I hope it ain't true because they would literally take their community for granted. The first remaster was unnecessary enough, the second one would be a bad joke. I kind of wouldn't be surprise at this point. What's next Sony? God of War 2018 remaster?! Spider man 1 and Miles Morales compiled ultimate edition?

I wonder who's at fault for ND not delivering anything substantial for that many years this time. Will it be Jim Ryan, Bungie, Iron Galaxy, other Sony execs, HBO... It's never ND's fault, right?

Horizon Zero Dawn is rumored to be getting remastered too. It's the sign of a company that is creatively bankrupt, but I don't think Sony is creatively bankrupt. I really don't know why they are doing this.
 
Why not a demaster? No really. Hear me out.

The hordes of Druck stans have already played it on their ps4s. And the ps5 is backwards compatible. So this is redundant.

But there's untapped potential. Release it for the millions of ps3 users who enjoyed Last of Us 1 and still haven't upgraded. Heck you can use an Uncharted heavy npc model for Abby. Just change the face.

Can they just give me the first half and sell it to me half price. Full cutscene removal option too. I'm there for the gameplay and visuals only..
 
Should be offered for no more than $30 for those who already own the PS4 version of the game, especially seeing as to how the game is only 3 years old. Knowing Sony though, this will be $70.

Again, that would be so disappointing, Guerrilla is better than this?!

A Killzone remaster collection now, including all of its multiplayer content would be amazing and worthwhile.

Not fair to say they are creatively bankrupt just because they are doing some remasters and remakes.

We already know they are working on Tsushima 2, a new Horizon SP and GaaS game, a new TLOU, a new GoW, Spiderman with claws etc...

No remasters there, all new, how is that creatively bankrupt?

Watching current AAA devs trying to keep huge IP's of the past made by talented devs afloat is both hilarious and sad. It's all they have.

No one should be surprised by this. This is exactly what some of you have been asking for since the PS5 was announced plus with Sony's PC initiative this is a no brainer.

Remember, money has an opportunity cost. If you are spending tens or hundreds of millions of dollars and lots of time on remaking something you already did, that is also NOT investing in something new. Investing major resources into remaking a game that is literally a few years old is a signal that you don't have any new ideas.

A "compiled Ultimate Edition" was already released. If you bought Spider-Man Miles Morales, then you could buy Spider-Man Remastered for $10.

This remaster wouldn't be required to finance their next project since it's already been in development for years.
 
It makes sense to have a native PC/PS5 version going forward...

It also feels like ND/Sony are bilking the shit out of their fans and it feels scummy.

Still probably best not to make too big of an assumption based on anything though. Pricing/upgrade(s) that are fair could totally be on the table..

Some here get into the habit of reading before sounding off. The images indicate the remaster is outsourced.

Still though, I think this is a waste of time. Sales on this will be quite low. As good as the gameplay is, I really have no desire to struggle through that story again.
 
This is most likely a small team on the side doing the remaster and then handing it off to Nixxes to do the PC port. The bulk of the team should be working on the new IP.

Developers remaster\remasters games for various reasons.

Spider-Man 1 was remastered when Spider-Man Miles Morales was in development. We also know that Insomanic had Ratchet and Clank, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine on the horizon.

Alan Wake Remaster was designed to get people familiar with the series because it was released more than 10 years ago on the Xbox 360. They were not "creatively bankrupt" because Alan Wake 2 ended up being announced shortly after.

Capcom remade Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 while developing Resident Evil 7 and 8 with Resident Evil 9 on the way. These games are a full remake that's cost for more development time than a game with just minor visual upgrades.

Remasters are just a smart business move. The cost is low and you can generate more profit for a previously released game. Naughty Dog did this with Last of Us Remaster (granted, no BC for PS4).
 
Remasters don't take up a great deal of resources.

IMO every significant AAA title should have 4K/60/RT (if applicable) remasters to take full advantage of PS5 & PS6.

Given the choice I would never watch a 1080p movie , let alone lower quality, if 4k HDR is available.

Patched last-gen games are not enough for me anymore. If I want to go back and play should a title it needs to be a remaster or full remake.
 
