was all about. Just turn the fuck on silently.

I kinda like getting a confirmation that the console has turned on. It bothers be very slightly that there's no such indication from the Switch (except for the LED on the dock). Only very slightly though.

In a age where eletronics break every now and again, that beep serves as a signla that your PS5 is not fucked up. At least not enough that it won't boot.

Its not as bad as my car screaming at me the whole way home when I put something with weight on the passenger seat and don't buckle the seat belt. Even when I take the box or whatever, it's obnoxiously beeps until I get home or stop and turn the car off.

It doesn't bother me but they should use a more elegant chime instead of an AC beep. The Steam Deck has a nice wake up sound for example.

It's useful when you're booting in safe mode, but it would be good if they made the beep optional when booting it with the controller.

I hate that my wife knows when I turn on my PS5. I got the sound disabled on my Series X, but that thing isn't seeing much action these days.

It's not something that ever bothered me.

It will from now on. It's one of those things you never notice until someone else notices it for you. From now on, you won't be able to unhear the beep of doom.

Seriously though, the beep is a bit loud if you have small kids that are asleep. Aside from that I don't find it really disturbing to be honest, but it is pretty loud and probably louder than it has to be which would be 0 sound.

They grow up in protected bubbles nowadays where every less positive word, opinion, event, happening is censored for them, so if real life comes knocking the door in any way they completely panic and stress out. The world has to adjust for each and any one of them, instead of them participating in the real world.

It's a huge problem for many reasons and very bad for their mental health but that's how modern western society works at the moment.
