we are 39 hours away from the deadline

Realistically the deadline is probably moot now. ABK and MS have some latitude in deal to make an extension without shareholder approval and with the CMA offering some assurances regarding this new proposal it would be strange for the deal to break up now. I assume MS will push hard to get the agreement with the CMA completed before the start of the FTC proceedings as that increases the difficulty ten fold there, though they don't seem worried about the US at this point.

The satisfaction that you voted for the biggest acquisition in gaming history.

The classic it's not "corruption", it just depends on who is involved in said corruption. When it's people we like we call it "the real world" but when it's not, what do we call it? Ah yes, that's right:

Look at fifa qatar or qatar buying Man U and PSG. Same with Saudia arabia buying new castle united.

The reality is that Companies like MS will always avoid punishment. To them, fines are like giving a homeless man 1$. Its why they keep breaking the law. Nothing stops them.

It's a bit weird how divesting COD/ABK cloud market rights in the UK would work. A new entity whose sole reason to exist is to make money off it or another company who buys it from MS? And then what, you still need a consumer who buys the game from a supported platform for licensing purposes. What about microtransactions?

It sounds awfully similar to what the EC asked for, but more complicated, and the EC still hasn't disclosed how they are going to make it work either.
Yeah if it's just divesting cloud only and MS having ownership of the IPs for them to licence ABK games I'm really not sure what's achieved. I suspect legally it's trying to remove the vertical part of the merger concern when it comes to cloud by saying we're not a cloud provider anymore, we're a publisher who isn't leading, but how they got rid of the MGS concern the CMA had before too is a mystery.

At any rate it does seem like 2000 pages is out of reach now.

Unless the CMA or MS suddenly decides they don't want to offer/accept whatever it is that they've said they would offer/accept. In which case all involved in this process look all the more ridiculous. I'll look at it from the prospective that both the CMA and MS will follow through on what they've discussed and that it is really a formality at this point.

@ T Three I think divesting from cloud gaming would change the picture there quite a bit. You would go from MS having exclusive access or at the very least being the gate keeper for ABK games in the cloud to them not being a player and all cloud providers having the option to compete for the rights (the same way it is now).

Would this shock anyone at this point, with the way this thing has went?

But that's all ok. It's "how the world works" or some such euphemism people come up with to justify corruption for the sake of mega-rich corporations.
Its too easy to just cry corruption when something happens you don't like.

There's no proof money or personal favors exchanged hands so why pursue that angle

Congratulations to the XboxGaf. I'm glad ye still have ABK games on the console. It's awful for gamers as a whole but that's a fight for another day and I couldn't be arsed discussing it now.

You don't need any of this when it comes to political pressure. That much has been proven, even MS themselves went scorched earth with Brad Smith's tantrum and idle threats.

Deal closes first week of Aug? and then this

Of course, we're not done yet. Not even close. In August, Xbox will be headed to gamescom in Germany, the world's largest gaming event – and we'll be setting up our biggest ever booth to show off the incredible games we have coming to you. We'll have more news in the next few weeks about our presence at the show – stay tuned!

Confident MS is confident

Brad Smith had a tantrum? I missed this. Mind posting it?

Wooooow...I get his arguments but calling for the government to look into the regulator. I also think cloud was kind of weak. I thought the gov't looked at the CMA all on their own, out of their own concern. Had no idea it was prompted by Brad Smith.

Is it really so hard to accept that the CMA just had the wrong opinion?

Almost every regulatory board on Earth agreed it should pass.

The ones that didn't had huge hurdles in proving their point.

It's not hard to believe that politicians stepped in and said, "you guys have this wrong, fix it"

Or even just stepped in and said "this isn't the hill to die on, so fix it"

Every single major regulator had issues with the cloud. Even Canada, NZ, and Australia. They had data provided to MS's end game, only one accepted their typical "fine them later" remedy (EC), even though they agreed with the CMA's concerns.

Is it really so hard to accept that the CMA just had the wrong opinion?
See above.

So small market right. 1% or whatever. That's why I think blocking due to Cloud was weak.

However, there is the behavior that I think was more damning. It's the picking and choosing who to do deals with. Leaving out Luna, leaving out Google.

If they were sincere about the Cloud part not looking anticompetitive they would have done more than Boosteroid and GeForce.

If you want to say a politician stepped in and influenced what was supposed to be a supposedly independent government regulatory body then you are making my point for me. Fact is that if this wasn't Microsoft and some small company facing the exact same situation then whatever politician you are making excuses for would not have even bothered. So yeah, very hard to accept any of these naive arguments. What you are basically saying is that politicians rightfully subverted the CMA.......and somehow for the sake of "it's the right thing to do".

I find that laughable.
