At least we've determined that if any game is ever exclusive to a Sony console, you are never allowed to dislike that game while also liking any other game in that genre. JRPG (XVI vs Persona), 3rd person cinematic action games for sure (Sony 1st party vs Jedi Survivor). This probably includes other genres too, to be added at any point in later conversation. To be on the safe side, just don't dislike anything exclusive on PS, unless you are prepared to forfeit the entire genre. Your reputation is at stake. Hopefully this addresses everyone's concerns.

I haven't played any of those. I seriously thought about starting up P5, but heard it's pretty massive to do everything and some stuff is easily missable if you don't follow a guide.
Currently really enjoying Exoprimal and looking forward to Lies of P as I liked the demo.
Edit: And Halo Infinite. Which has shadow dropped some good maps recently.

It's sold 9 million copies. Gamepass goes on top of that, so almost certainly well over 10 million have played it.

Persona 5 completion rate is 42% on PlayStation.

But I think that's enough about Persona, if you prefer FF16 then that's perfectly OK as well.

What's with the weird formality 😄. I just don't agree with what you say the cause is. The hate and reasons to hate a game often come from exclusivity and sour grapes from either side.

I've seen people shit on some exclusive for being walking sims, too many cutscenes, third person cinematic or whatever, yet turn around and praise games that do the exact same as long as they are not exclusives to the other side. Games like Plagues Tale, Persona 5 (only now), the Dark anthology, or Jedi: Survivor. Then they spiral into these comparisons of titles people associate more closely with their brand which are just hidden console wars.

Back in 2016 when FF15 and Persona 5 released within 1 month of eachother nobody was trying to force comparisons of Persona 5 and FF15 to say FF15 is shit compared to Persona 5 due to cutscenes yet here we are 7 years later with Persona 5 and FF16, go figure. People often look for baseless reasons to hate a game due to the exclusivity too, is all I'm saying.

My motto is just let people like what they like. It's an infinite hole of paranoid suspicion to criticize people for liking Plague Tale and hating The Last of Us, or whatever comparison people keep inventing. I have varied opinions on even the same IP, let alone completely different games in the same genre. You have to prove someone's a liar about what they like, which isn't really even possible and for what? To argue that they should like something they didn't like? It's just silly and I've seen it happen repeatedly and not just in this thread. I don't usually bother to even argue against it anymore, but figured I'd try and just summarize what the actual premise of the argument boils down to and just stating it plainly, because when people actually think about it - it's pretty absurd.

People are allowed to like what they like. It's just when they make up a reason why they don't like said game when trying to explain why they don't like it. Like saying I dont like all these specific games because I'm tired of third person cinematic games then turning around and praising another game that's exactly that, like say Jedi: Survivor. I just give people the benefit of the doubt. They may not know the precise reason they didn't like a game. They may think "cinematic" in their head and not really articulate what they're referring to well. Maybe it's actually something less obvious like pacing, or atmosphere. Jedi Survivor is a different game than even Fallen Order, and the differences can be analyzed and may not even be fully understood by the people who played them. Same goes for Breath of the Wild vs. Tears of the Kingdom. Some people like one and not the other. They may even think they hate open world games, and then find one that grabs their attention.

Who cares?

If some of you here really want to retroactively worship a former PS exclusive which became an Xbox late release and Gamepass added title years later, then you ought to check out Grim Fandango Remastered. It's considered one of the greatest games of the now-dead point and click adventure genre.

It was originally released in 1998 for PC and Mac by what was then LucasArts, putting it roughly in the same generation of gaming as Diablo II. Many years later, Sony funded a remaster of the game for creator Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions that was released in 2015 as a PS console exclusive. (It was also re-released on PC in 2015, and then ported to Switch in 2018.) In 2019, Microsoft acquired Double Fine and in 2020 an Xbox version was released.

So this is basically the entire thread in a nutshell. Classic game is released decades ago, Sony funds a remaster of a classic game and it's PS console exclusive, Microsoft acquires the entire studio and then ports it to Xbox. So go enjoy Grim Fandango Remastered, you fucking green douchebags! It's a classic game which got a 22 years later Xbox port because MS bought the entire studio! And it's actually a real classic and frequently appears in Best Games of All Time listings!

This isn't giving someone the benefit of the doubt though. This is just saying someone doesn't know how to get their points across properly. Since this is about Matty it's pretty much saying he's not good at his job. I'm not going to say that about Matty because I've heard enough of his videos to see that he does know how to get his points across properly.

As for him looking like a hypocrite considering the state of gaming and all the console war stuff I think the most obvious answer is the best one here. At the end of the day though it's all just speculation and we would have to ask the man himself to really know.

I wonder who owns the old Sierra catalog today now that you mention it. I think you can pick up a lot of old Sierra titles on GOG, I saw the Phantasmagoria and Gabriel Knight games available to buy there.

These days Disney holds the rights to a lot of the old LucasArts titles since they own Lucasfilm, I know Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis has been available on Steam for quite a long time now for people who want to experience what I still believe to be the only truly good original Indiana Jones game ever made. It fell to Core Design to create Tomb Raider to make a true Indiana Jones video game, and then Naughty Dog many years later with Uncharted to make an Indiana Jones game for the modern age.

Benefit of the doubt is great and it's often what I do if it's somebody I don't know well enough. Other times it becomes more apparent what the hidden motive is due to their material or exaggerated preferences but I'm just giving examples as to how some people's hate for games can be baseless and purely hidden console wars too especially if they are unexplained. it often is with many people, that exists and is quite prevalent. As an example I wouldn't give any reviewers at Stevivior or ColtEastwood that luxury.

Yup. No doubt if the game was day 1 GamePass exclusive they'd be singing the high praises. The fact that it's PS5 exclusive only is another mark against it. The guy listed lots of complaints that are WORSE in games like Persona...which is why I brought it up to begin with

I actually don't mind Matty at all, compared to CoaltShillwood he's an absolute saint, but his bias still comes through when he makes claims like all Sony exclusives are the same and aren't for him and he wants them to go back making "unique" games like they "used to"
