PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th

Insane profits but an increase will "enable us" to bring you the same shit. The choice of words in these press statements always kills me. Think about how absurd phrasing it like that is.

Just be like yo we want more money because there is nothing you can do. I know I'll keep spreading my butthole anyway just to play online.

I mean I'm clearly joking and aping Jim Ryan's "virtuous cycle" talk.

But it does suck - however I don't think it's insane to go from $5/mo to about $6.50/mo in an era of hyper-inflation which, while mostly ending now, was very painful to many companies and consumers. That said, I'll stick with PS+ Essential, as I increasingly prefer to buy games (and it's likely cheaper in the long-run).
 
dam that sucks, still better then gamepass, which is a joke. Hopefully they improve the game selection add more value like adding movies and tv shows. I'm good for next 2 years anyways.

Essential increased by £10 a year, Extra £16 a year and Premium £20 a year.


Game Pass increased by £12 a year and Game Pass Ultimate £24 a year.


So what are you getting at?
 
79 dollars to play online on something that should be free, just because there are some games nobody asked for

I subbed to premium when the new changes came but when it runs out in a couple of months i will either drop to extra (since premium was a failure in my eyes at least) if i find a deal otherwise back to essentials.
 
This is for people who criticized the Game Pass prince increase,

All companies will follow suit, the same will happen with Netflix closing home sharing
 
Looks like a $20USD increase on the Essential and $35USD for Extra.

As someone said, their offerings better be good in exchange for these increases.
 
My switch to PC becomes more justified every second. PS Plus essential is highway robbery. For that price I can get PC Game Pass and NSO 1 year, with lots of games to play, both old and new. Essential just gives you a couple of "free games", online play (which I rarely play) and cloud saves. I really dislike this new "premium" stance that Sony is adopting when you barely get anything in return.
 
I'm not going to renew my premium in december. This is too pricey. I'm settling for essential.
The swedish krona (SEK) have tanked so it's even more expensive...

Yeah I'm moving over to Xbox, will keep the PS5 for the exclusives and single player games I already pre-ordered, but fuck me what an awful move.
 
At least do it in a month where you're giving away a decent game for free.

Don't justify it as necessary to maintain quality when your monthly game is Saints Row.

I went all in with Premium upgrading for a whole year on the premise of the "classics catalogue". Couldn't wait for the PlayStation and PS2 classics.

Yeah, what a fucken waste. I used live chat to get it all refunded after a few months. So disappointing. Haven't subbed since.
 
Great, first bring the Saint Row as a Ps Plus title and then there's such a big price increase on top of that. I hadn't used the service very much since the Ps Plus renovation but I think I'll use it even less now.
 
The sheer amount of effort Sony is doing to lose their fanbase is unbelievable...are they serious?

I have bought one year of PS Plus Extra for 75 euros...and there's no way I'm going to pay that amount (125 euros) to play for a subscription where games don't even arrive day one like gamepass, and I only pay for gamepass ultimate sporadically for games I want to try on my Series X.
 
Btw, can I just play online and you keep your fucking monthly games Sony ? Is that too much to ask ? They need to create another cheap tier with online gaming only. (They won't..)
 
Didn't they rise the prices like 1 year ago ? 150€ per year for premium in insane. I paid 99 for a year and I already felt it was way too much. Sad because I love retro gaming and even if there's not a lot of choice I like it. :(

This the way I'm looking at it too. I've got another year of plus extra under my belt, and will continue to use ps+ for the generation but I think I'm going to switch to pc next Gen more and more with announcements like this. Extra for me has been pretty good, I will admit, but it's like 115 right now and this will put it up around $150. Over a 6 year system, that's $900, or the cost of a pretty good gpu.

Definitely going to need to think about it more
 
Should come as no surprise, Jim is about that bottom line. Think mine is up in December and looks like i wont be renewing. I always stacked about 2 years during black friday in the U.S., but they got rid of that two. Ive probably played....3 PS plus games of the last 5 years. Mainly have it for only play, but rarely play online games anymore either.

Honestly hope shit starts to tank at Sony. They seems to slowing be going back to their overpriced arrogant selves.

Cant think of all of the shitty things this gen, but to name a few

- Ending sales of PSN cards at retailers
- PS Plus price increases
-Not allowing redownload of some PS1 classics tou bought on PS3
- $550 wired VR,
-PS5 price increase in some countries
-$70 games (though half look and play like PS4 games)
- 3+ years of cross gen games
- Digital Code collectors editions (not sure if started this gen)
-PS Portal
- Even slower 1st party releases (outside of Insomniac).
-Trickling of news and shitty showcases
-GAAS focus

...im sure there are more shitty things