I haven't played this yet but is this really needed? My understanding is the ps4 version looks fantastic and already has a ps5 patch frame rate, or am incorrect and confusing it with another game?
 
I've been playing a little of this on my PS5 and I honestly can't see how they can make it look any better.
At least not better enough to charge another $70 like they did LOU Part 1.

What about Bend Studio? Released their most recent game like over a year before Naughty Dog...where's their next game at?
Media Molecule released their latest game like 6 months before TLOU2. Where's their next game at?

Maybe all studios sony has that haven't released games in over 3 years are closed then?

Sounds like this is something "personal" against Naughty Dog and less about the time you're waiting for their next game. We already know factions 2 was ready to be announced. It was supposed to be this year. They made the game while also working on TLOU1 Remake, TLOU2 Remaster, the PC version of TLOU1 Remake and a new IP that has been in pre-production for a while. All this while the studio was going through one of their biggest re-structuring ever.

If anything this is a publisher problem. If Sony thought one of their top studios was making a GaaS title that wouldn't be monetized the way they wanted and they actually thought it would be better for them to cancel years and years of development instead of releasing it even if it's not their ideal model...it's not the studio's problem. It's the publisher that allowed this to go on for this long. None of this speaks about the title's quality in any way or the studio's ability to do their job. Also, Sony's obsession with this new model means their biggest studios that spent decades releasing better and better single player experiences would need to completely change the way they plan their games. This was always boud to happen. Most GaaS titles don't end up working in the end.

I completed TLOU on PS3, currently playing it on PC and its so good.

I did have a PS4 when TLOU2 came out, however i knew i wanted to wait for the PC release.

It's situational to some extent, but if anything this post just convinces me more strongly as to the creative bankruptcy of the entire industry and the lowered expectations from fans.
 
Maybe this makes fans of TLOU2 happy, but this seems like such a waste. Can we get something new?? This seems like busy work.

Makes sense. If they were updating only the PC version, then people would complain about there not being a PS5 version.
 
TLOU 2 remastered will be my next Platinum, I might upgrade my headset for the more immersive experience.

Great news because its one of the best games ever. I hope they update the graphics a lot because they already released 60fps PS5 patch to the original.

They've been working on multiple games for 3 years now so what you're saying doesn't make any sense.

They have 300-400 people at the studio and you're acting like the majority are remastering the game. Lol
 
It's one of my favorite games ever but it already looks and plays great on the PS5. The only it is missing is haptics and they can patch that in.

No reason to not have a remake/remaster available while they are cooking something new. Considering the fact that the most ambitious games often take the most time, it's odd to me that people (in general, not you specifically) want cutting-edge, innovative gameplay, but are not willing to grant developers the time needed to create a masterpiece. The time gap between Uncharted 4 and TLOU2, ND's most ambitious games during PS4 era, was 4 years. Throw in additional buffer for pandemic related development snafus and we really shouldn't be panicking or complaining until end of 2024 at the earliest.

Not really seeing this as a waste since they are outsourcing the remaster which means ND will continue working on........whatever they are working on.

These 4k remasters are going to be on PSN for the next 10-20 years.

Sony are futureproofing key titles much like movie studios do 4k/8k remasters of classic movies.

There will be a proportion of hardcore fans who will purchase the title day one. But that isn't the reason they're being made, it's a longer-term project. Gamers like to talk about preservation and retro gaming, but outside of the 16-bit pixel art era, most game age terribly. To bring anything PS3 or earlier upto current standards is a huge task. Remastering PS4 titles is a relatively simple task as assets are available (likely downgraded to run on PS4) and console architectures are the same. It's a no brainer business move and something gamers will be grateful for years down the line.

they tried to pawn off TLOU1 because they were focusing on Factions. Then they had to take it in-house and devote resources to it. Well, now Factions is in the trash bin and supposedly they are pawning off TLOU2, I have a feeling what will happen there. Based on all known information, I see reasons to be pessimistic.

TLOU remaster for PS4 made sense since there was no backward compatibility with PS3 games and they would be stupid to give up those sales but you can play all PS4 games on PS5 and it looks better than some native PS5 games. What is the point of backward compatibility if they just release PS5 versions of everything?
