Anyone knows how many years this agreement is about? Probably 10 years like other companies after marketing deal ends right? So until end of ps6 gen.

He should be crying though, maybe he is just hiding his tears

I guess it makes sense for Sony to do this deal now. The only regulator referencing PlayStation as a reason for the deal not to be allowed was FTC and they lost. So Sony has no reason not to make a deal at this point. CMA isn't concerned with consoles at all.

I wouldn't be surprised at all that finalizing an agreement with Sony was part of the final overall agreement(s) with CMA once this is all finalized. It'll be interesting to see what else has been agreed to with the CMA....

The CMA dropped the console SLC so personally I don't think they'd care one way or another about Sony. Well, I do t think they'd care enough to stipulate it as part of their remedies.

I didn't expect Sony to sign, I don't understand the reasons for doing so now

The reason is simple:

1. The regulators failed to do their job to stop this acquisition from happening, and that's now known

2. Signing an agreement makes it legally binding so Sony knows what the future will be and can plan accordingly

The deal is very likely going through unless Activision or the CMA do the unthinkable, so it makes sense to sign at this stage. Didn't make a lick of sense to sign when the outcome wasn't known

Regardless, I think it's highly unlikely Microsoft will ever remove Call of Duty from PlayStation anytime in the near future.

I would imagine it's the same deal they were offered before. Like I said, Satya himself said in court they would keep COD multiplatform, why posters on here thought they would shaft PS after that is mind boggling. I'd love to see Microsoft bring more Bethesda titles to PS as well, hopefully they do.

Basically. I also suspect Sony got the best deal they could get given the circumstances. Now is not the time for MS to play hardball. They made statements in court and to the regulators that they weren't taking it away from PlayStation and Jim got it in writing. I imagine this will help if Xbox decides to change their mind in the future.

If the CMA are saying August but everyone is happy, are we signing off?

How does Sony circumvent the cloud/divestiture issue?

I'm sure it'll be worked out from here.

BTW Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping I've had a vasectomy, so I can't get you pregnant.

You have to read a bit between the lines here - In general, Corporations wouldn't post something of this magnitude publicly if it wasn't already fully vetted, finalized, and approved by all interested parties, including the regulators..

While it hasn't been published (yet) - there's most likely some sort of agreement already in progress and being finalized between CMA and MS...

Otherwise - if there was still any possibility of a block by CMA here - Sony wouldn't have signed....

This just show how weak Sony position is right now. They will have cod, but will lose all blizzard future games, tony hawk, crash(their mascott on 90s).

Sony knows MS will not stop there. Even with this deal if they want stay relevant in 10 years they need to pack up billions to buy studios and even a publisher(small one like capcom and square). 16 studios will not be enough with aaa taking 5-6 years to develop.

Tony Hawk series is dead and crash hasn't been relevant in 20 years.

You are outright wrong. Xbox not competing is not solved by punishing other gamers.
Xbox not competing is the fault of Xbox being a badly run company, and usually that kind of company dies and get replaced by BETTER competition. You make it sound like competition is about everyone getting first place which is the opposite of competition. There is no competition if the losing side was not allowed to FAIL.

Xbox is still around as a zombie business because of external money, thus stopping better competition from showing up. You are not fooling anyone.

Actively hoping for Xbox to fail in the hopes that another console maker shows up is quite laughable. Even you know that's extremely unlikely.

Thats a lot of monthly salaries, plus the cost of studios/equipment etc, plus the 68 bn of course..
I wonder when, or even if, MS will get their money back

Aside from the fact that Activision was already a very profitable business with that headcount and those expenses, that's not how these things work. What does 'get their money back' mean?

xbros how we celebrating tonight? If it's official tomorrow we"ll be lit taking a whole week celebration bender.

Also anyone wanna collab on a card we can send to Phil thanking him from neogaf?
