Well in that case you made it sound like the whole acquisition was a done deal. CMA be damned.

Thanks for sharing.

Will be interesting to see what happens now with the UK being the last man standing and the clock ticking.
Well is going to be interesting to see what the hell de CMA/CAT can do if MS decides to give a big fuck you to them.... fun times ahead thats for sure and not any signs of this whole circus stoping any time soon

Somebody check the timeframe for this type of decisions I think we have a national record ... good for MS that the judge was so kind to be this fast out of the goodness of her heart 🥰
Not a merger but the first one I found was the FTC seeking a preliminary injunction against Intuit about deceptive advertising which they were denied the day after the hearing.

The parties had until yesterday to submit further evidence, how can the verdict be already delivered? Seal or not this would have been leaked in all places. Especially with so many people having ties with Microsoft.

If I had to guess, the parties may have seen unredacted versions of the public findings and conclusions of law filed yesterday, and have decided that the FTC hasn't got a strong enough case in play.

Or it's an echo of a legal opinion of the case as a whole to date.

I'd be surprised if the Judge is prepared to go on record on a Saturday less than 24 hours after final submissions… and we're hearing it now so this rumor took time to get here - that's probably from yesterday.

Phil Spencer has said multiple times that COD would not be taken away from PlayStation. Also said it under oath.
I watched his deposition and Satya all over again this week ... very careful use of words and expressions .. that in no way shape or form bind the conpany to keep cod on playstation forever

As I said before .. after the FTC questioning about ABK games the lawyer asked phil to bind his words to the company.. phil chose to stay silent.

But time will tell..

Well if they make COD exclusive then they will have exposed themselves as the biggest frauds in the history of gaming.

Mainline COD titles to remain multiplat, but maybe any spinoff titles exclusive? Similar to the Minecraft Dungeons situation except they wouldnt have pre-existing perpetual contracts in place for the entire franchise...

Based on HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 's reaction to my post, seems this is about the FTC. I'm guessing the decision has been delivered under seal and he had a conversation with a certain friend of his.

Figure we will know on Monday. Now remember everyone.......we are supposed to be melting down so let's put on a good show.

Lets play a game...give me ONE reason to keep COD multiplat in the next GEN (after the recent contracts ends) if MS and the directors board didn't give a flying fuck about loosing the playstation revenue/sales

I mean they would never commit to keeping it on PlayStation forever, just because Sony have had a stellar run doesn't mean they can't release a clunker of a console for the PS7 or PSX or whatever.

...and I predict, aside from console/brand warring, nobody will care by the time it matters. The masses will either move to a different shooter or different console. We are a fickle bunch.

I agree.. and thats why no kind of long term commitment was made officially

I think that is going to depend on how Playstation revenue continues to perform post acquisition. If it remains very healthy, they will probably keep it. If the series is in a spiral and the revenue no longer really matters then maybe just make it exclusive? I would say "imo" whether COD remains on Playstation for the foreseeable future will probably depend on whether the PS playerbase continues to support it or not.

Man, you just made me realize they can call the PS10 the PSX. Hope I and they live to see it happen.

It was a nice answer.. but ultimately based on revenue ... and all the answers are based on that ... and would be fine... if the company behind this wasnt a trillion dollar company with goals that we know only a little thanks to their emails.

Take immediate playstation revenue of the table and think long term strategy for growth of their exclusive platform and the will to "spend sony out of business" and well
. I made my point

The CoD IP is mainly in the famous for being famous category. It's not just the revenue from playstation its also the players, the social engagement, the streams, the sheer numbers. A couple of best in class CoD games that sell crappy and the IP is practically worthless.

Interesting find but I'm not sure its really comparable. The hearing for Intuit was under 2 hours in court on the 21st April with the verdict given the following day.

This has been a longer hearing with various witnesses and evidence to examine.

I agree... but there are gamers a lot of them that play only COD... imagine a new gen XBOX with one year of gamepass and a exclusive COD at launch ... if you think this dosent have the power to sway millions of COD players... well... I do

And yet Jim mentioned 1m PlayStation 5 owners that have only played CoD on the system. Those players are whales and probably worth $1b per year or more in revenue, and are the anchor for the player base on PlayStation, so have a huge influence effect too.

So yeah, as a big attack on the natural gaming landscape the market has chosen, as an industry we very much will care if we start eating far worse and the market crashes because the wider public don't game as much on buying new consoles because the show piece games to define generations gets even smaller because of adverse risk funding - beyond the diminishing returns issue already manifesting from hardware/production and sequels that reduce risks.

Don't worry, MS and Sony will strike a deal next gen, GamePass one year included for both new Xbox and PS consoles :P

No company would ever legally sign up for keeping their products available "forever"…

Products have finite lifecycles…

I have been clear day one that I believe this merger is bad for the industry as a whole. We also have no idea when/where MS will stop after this. They are clearly being given the green light to buy the market. However, when it comes to COD being pulled from PlayStation, I do not think anyone will care by the time it happens.

But was DirecTV's stock the same? ABK's stock has gotten better, I don't see them wanting to sell.

Yes this is an important point - DirecTV stock was fairly stagnant so the feeling was shareholder's wanted to push on. Ultimately that acquisition worked out quite badly for AT&T anyway.

ATVI - well I guess no one has taken a poll but to me it feels like ATVI would be worth significantly more as an acquisition target today vs 18 months ago… I'm sure shareholders would care about that, but they did agree to sell at the price offered so for now they're along for the ride.
